Scottish football: Celtic celebrate O'Neill's homecoming with 4-0 Falkirk rout

Celtic manager Martin O'Neill marked his return to the helm with a resounding 4-0 thrashing of Falkirk at Parkhead, silencing some of the critics who had questioned his credentials in the wake of Brendan Rodgers' shocking resignation. The veteran Irishman's half-time team talk appeared to have galvanized his team, as Celtic scored three goals in the second half through Johnny Kenny and Sebastian Tounekti to seal a convincing victory.

The result was all the more impressive given that O'Neill had only been installed as interim manager just hours earlier, alongside former teammate Shaun Maloney. Yet despite their lack of experience in this role, the duo seemed to have instilled a sense of confidence in their players, and it showed on the pitch.

Celtic moved six points behind Premiership leaders Hearts after drawing with St Mirren 2-2 at Paisley, but remain five ahead of Rangers who edged a narrow 1-0 win over Hibernian at Easter Road. The Hoops will be looking to build on this momentum in their Scottish League Cup semi-final against Rangers next Sunday.

Hearts' manager Derek McInnes was left to ponder what might have been after his side dropped points for the second time in the league, while St Mirren's three-match losing streak ended with a 2-2 draw. Meanwhile, new Rangers manager Danny Rรถhl is enjoying a perfect start to life at Ibrox, having won back-to-back league games and moved the team up to third place.

The results also brought some welcome news for Aberdeen fans, who saw their side move up to 10th with a 1-0 win over Kilmarnock. The victory was a much-needed confidence boost for Jimmy Thelin, who scored his first goal in red since September and gave the visitors a vital clean sheet.

Finally, Motherwell ensured they will head into their semi-final against St Mirren in high spirits after a convincing 2-0 win over Dundee United at Fir Park. Tawanda Maswanhise and Elliot Watt were the goalscorers for the hosts, who earned a deserved win to lift their spirits ahead of their League Cup tie.

O'Neill's back & Celtic are firing ๐Ÿ”ฅ! Didn't see that 4-0 coming, but Maloney's experience is helping out big time ๐Ÿ‘. Hearts need a shake-up after another dropped points ๐Ÿค”. Meanwhile, Rangers are on fire ๐Ÿ”ซ and Aberdeen finally get the win they needed โšฝ๏ธ. Looking forward to Sunday's semis already ๐ŸŽ‰

I'm glad Celtic finally got a result under O'Neill's management ๐Ÿ™Œ, but I'm still not convinced about the interim setup ๐Ÿค”. It's always going to be tricky when you're trying to get a team back on track in just hours. That being said, the players did seem to rally behind him at Parkhead and it was impressive to see that happen ๐Ÿ’ช. The fact that Hearts dropped points for the second time in a row is still a concern, though ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ. Can't help but wonder if they're getting complacent after being top for so long ๐Ÿ˜•. On a positive note, Aberdeen's win over Kilmarnock was much needed and it'll be interesting to see how they carry that momentum forward โšก๏ธ. Overall, it's been an eventful weekend of Scottish football ๐Ÿ†.

omg what just happened at celtic?? ๐Ÿคฏ martin o'neill came in as interim manager like hours ago & already got 4-0 thrashed Falkirk!!! that half time talk must've worked lol idk how much experience shanon maloney has but the team looks super confident now ๐Ÿ˜ and btw why did brendan rodgers just up & leave?? wasnt he their manager already? ๐Ÿค” anyways celtic moving 6 points behind hearts and rangers is looking pretty good for them ๐Ÿ‘

man, you gotta love seein' Celtic come back strong like that under O'Neill ๐Ÿ™Œ! I mean, they got roasted 4-0 but then went all guns blazin' in the second half, and now everyone's talkin' about 'em again ๐Ÿค”. That halftime team talk must've been straight fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ. And for Hearts to drop points again is just annoying ๐Ÿ˜’, but at least Aberdeen gettin' back into the mix is somethin' to watch ๐Ÿ‘€. Can't wait to see what happens in the Scottish League Cup semi-final next week โšฝ๏ธ. Danny Rรถhl's doin' alright as Rangers manager, too ๐Ÿ™, and Motherwell lookin' sharp with that 2-0 win over Dundee United ๐Ÿ’ช

