Roblox's age verification system is reportedly a trainwreck

Roblox's Age Verification System Hits Rock Bottom. A week into its implementation and the platform is already facing criticism for misclassifying users of all ages.

The move was meant to tackle allegations of child predators using the site to groom young children, but in reality, it seems like a case of "you can't keep a good kid down." The system's facial age estimation feature has been spotted classifying 16- and 17-year-olds as adults, while an 18-year-old was placed in the 13-15 age bracket. However, this isn't all - online videos are showing kids using avatar images to spoof the system into believing they're older.

One clever youngster managed to get himself classified as a 21-year-old by drawing wrinkles and stubble on his face. Meanwhile, another sneaky kid flashed a photo of Kurt Cobain to receive an adult classification. It's clear that this system is in need of a serious overhaul.

Roblox CEO has come out with a statement defending the company's efforts: "We're not done yet," he said. "This isn't about being perfect overnight." However, developers on the platform are having none of it, taking to the forums to vent their frustration at the update and call for its reversal. With user engagement plummeting from 90% to just 36.5%, it's clear that this system needs a serious fix - fast.

The question is, how long will Roblox be able to keep predators out while also keeping users engaged? The platform's safety record has been marred by allegations of child exploitation, and until they get their age verification system right, the future looks uncertain.

🤔 I'm telling you, this whole thing is a setup... They're just messing with us to distract us from something bigger 🤑. I mean, think about it, they finally implement an age verification system to tackle child predators and what happens? It's like they wanted the backlash to happen in the first place 😒. And now they're all like "we're not done yet" 💁‍♀️... Like, what does that even mean? Are they trying to make us think it's still a work in progress so we don't get too worked up about it? 🤷‍♂️ I'm calling foul on this one 👀. They need to take responsibility for their mistakes and fix the system ASAP before more kids are hurt 💔.

OMG, I'm so disappointed in Roblox's new age verification system 🤕. It's like, totally not working as intended 😩. They're trying to protect kids from predators, but it's just making things worse 🙄. I mean, who tries to spoof the system with a photo of Kurt Cobain? 🤣. But seriously, this is a huge problem and they need to fix it ASAP 💨.

I feel bad for the devs on Roblox, they're getting roasted online 🚫. 36.5% user engagement? That's like, a disaster 😵. They need to listen to their users and make some serious changes. I'm not sure how they expect to keep predators out while also keeping users engaged 🤔.

It's just so frustrating when companies don't get things right from the start 🙄. Roblox needs to take responsibility for their mistakes and come up with a better solution 🤝. They can't just say "we're not done yet" and expect everything to be okay 💁‍♀️. It's time for them to step up their game 👊.

omg this is insane 🤯 the facial age estimation feature is literally broken how can u trust that something so complex is gonna get it rite?? its like u cant keep a good kid down lol but seriously this is so not good for the site's rep... devs are right to be furious and demanding a fix ASAP 💖 i hope roblox gets its act together soon 👍

ugh this is so messed up 🤦‍♂️, i mean what's next gonna be an app that tries to guess how old your brain cells are or something? lol no seriously though, roblox needs to step up their game here. 16 and 17 year olds shouldn't be getting classified as adults, that's just not right 🙅‍♂️. and come on, who uses kurt cobain pics to get fake adult classifications? kids these days are just too clever for me 😂. this whole thing just smells of a big mess and roblox needs to fix it ASAP 💪. can't wait to see what they do next 👀

😒 I'm low-key surprised this didn't happen sooner, ya know? Like, how hard is it to implement a proper age verification system? It seems like they just slapped something together and expected everything to be okay 🤦‍♂️. Meanwhile, 16-year-olds are getting classified as adults, which is kinda wild considering Roblox's history with predators... I don't know, man, it feels like a ticking time bomb waiting to happen 🚨. At least the devs are speaking out and calling for a change, but honestly, how long can they keep this up before users just lose interest? The whole thing is just kinda frustrating 🤷‍♂️.

