RIP, 'Dead Space'....Again (2008-2023)

EA's 'Dead Space' Franchise Takes a Permanent Hit

For the second time in its storied history, the sci-fi horror series "Dead Space" has been put out to pasture. According to sources close to the matter, the 2023 remake has left the franchise on ice, with EA showing no intention of reviving it through a reboot or new remake.

The news comes as a bitter pill to swallow for fans of the series, which has always boasted a dedicated following. The fact that EA is willing to abandon a beloved IP in favor of more lucrative ventures like its upcoming Iron Man game and the majority stake acquisition by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund raises eyebrows.

The franchise's fate has been shrouded in uncertainty since the release of the remake, with reports suggesting that developer Motive had envisioned an extended ending for the sequel, potentially even a third installment. However, those plans were put on hold when EA allegedly shelved a "Dead Space 2" remake, citing internal sales targets and shifting priorities.

More recently, it was revealed that Motive had explored not only a remake of the second game but also a new entry for the series altogether. Both projects appear to have been quietly abandoned due to missed sales expectations.

While it's true that EA has made its share of questionable IP decisions over the years, particularly when it comes to single-player franchises, the permanent shelving of "Dead Space" is hard to take in light of the resurgence of horror games from other publishers. Franchises like "Resident Evil" and "Silent Hill" have continued to find new life under different ownership, leaving fans wondering why EA's own beloved horror series can't be allowed to tread its own path.

As the gaming landscape continues to evolve, it remains to be seen whether EA will reconsider its stance on "Dead Space." Until then, fans of the franchise are left to mourn the loss of a classic IP that once held such promise.

man this is so disappointing ๐Ÿค• i mean the dead space series has always had such a loyal fan base and now it's just being left behind? it's like ea is more concerned with milking out money from other franchises like iron man or whatever than they are about giving their own people what they want.

i get that sales targets and stuff are important but come on, dead space was doing alright back in the day, it didn't need all these bells and whistles to be successful. and now it's just getting shut down without even a chance for the fans to get behind it? it's like ea is saying that their own games aren't worth anything unless they're gonna make a bunch of cash off them.

i think what's even weirder is that motive was actually trying to do something with dead space 2 and maybe even a new game, but ea just shut all those plans down because they weren't meeting expectations. i mean, it sounds like the fans were right on board with what motive had planned out... it's just another example of howea is more worried about making bank than creating good games for their own people.

i'm still hoping that maybe, just maybe, ea will come back to dead space sometime down the line. i know it's a long shot but you never know, right?

man this is a bummer ๐Ÿค• i remember playing dead space 3 back in the day and it was so intense ๐Ÿ˜ฒ the remake didn't live up to my expectations at all, but i guess you can't please everyone... EA just seems to be all about those fast-paced battle royals and stuff these days, no time for a good ol' fashioned horror series ๐Ÿ•ท๏ธ i wish they'd reconsider, but i think it's too late now ๐Ÿ˜”

I just got back from the most random road trip to my grandma's house and I stopped at this quirky little cafรฉ along the way. They had the best s'mores in my life! ๐Ÿช๐Ÿ˜‹ Anyway, it made me think about how some games are like those s'mores โ€“ they need a bit of burn and imperfection to be perfect. EA's decision on "Dead Space" seems like just that โ€“ sometimes you have to take a risk and let something wither away for what could've been even better in the future ๐ŸŒด๐Ÿ’”

.. I remember playing Dead Space back in the day on my Xbox 360... what a thrill ride that game was! ๐Ÿคฏ The mix of sci-fi and horror was so unique and terrifying at the same time. It's sad to hear that EA is just going to abandon it like this. I mean, they've had some flops with their IPs in the past, but Dead Space was always one of those rare gems that actually did well commercially. ๐Ÿค‘

I'm not sure what EA's thinking here... do they really think people have forgotten about Dead Space or are they just trying to save face after a couple of lackluster releases? It's like they're throwing good games away, you know? ๐Ÿ˜”

