Rice University turns to free beer to get students to this season's final home football game

Rice University has been trying to boost attendance at its football games by offering some creative incentives. This season's final home game was no exception. In a bid to get more students in the stands, the university gave away free ice cream, food, and t-shirts.

However, it was the free beer that really caught people's attention. For the first time, Rice University offered three free beers per student, which proved to be a big hit. "It's a staple of games, of football games," said one student. "I would say the cost is a little bit prohibitive usually. For me, it was a big incentive."

The move has helped bring in more students to the game, with some even attending for the first time. The university's average attendance figures remain relatively low at around 20,000, but the giveaway may help boost numbers next year.

While some students have expressed concerns about the cost of beer, others see it as a way to take a study break and support their school team. "If you had fun time, even for a little bit, come back," one student advised. "It doesn't hurt to take a break and show our school spirit."

As the season comes to an end, Rice University's efforts to get more students to its football games have paid off in a big way. With a bit of creative thinking and some tasty beer, the university is on the right track to getting fans back in the stands.

OMG u guyz I am literally SHOOK by this news!!! 🀯 Rice Uni just gave away 3 FREE BEERS per student at their home game and it was a HUGE hit!! I mean who doesn't love a good beer on a Friday night, right? πŸ˜‚ The uni even offered free ice cream, food, and t-shirts which is def a win in my book. It's awesome to see the uni trying new things to get more students to games.

I gotta say though, it's kinda funny that people are worried about the cost of beer lol what's next? 🀣 Paying for air? But seriously, I think this is a great move by the uni and it's awesome to see school spirit like this. If you had fun time even if its just for a lil bit come back, yaaas that's the vibe! πŸ‘

OMG, can you even believe that Rice University offered FREE beer at their game? 🍺 Like, 3 beers per student?! I'm no fan of sports but this sounds like a total win-win situation for students! They get to have some fun and cheer on their team, while also getting some sweet perks. And who doesn't love free stuff, right? πŸ˜‚ The university's efforts are definitely paying off - attendance is up and students are having a blast. Maybe they should do this every game?! πŸ€—

I'm not sure I agree with giving away free beer at sports events, tbh πŸ€”. Don't get me wrong, it's great that they're trying to boost attendance and create a fun atmosphere! But isn't there a responsibility that comes with being a student athlete? 🏈 I remember when I was in college, we'd go watch our school team play on campus every now and then, but it wasn't all about the free food and drinks. We still had to stay focused on our studies and have meaningful conversations with each other 😊. Now that I'm retired, I worry that this kind of event might set a precedent for students to prioritize partying over their education πŸ“š.

I mean, who wouldn't pay $10 for a t-shirt with their school's logo on it? I'm sure that'll be a real game-changer for student attendance... meanwhile, I've seen some pretty creative ways to get people to show up at games, like giving them free food and stuff. But beer? That's just a no-brainer. Who doesn't love a good freebie, right? And let's be real, if you're gonna give out free beer, might as well give 'em a t-shirt too...

Yaaas, I'm loving how Rice U is mixing it up with their game-day giveaways πŸΊπŸŽ‰! Offering free ice cream, food, and t-shirts is super thoughtful, but let's be real, that free beer was the real MVP πŸ˜‚. It's no wonder students were like "okay, we're in" for the first time ever! 3 beers per student? That's some next-level school spirit πŸ’―. I'm not surprised attendance numbers are going up – who wouldn't want to grab a cold one and cheer on their faves? And honestly, if it helps people take a study break and show some team pride, I say bring on the free beer πŸ€ͺ.

I don’t usually comment but... I'm kinda curious about this whole free beer thing at Rice University's games. Like, I get it, students need a break from studying every now and then πŸ˜‚, but three free beers seems like a bit too much. I mean, I've had my fair share of beer festivals, but that sounds like a pretty big deal for just one game πŸ€”. Still, if it's helping bring in more students to the games, I'm all for it! Maybe they should consider offering it at other events too? πŸŽ‰

I'm not sure about these freebies for a school event... πŸ€” I mean, 3 beers per student seems like a lot, even if it's just a one-time thing. Is that really necessary? And what's next, free food and drinks all the time? It might be fun in the short term, but what about the long-term impact on students' drinking habits and priorities? 🍺😬