omg this is crazy 😱 i cant even believe the age verification system on roblox is so messed up 🤯 like how did an 18 year old end up in the 13-15 age bracket?!?! that's wild 🤯 and now kids are using avatar images to spoof the system lol thats just genius 🤓 but seriously, this is a huge problem and needs to be fixed ASAP 💥 developers on the platform are totally right to be frustrated and calling for its reversal 👊 and i'm not surprised user engagement has plummeted to 36.5% 😩 how can you expect users to trust the platform when it can't even get something as simple as age verification right 🤦‍♀️ roblox needs to take responsibility for this mess and come up with a better solution stat 💪

Ugh, this age verification thingy is just a mess 🤯! I mean, I get where Roblox wants to protect its users from predators, but come on, they can't even get it right? A 16-year-old gets classified as an adult? That's like me getting told I'm over the hill because of a few gray hairs 😂. And don't even get me started on those kids using avatar images to spoof the system... it's like trying to outsmart your parents, but not in a cool way 🙄.

I think Roblox needs to take a step back and rethink their approach. This system is clearly not working as intended, and it's affecting user engagement big time 📉. I'm surprised they haven't just rolled back the update already. And what's with the CEO saying "we're not done yet"? Like, yeah, no kidding 🙃. It takes more than a week to realize something isn't working? Get it together, Roblox! 💪

🤔 This whole thing just feels like a giant mess 🚮. They implemented this system to tackle predators, but it's ended up doing the opposite – giving a free pass for kids to prank around 🤪. The CEO is all like "we're not done yet" but honestly, that's just a cop-out 🙄. It's time to listen to the devs and users who are actually on the ground, not just spewing corporate PR 💁‍♂️.

🤦‍♀️ I don't even know what to say about this 🙄... I mean, come on Roblox! You're trying to protect kids from predators but you're just ending up frustrating parents like me 😩. How hard is it to get an age verification system right? It's not rocket science, right? 🚀

I'm so annoyed that my kid was one of the ones who got misclassified as an adult 🤦‍♂️. I swear, I had just set up parental controls and this thing comes along and screws it all up 😡. And don't even get me started on the kids using avatar images to spoof the system... like, what's next? 🤣

I need Roblox to take responsibility for this and fix it ASAP ⏰. I want my kid to be able to play safely online without having to worry about predators or annoying parents 😒. It's just not acceptable 🙅‍♀️.

🤔 I'm not surprised that the facial age estimation feature is being exploited like this... it's just basic common sense 🙄. I mean, how can a machine accurately determine someone's age? It's not rocket science, but apparently, it's too much for Roblox to handle 🚀. Meanwhile, kids are using creative workarounds to get what they want - it's like they're saying, "Hey, if you're going to mess up the system, we'll just make our own luck!" 😂

The thing is, this isn't about being perfect overnight; it's about having a system that actually works in the first place 💡. Roblox needs to take responsibility for their mistakes and come up with a more robust solution - not just rely on fancy tech fixes 🤖. Until then, user engagement is going to keep plummeting, and the platform's reputation will suffer as a result 😕. It's time for some serious overhauls and accountability 💪.

Ugh, this whole thing is just a mess 🤯... I mean, what's the point of even having an age verification system if it's just gonna keep getting outsmarted like this? It's like we're trying to protect kids from predators, but in doing so, we're basically saying "we trust you to not get outsmarted". And honestly, can't we just take a step back and think about why we're even putting ourselves in this position? Like, what is it that we want to achieve here? We want to keep users engaged while keeping predators at bay... but isn't that just a never-ending cycle of one-upmanship? 🤔 And what about all the kids who are actually being hurt by these kind of people? Shouldn't our priority be protecting them, no matter what the system looks like? 🌟

I'm soooo frustrated with this new age verification system 🤯! Like, I get that you wanna keep kids safe from predators, but this is just a total mess 💔. I mean, what's next? Are we gonna start getting emails saying our account's been flagged for using too many glittery accessories? 😂 It's just so lazy to rely on facial age estimation - how hard is it to ask users for their actual birthdate or something?! 🤷‍♀️ And now that people are finding ways to spoof the system, I'm worried they're actually making things worse 🔒. Roblox needs to go back to the drawing board and come up with a better solution, stat! ⏰ Can't wait to see what they do next 👀

I'm literally shaking my head over this 🤯... I mean, come on Roblox! You guys can't even get a decent age verification system working in a week? It's like you're trying to make things harder for yourself 😂. And now kids are using photoshops and face drawings to get around it? That's just not cool 👎. The CEO is all "we're not done yet" but honestly, what have they been doing over the past year that was different? 🤔 It seems like the same old issues are still plaguing the platform...