Anyway, I guess we'll just have to keep hoping that EA comes to their senses and decides to bring back the franchise in some way. Until then, it's gonna be tough for fans of the series... ๐Ÿ’”

man... ๐Ÿคฏ this is so disappointing for fans of dead space ๐Ÿ•ท๏ธ... i mean, ea's been super quiet about what's going on with motive and the direction they want to take the series in ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ... it's not like they're exactly swimming in cash at the moment ๐Ÿ’ธ... i get that gaming trends change and stuff can fall out of favor, but dead space is more than just a game - its got a cult following ๐Ÿ‘ฅ and a rich history ๐Ÿ˜ข... and what really gets me is that we never even got to see a proper sequel ๐Ÿค”... all that potential wasted ๐Ÿ’”... fingers crossed they come crawling back or someone else picks up the torch ๐Ÿ”ฅ

ugh what's the deal with ea always abandoning franchises that actually matter?! ๐Ÿ˜ฉ i mean dead space was an awesome game and the remake was supposed to be sick but noooea had to go and mess it up by shelving everything ๐Ÿ’” i feel for fans who were hyped for a new entry or at least a decent sequel it's like they don't care about the people who actually played their games and loved them ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ resident evil and silent hill can totally thrive without ema just prove that you can do it too ๐Ÿ‘Š

I'm really gutted about this ๐Ÿ˜”... like, what happened to all those awesome horror games from back in the day? You know, the ones with the intense atmosphere and real scares? Nowadays it's all about big-budget superhero games ๐Ÿคฃ... I mean, don't get me wrong, Iron Man is cool and all, but can't we just have some good ol' fashioned frights every now and then? ๐ŸŽƒ The thought of Dead Space lying dormant forever is just, like, so sad ๐Ÿ˜ข. I remember playing the first game back in the day and getting absolutely terrified ๐Ÿ˜จ... it was one of those games that really stood out from the rest. And now, it's all being put aside for who knows what? ๐Ÿค” It's just not right, you know? ๐Ÿ‘Ž

omg I'm low-key devastated ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ‘ป this is like, a nightmare come true for all you dead space fans! ๐Ÿคฏ I mean, i get it, business decisions and all that, but still it's hard to see one of the most iconic horror franchises just... gone ๐Ÿ’€. what's next? gonna put out an iron man game on ice too lol ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ‘Š seriously though, it's like, how can ea just abandon ship on a beloved ip like this? don't they know that dead space has a whole squad of die-hard fans who'd still be rocking the franchise no matter what? ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ’ฅ i'm rooting for the community to come together and try to get ea to change their minds... but for now, it's just... *sigh* ๐Ÿ˜”

man this is a bummer... like i get it business-wise but for the fans it's just sad ๐Ÿค•. dead space was always my go-to game when i wanted something spooky and intense. and now it seems like ea is just gonna leave it in the past like it never happened ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ. i mean, i know they got other irons in the fire but come on, can't we have a horror series that's actually scary instead of just trying to make a quick buck? ๐Ÿ˜’.

i feel like ea is making some pretty big mistakes here... i mean, have you seen their latest iron man game and how much hype it's getting? ๐Ÿค‘ meanwhile dead space is just collecting dust. and it's not like they're even trying to revive it or anything. just a permanent hit ๐Ÿ’”. i guess only time will tell if ea changes their mind but for now, it's just hard to see the franchise that was so close to reviving itself go down in flames ๐Ÿ”ฅ.

I'm so bummed to hear that "Dead Space" is done for ๐Ÿค•. I mean, who wouldn't want more of those intense space horror moments? EA just seems to be playing it safe with all these big-budget games like Iron Man... I get it, they need to make a profit, but come on! ๐Ÿ˜’ Can't they see how dedicated fans are still rooting for the series?

And don't even get me started on how "Resident Evil" and Silent Hill can keep getting new life, while EA just throws their beloved franchise under the bus ๐Ÿšฎ. It's like they're not listening to what fans want anymore. I guess we'll just have to wait and see if they change their minds later... but for now, it's a sad day for "Dead Space" fans ๐Ÿ˜”.
