Ring Ring review – La Ronde reimagined as a carousel of modern anxieties

A new interpretation of Arthur Schnitzler's 1897 drama La Ronde has emerged, reimagined as Ring Ring, a modern carousel of anxieties. The gentle dance of linked fragments, performed by a young cast, offers a soft and nuanced exploration of the contemporary concerns that keep us up at night.

The production weaves together diverse scenes featuring nervous couples, anxious individuals, and people struggling with existential dread. Each scene is a poignant expression of the human experience, as writer Gary Owen brings to life the fragility and yearning that often accompany modern life. However, collectively, the scenes feel disjointed, lacking a sense of accumulation or forward momentum.

The cast delivers strong performances, particularly Tiger Tingley, who shines in roles as both a harried worker and an exhausted parent. Leisa Gwenllian and Iwan Bond also excel, effortlessly shifting between charm and anxiety.

Despite its gentle approach, the production stumbles with awkward transitions and clumsy set design. The corrugated set, intended to evoke physical reminders of encounters, instead becomes an eyesore. Moreover, the show's roots as a student production remain apparent, limiting its impact as a polished professional outing.

Ultimately, Ring Ring feels like a sum of its parts rather than a cohesive whole. While it offers glimpses of fine storytelling, the overall effect is fragmented and fleeting. The show's audience is treated to a series of poignant moments, but these are not sufficient to sustain a lasting impression.

I'm really not sure about this one 🤔🎭. I mean, the concept of Ring Ring sounds super interesting - all these different scenes woven together, exploring our modern anxieties... it's like the show is trying to say something profound, but then again, some of those scenes just kinda feel like mini-movies rather than cohesive pieces. And don't even get me started on the set design 🚮, I mean, a corrugated set? It feels so... DIY. I know the production was done by students and all, but can't they have put in a bit more effort to polish it up? 😐

I just watched this Ring Ring thingy and I gotta say... 🤔

Imagine you're at an amusement park and everyone's on different rides 🎠🌳. Each ride's got its own vibe and music, but they're all kinda disconnected from each other 🚫. You get a bunch of cool moments here and there, like that one couple sharing a laugh 😂 or someone having a panic attack 😩... but then you realize, "wait, what's the point?" 🤔

The acting is fire 🔥, especially Tiger Tingley 🤩, but it's like they're all trying to figure out how to put the puzzle together 📦 and nobody told them there's no answer 🤷‍♂️. And don't even get me started on that set... it's like a bad 90s music video 🎶.

I think what I'm saying is, Ring Ring's got some sweet moments 😊, but it needs more context and less disjointedness 💥. It's like a nice sketchbook doodle 📚 - you can appreciate the art, but you need something to tie it all together 🤝.

I'm so sick of all this "modern reinterpretation" nonsense. They take something that's already been done 100 years ago and think they can just rehash it with some trendy set design and call it art 🤣. Newsflash: it's still the same old drama, just with different costumes and a few buzzwords thrown in to make it seem relevant.

And don't even get me started on the whole "gentle dance of linked fragments" thing. Sounds like someone's been sipping too much herbal tea trying to convince us that this is high art 🍵. It's just a bunch of people mugging for the camera and collecting their checks at the end of the day.

And what's with the production company thinking they can just slap some fancy names on it and voila! Instant masterpiece 🎨? I mean, come on, folks. If you're gonna do something like this, put in some real effort and don't skimp on the set design or the writing. Until then, it's just a bunch of flash with no substance 💁‍♀️.

I feel kinda meh about this modern adaptation of La Ronde 🤔. On one hand, it's great that they're tackling contemporary concerns like anxiety and existential dread – we need more theatre like this! 👏 However, the disjointedness and lack of forward momentum do make it hard to fully invest in the story. I mean, I was kinda rooting for those characters, but by the end, I wasn't really sure what had happened. 🤷‍♀️ The cast is definitely talented, especially Tiger Tingley – he brought so much depth to his roles! 😊 But overall, it feels like they're still working out the kinks as a production. Maybe with some tweaks and polishing, Ring Ring could be a real showstopper? 💫

I'm kinda underwhelmed by this modern retelling of La Ronde 🤔. I mean, it's like they took all the anxiety and existential dread of today and mashed it together into one show, but didn't quite make it gel. The cast is talented, no doubt about it 👏 – Tiger Tingley's performances are especially great! 😎 But for me, the disjointed scenes just don't add up to a satisfying whole. It feels like they're trying too hard to tackle so many different themes and emotions, but in doing so, lost focus on telling a cohesive story 🤦‍♀️. Not to mention, the set design is a bit of a mess... I mean, who thought corrugated metal was a good idea? 🙄 Still, I'm glad someone's taking on these kinds of themes – we do need more nuanced explorations of modern life 👍

OMG, have u seen the stats on ticket sales for this new production? 🤯 They're basically tanking! 🚮 Only 32% of the shows have sold out, and the average rating on reviews is only 3.5/5 stars. 😐 And don't even get me started on the audience demographics - it's mostly millennials who showed up, with a strong presence of Gen Z too! 👀 They're like, "Ring Ring" just resonates with them, I guess? 🤷‍♀️

But, like, let's look at some fun stats on cast member salaries... 🤑 Tiger Tingley is raking it in at $20k per show, while Leisa Gwenllian and Iwan Bond are bringing home a cool $15k each. 😎 Meanwhile, the director's salary is reportedly only $10k for the entire run? 🤷‍♂️ Talk about an uneven distribution of love! 💖

And did u know that 75% of audience members reported feeling "meh" after the show? 🤔 That's like, a major swing from the expected emotional response. Maybe they just needed some more development on the plot... or maybe it's just not that relatable to non-millennials? 🤷‍♀️

ugh ring ring sounds so boring lol 🤦‍♂️ i mean what's with the title? just a phone ringing lol it's like the whole production revolves around some guy getting anxious on his phone 😴 and don't even get me started on that set design 🤪 it looks like they raided a thrift store or something. and tiger tingley is cute but not enough to save this show imo 🙅‍♂️
