Sam Altman wants a refund for his $50,000 Tesla Roadster deposit

Tesla CEO Sam Altman is not the only one who's had a taste of disappointment with his company's electric hypercar. The entrepreneur, known for his involvement in organizations such as Y Combinator and OpenAI, initially made a $45,000 deposit on a 2023 Tesla Roadster back in 2018. At that time, Musk declared the car's second iteration would boast an impressive array of features, including a suction fan and "cold gas thrusters." However, the project has been stuck in limbo ever since.

Fast forward to last month, when Altman took to social media to express his frustration over being unable to secure a refund for his non-existent Roadster. After emailing Tesla's customer service department, he was met with an unexpected response: the email address associated with preorders had been deleted. This meant that any subsequent communication would be futile.

It appears that Altman is not alone in his experience. Other individuals who have made deposits on the same vehicle have also expressed their discontent. The situation raises questions about Tesla's commitment to fulfilling its promises and whether customers are truly valued by the company. With Musk's priorities often shifting between multiple ventures, it remains unclear when or if production of the Roadster will actually begin.

As some online forums and social media threads attest, navigating this complex issue can be an arduous process for those seeking a refund. For instance, one individual even reported having to make a phone call to obtain most of their $50,000 back from Tesla. It is clear that patience has worn thin with many would-be buyers who had initially invested substantial sums in the promised vehicle.

Ultimately, Altman's ordeal serves as a stark reminder of the challenges involved when investing in unproven technologies or ventures with uncertain timelines.

I feel so bad for guys like Sam Altman who put down $45k for that Tesla Roadster thinking it'd be all cool and futuristic 🤖💨... but it seems like those promises are still just empty words 🗣️. I mean, how's a guy supposed to trust a company when they can't even deliver on something as simple as a car refund? 🚗😩 It's not just about the money, it's about feeling like you're being treated with respect and honesty by a business you've put your faith in. And let's be real, Elon's always got multiple irons in the fire, so it's hard to know what's really gonna happen next 🔥🕰️. It's just frustrating for people who have lost thousands of dollars waiting for something that might never materialize... 😞

I remember when I heard about this 2023 Tesla Roadster thingy back in 2018 🤦‍♂️, I thought it was gonna be a game-changer! But now that Sam Altman is having issues getting his refund, I'm like "what's going on over there?" 🤔 It's not just Altman though, other people who preordered the thing are also frustrated. I mean, I've seen those online forums where people are talking about how hard it is to get any kind of help from Tesla...it's crazy 😩.

I'm not surprised that Elon Musk's priorities keep shifting and stuff 🤯. He's got a lot on his plate with SpaceX and all the other things he's working on. But at the end of the day, customers deserve some respect, you know? 💼 I don't think it's too much to ask for a refund when you've already paid $45k for something that might not even exist 🤑.

I was thinking about how this whole thing is like one big cycle...we start with excitement and hype, then things get delayed or cancelled, and eventually we're left feeling frustrated and disappointed 🔄. And now we're seeing the effects of that frustration on people's wallets 💸. Maybe we'll see some changes at Tesla in the future? 🤞

omg have you guys ever tried to get a refund from a company that completely bailed on your pre-order? i had this experience with a gaming headset like 3 years ago and it was SO frustrating! they just disappeared and i ended up having to sell my old console to pay for the thing. anyway, back to tesla... yeah its pretty wild that sam altman got caught in the same trap as everyone else. i mean, i love elon musk and all but sometimes his tweets are more hype than reality 🤣. anyone remember when he said we'd have flying cars by now? lol

Ugh I feel bad for Sam Altman 🤕. Who wouldn't want a sick electric hypercar like that? And to think he put down 45k 💸 back in 2018... it's just crazy how things have stalled 🚫. It's like, yeah sure Elon promised it'd be awesome but when are we gonna see some real progress? 🤔 I'm not surprised other people are having the same issues either 😒. It's just frustrating for those who invested their money and are still waiting to get something back 💸. Maybe Tesla should just come clean about what's going on and give refunds already 👋.

I mean think about it... people invest their hard-earned money in something that promises to change the game, but what happens when that promise turns out to be just a pipe dream? 🤔 It's like, we put our trust in these companies and entrepreneurs, and they let us down. And it's not just about Tesla, it's a broader commentary on the way we approach innovation and risk-taking.

I'm reminded of the old saying "pride comes before a fall"... or in this case, a broken promise 🚗💔. It's a tough pill to swallow when you've invested so much time and money into something that never materializes. And it raises questions about accountability and transparency in the tech industry.

But here's the thing... we can't just sit back and wait for someone else to fix this problem. We need to hold these companies accountable for their actions, and demand better from them. 💪 It's time for some tough love, I think 😒