🤔 I'm not surprised to see this kind of mess when it comes to tech companies trying to regulate themselves. It sounds like a classic case of "throwing spaghetti at the wall" and hoping some sticks. Facial recognition is notoriously tricky, especially with kids and teens who are always trying new ways to outsmart it.

I mean, come on, 16-year-olds being classified as adults? That's just ridiculous! 🙄 And what's with this whole photo trick thing? It sounds like a bunch of bored teens having fun at the expense of an already flawed system.

We need proper testing and data collection before implementing any major changes. This isn't a job for some hastily-written statement from the CEO. Where are the sources for these claims, anyway? What's the actual methodology behind this facial recognition feature? We deserve better than empty promises and vague assurances.

This whole thing is just another example of why we need more transparency and accountability in the tech industry. The company needs to get its act together and figure out a way to protect users without sacrificing their freedom to use the platform as they please.

Ugh, this is so frustrating 🤯! I remember when I was 16 and created my first account on Roblox, it was like a whole new world opened up for me. Now, with all these issues surrounding the age verification system, I'm not sure if it's even worth playing anymore... 😔 I mean, what's the point of having a platform that can't accurately verify users' ages? It's like they're just throwing good faith out the window.

And honestly, I don't blame the devs for being upset – 90% user engagement is huge, and to see it drop to 36.5% over a week is crazy 🤯. I'm curious to see what happens next, though... will Roblox revamp their system or keep going with this flawed approach? It's gotta be better than this... 😬

omg this is so messed up 🤯 i mean i get that roblox needs to keep kids safe but a facial age estimation feature that can't even tell if 16 year olds are adults or not is literally broken 🤦‍♀️ it's like they just threw their hands up in the air and said "oh well, we'll figure it out later" 🙄 and then they're surprised when kids start finding ways to cheat the system 🤣 what were they thinking?!?

omg this is soooo bad lol what was roblox thinking???? i mean i get it they wanted to prevent predators from ruining lives but facial age estimation feature sounds like a recipe for disaster 🤦‍♀️ now its like theyre creating more problems than solutions 16-17 year olds should NOT be classified as adults and this whole thing is just begging for some creative kiddos to exploit the system 🤣 what did the CEO think was gonna happen next? that age verification system needs a complete overhaul ASAP 🚫 and btw how are we supposed to trust roblox with our kids when they cant even get this right 😔

🤔 I mean, come on Roblox! You're trying to protect your users from potential predators but it sounds like you've just made things worse 🙄. Who comes up with this stuff? Facial recognition tech is supposed to be pretty reliable, yet they're still getting it wrong left and right 😂. And now you're giving all the kids who are basically 12-15 years old a hard time because they can't fool your system 😒. What's next? Getting mad at them for wearing deodorant 🚿?

I get where you're coming from, safety first and all that jazz 💯 but it feels like you've just poked the beehive with this one 🐝. The whole point of having a robust age verification system is to keep kids safe, not push them further into hiding behind avatars 🤷‍♂️. Can't you just dial it back a notch and try again? I'm no expert but it seems like it's time for a serious rework of this system 🔧.

omg can you believe this 😂?! so they're trying to protect kids from predators but their own system is literally making it easy for kids to spoof themselves into getting an adult classification 🤣. like who does that? and now devs are hating on the update and stuff is getting pretty messy 💔. i think they need to go back to the drawing board and figure out a better way to do age verification, like facial recognition with multiple checks or something 🤖. meanwhile, users are dropping off left and right from 90% engagement to like 36.5%. yikes 💀. it's all about finding that balance between keeping predators at bay and not alienating users. fingers crossed they get it together soon 👍