OMG, Celtic is on FIRE ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ดโšฝ๏ธ! Martin O'Neill's return was straight fire, 4-0 thrashing Falkirk was insane ๐Ÿ˜ฒ! And Shaun Maloney, they're like a dream team ๐Ÿคฉ. Hearts are getting frustrated, can't get past Celtic ๐Ÿ˜’... but Rangers is looking up, Danny Rรถhl is killing it ๐Ÿ’ช. Aberdeen and Motherwell too, finally got some wins to boost their confidence ๐Ÿ™Œ. St Mirren's 3-match losing streak? That's a blessing in disguise ๐Ÿ‘€! League Cup semi-final next Sunday can't wait for the drama ๐Ÿ˜

just saw this Celtic manager Martin O'Neill totally smashed it on his return to the helm ๐Ÿคฉ 4-0 thrashing of Falkirk was insane! I mean, he only took over a few hours ago and already got the team firing on all cylinders โšฝ๏ธ gotta give credit where credit is due, the half-time talk seemed to spark some magic ๐Ÿ”ฎ now they're just one point behind Hearts in the league ๐Ÿ“ˆ can't wait for their Scottish League Cup semi-final against Rangers next Sunday ๐Ÿ’ฅ

I'm not sure if I'm being too harsh or just totally wrong... ๐Ÿค”

The thing is, Celtic's 4-0 thrashing of Falkirk was pretty impressive, but is it really all down to Martin O'Neill's halftime team talk? I mean, the guy has been in management for ages, and you'd think he'd have some magic tricks up his sleeve by now ๐Ÿ˜.

And what about the fact that Celtic were supposed to be in a tougher league, but somehow managed to thrash Falkirk 4-0? It's like they just... took over the game or something ๐Ÿคฏ. I'm not buying it.

On the other hand, Aberdeen's win over Kilmarnock was really sweet, and Tawanda Maswanhise's goal was just what Jimmy Thelin needed to get back on track ๐Ÿ˜Š. So yeah, let's all just calm down and enjoy the wins, right? ๐Ÿ’ค

omg u guys i cant even believe how well Celtic played today ๐Ÿคฉ they totally silenced all the doubters with that 4-0 win over Falkirk! martin o'Neill is literally the best thing that's happened to this team since brendan rodgers left and shan maloney is so underrated lol ๐Ÿ™Œ

i know some ppl were worried about the interim managership but it seems like they actually have a good system in place now. the whole squad just clicked today ๐ŸŽฏ and 3 goals in the second half was insane! sean tounekti and johnny kenny are literally the real MVPs right now ๐Ÿ’ช

anyway, i'm SO hyped for next sunday's scottish league cup semi-final against rangers ๐Ÿค it's gonna be a sick match and i know celtic is gonna come out on top ๐Ÿ’ฏ fingers crossed!

Omg, Celtic just destroyed Falkirk 4-0 under new boss Martin O'Neill ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ”ฅ! I mean, it's not surprising really, he's got a lot of experience and knows how to get the best out of his players. That half-time team talk must've worked like magic ๐Ÿ’ก. The fact that they only just took over as managers hours before the game was kinda worrying, but they seem to have gotten their act together pretty quickly.

Anyway, it's not all sunshine and rainbows for Celtic though - they dropped points against St Mirren this week ๐Ÿค”. But let's be real, a 4-0 win is still a big deal! Hearts are struggling again, while Rangers are on fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ‘. And Aberdeen fans should be super happy with their 1-0 win over Kilmarnock - Jimmy Thelin finally got his first goal for the club ๐ŸŽ‰.

I'm intrigued to see how Celtic will do in their Scottish League Cup semi-final against Rangers next Sunday โšฝ๏ธ. It's gonna be a tough one, but I think they've got this ๐Ÿ’ช!

I'm loving this Celtic team's vibe right now ๐Ÿคฉ. Martin O'Neill seems to be bringing in some serious experience and know-how, and it's showing on the pitch! That 4-0 thrashing of Falkirk was insane ๐Ÿ˜ฒ. I mean, you can't knock a manager for getting results quickly, especially when they're only hours into the job.

The fact that Shaun Maloney is O'Neill's right-hand man is also a big plus - those two Irish legends seem to have some great chemistry going on ๐Ÿค. Celtic's still looking strong in the league, and if they can keep it up, we might see them taking on Hearts for the title soon ๐Ÿ”ฅ.