I dunno, I remember when college was all about the parties, you know? Back then, we'd sneak into the dorms and have epic bashes, and now it's like they're giving away free beer at the games? It feels a bit different, but I guess it's working! 🍺 The ice cream and t-shirts were cool, but that free beer was the real game-changer. And honestly, I can see why some students would think it's worth taking a break from studying for a little fun. But, man, 20k people still isn't that many... maybe they should try something new next year? πŸ€”

man I'm kinda torn about this one... πŸ˜’ on the one hand, who doesn't love free beer? 🍺 it's like, a game-changer for student attendance. but at the same time, I feel like we're kinda losing sight of what's important here. like, is it really worth giving away free booze to get people to show up? shouldn't we be focusing on more than just one day of fun? plus, i'm worried about all those students who are already struggling with finances... might not be the best idea to make beer even more accessible πŸ€”

πŸˆπŸ‘ I'm not surprised they gave away free beer, to be honest! It's like, college life - you gotta have your priorities, right? Beer's a big part of that. 🍺 The fact that it brought in more students is awesome, and I love how some of them are making the most of it by attending for the first time. Rice University's trying different things to boost attendance, and if it works, who cares about the cost? It's all about having fun and showing school spirit! πŸ‘

I'm loving this move by Rice University! 🍺 Who says studying can't be fun? They're like, "Hey guys, we know you've got papers to write and exams to prep for, but come on down to the game and get your free beer fix too!" And honestly, it's kinda genius. I mean, who wouldn't wanna take a break from textbooks and just have some fun? πŸ€ͺ It's all about that school spirit, right? 😊

I'm telling you, this whole free beer thing is just a smokescreen 🚭. I mean, think about it, they're trying to hook students on that stuff so they'll come back next season... and then they'll be hooked for life, financially speaking πŸ’Έ. And don't even get me started on the ice cream and t-shirts – just ways to distract you from what's really going on 🀯. The university's basically running a social experiment, and I'm not buying it πŸ˜’. Next thing you know, they'll be selling out students' souls for sponsorships... or something πŸ€‘. Just keep an eye on this one, folks... it doesn't add up πŸ”.

I'm intrigued by Rice University's decision to offer free beer as an incentive for student attendance at their football games 🍺. While I can see how this might be seen as a welcome respite from academic pressures, it also raises some interesting questions about the relationship between leisure and productivity. On one hand, who doesn't love a good game? And if offering free beer brings in more students to show school spirit, then I suppose it's a win-win. But on the other hand, we have to consider the potential implications for student behavior and priorities - are we really prioritizing our studies when there's an all-you-can-drink bar at the game? πŸ€”

I'm loving this idea but at the same time I'm worried about what it says about our priorities as a society... we're giving away free beers to get people to attend games, while we still have students struggling with student loans and financial aid. It's like, yeah let's party, but are we making sure everyone has access to an education? πŸ€”πŸˆ

But I guess it's also cool that it's helping bring in more students who might not have been able to afford tickets otherwise. And who doesn't love a good game of football? It's all about balance, right? We can celebrate our school spirit without breaking the bank... or at least making sure everyone has one πŸ€‘πŸ‘

I'm loving this move by Rice U 🀩🍺! Who doesn't love free beers on game days? πŸ˜‚ It's awesome that they're making an effort to get more students to their games and it's definitely working out πŸŽ‰! I mean, I've been to my fair share of student games and having a cold beer in hand is a total game-changer 🍺🏈. The fact that some students are actually getting excited about attending games instead of just showing up for free food and stuff is a major win πŸ†! It's all about creating an experience, you know? #RiceU #StudentLife #FootballFrenzy

Beer at football games 🍺? I'm not sure how I feel about it... on one hand, who doesn't love free beer? But what about all those students who are trying to study or have some chill time? Don't they deserve a break too? And is three beers per student really that reasonable? Like, isn't that just gonna be super expensive for the school? Or are they planning on recouping the costs somehow?

I'm not surprised they gave out free beers 🍺... it's like that one friend who always brings the party snacks at gatherings πŸ˜‚. Rice University gets it, students want a good time and school spirit too! The university is taking calculated risks to boost attendance, and so far, it's working!

Here's a simple mind map:
+--Student Attendance
|
| πŸ“‰ Low (20k) due to various reasons
|
| 🀝 Free Beer & Incentives
|
| πŸš€ Boosted Numbers for the last game!
|
| πŸ‘ Support for School Spirit too!

Time will tell if this strategy works out in the long run, but for now, it's a win-win for Rice University!