But what I think is even more impressive is how well O'Neill and Maloney are handling this transition period ๐Ÿ‘. It takes a lot of skill to come in and get your team firing on all cylinders so quickly, especially when you're not used to being in charge. So kudos to them for getting it done! ๐Ÿ’ฏ

omg u gotta love how marti o'neill came back & smashed it 4-0 @ parkhead!!! i mean, i was skeptical about him at first but he seems 2 b getting the best outta his squad ๐Ÿคฉ. and shaun maloney looks like a solid deputy lol. celts r in 6th place now but still got a good shot @ the title ๐ŸŽฏ. rangers & hearts are fightin' 4 1st place tho ๐Ÿ’ช. and abe got a sweet win over kilmarnock, jimmy thelin scored his 1st goal in ages! ๐Ÿ‘. momo won convincingly against dunnie u ๐Ÿ‘. semi final time is comin ๐ŸŽ‰

omg i cant believe o'Neill just smashed it on his first game ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ”ฅ he was like this total boss in the press room too, all calm and collected ๐Ÿ’ผ anyway, i think the fact that he took over at hours notice is actually a good thing? its not easy to jump into this role so fast but he got his team firing on all cylinders ๐Ÿ”ดโšฝ๏ธ the whole team looked confident, even the subs were giving it their all ๐Ÿค and those 3 goals in the second half was insane โšก๏ธ gotta say, i'm loving the momentum at celtic rn ๐ŸŒŸ

๐Ÿ˜Š Oh man I can feel the energy in that match ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ’ช! Celtic just completely dominated Falkirk, that's amazing what those guys did in just one game with new managers ๐Ÿคฏ. I'm so proud of them! ๐Ÿ˜ The way they switched up their strategy and scored three goals in the second half was pure magic โœจ. And it's not just about them, all these other teams putting on great performances too is awesome ๐Ÿ™Œ. Aberdeen and Motherwell getting wins will definitely boost their confidence and help them get into that semi-final feeling ๐Ÿ’ช. I'm loving this Scottish league cup so far ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

OMG u guys!! Celtic is on FIRE!!! Martin O'Neill brought that fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ด and I'm so hyped!! 4-0 thrashing Falkirk was like a wake-up call for the team and they delivered!!! ๐Ÿคฉ The way they scored three goals in the second half was pure magic โœจ. And can we talk about how Shaun Maloney is bringing that experience and wisdom to the table? ๐Ÿ™Œ His partnership with O'Neill is going strong and it's amazing to see! ๐Ÿ˜Ž The fact that Celtic took 6 points off Hearts shows they're not messing around ๐Ÿ’ช. I'm loving this momentum and I think they'll crush Rangers in the semi-final ๐Ÿคฏ

Just got done watchin' Celtic thrash Falkirk 4-0 ๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿ˜ฑ and I gotta say, Martin O'Neill's back in the saddle and he's lookin' like his old self! That half-time team talk must've worked its magic, 'cause the lads were unstoppable in the second half ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป. And it's not just Celtic doin' well, Aberdeen's movin' up to 10th after a big win over Kilmarnock, and Motherwell just took down Dundee United with a convincing 2-0 win ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ’ฅ. Hearts are losin' points again, but I still got faith in them #CelticIsBack #O'NeillIsTheMan #AberdeenRising #MotherwellOnFire

man i think celtic is back on track under martin o'neill ๐Ÿ™Œ his return as manager was super convincing considering he just took over hours before the game ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ and to see the team respond like that with 4 goals is amazing โšฝ๏ธ i'm loving the confidence boost for abe fans too ๐Ÿ˜Š their win over kilmarnock was needed and now they're looking good for the semis โš”๏ธ but seriously what's going on at heart of midlothian tho ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ derek mcinnes needs to sort out his team ASAP ๐Ÿ‘€

Just seen that Celtic smashed it 4-0 against Falkirk ๐Ÿคฏ! You gotta hand it to O'Neill, he's got his team fired up and they're playing some great footy. I mean, to go from zero to hero in just one game as an interim manager? That's impressive! ๐Ÿ˜Ž The fact that they were able to get three goals in the second half is a testament to their skill and confidence. And with Celtic moving six points behind Hearts now, it's anyone's game for the Scottish league title ๐Ÿ†. Love how Danny Rรถhl is getting Rangers back on track too - his perfect start can only be good news for Ibrox fans! ๐Ÿ˜„
