Senate backs Donald Trump in Venezuela resolution as Vance casts tie-breaking vote – as it happened

Senate Backs Donald Trump on Venezuela Resolution Amid JD Vance's Tie-Breaking Vote.

The Senate has voted against a war powers resolution that would have prevented Donald Trump from taking further military action in Venezuela without congressional approval. The resolution was met with bipartisan opposition, and only five Republicans joined Democrats in advancing the bill last week.

JD Vance cast the tie-breaking vote as the chamber remained split 50-50 on the measure. In response to the vote, Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer stated that this decision emboldens Trump to push further down a reckless path.

man... i'm kinda worried about where this is gonna lead 🤯 ... like, trump's already got a history of being pretty aggressive with his foreign policy moves and now that the senate has basically said "go for it" without congressional approval... it's hard to see how that's not gonna escalate into something big 🔥

and jd vance casting the tie-breaking vote is pretty interesting too... i mean, some people are saying he's a wild card but honestly i think his votes kinda lean more conservative than you'd expect 🤔 ... either way, this whole thing feels like it's setting up for some major consequences down the line... stay tuned

🤦‍♂️ This is not good at all... just what we need more of... 🙅‍♂️ A Senate that's so divided it can't even make simple decisions about war powers. I mean, come on... five Republicans voting with the Democrats? That's like a ticking time bomb waiting to happen... 🕰️ And JD Vance casting that tie-breaking vote just makes me wonder what's going through his head... was he paid off or something? 😒 The fact that Schumer is already warning Trump will do more reckless things is just code for "we're all gonna be in trouble". 🚨 This is not a good sign for the future of our country...

I don't know man... 😕 The fact that JD Vance broke the tie and voted in favor of giving Trump more freedom to act in Venezuela is super concerning 🤔. I mean, we're already seeing issues with democracy back home and now it seems like some people are just going to let authoritarianism slide? 🙅‍♂️

It's not about whether you like or dislike Trump - the thing that should be at stake here is how we as a country uphold our values of democracy and human rights. We can't just sit back and let one person have total control over another nation's fate 💔.

I think what Schumer said, that this vote emboldens Trump to do more recklessly, might not be entirely unfounded 🤷‍♂️. It feels like we're playing with fire here, and it's only a matter of time before things get out of hand 🔥

I'm not surprised to see the Senate backing Trump's move in Venezuela 🤷‍♂️. I mean, Trump's got a lot of momentum going for him right now and it seems like the majority's willing to go along with his lead. JD Vance's tie-breaking vote really speaks volumes about where the party's headed - they're all about that winner-takes-all mentality. Schumer's warning about Trump pushing down a reckless path doesn't surprise me either... it's been clear that Trump's been itching for an excuse to take action in Venezuela and now he's got one 🚀. I'm just waiting to see how this plays out - will we see a full-blown invasion or is it more of a show of force? One thing's for sure, it's gonna be a wild ride 💥

idk about this... i mean, it's not like trump's gonna use his newfound powers for good or anything 🤷‍♂️. it just feels like he's getting away with more and more without anyone holding him accountable. and honestly, it's kinda scary how much power the senate has given up. 50-50 split in a country that's already super polarized? it's like they're setting the stage for disaster 💥. i'm not saying chuck schumer is being paranoid or anything, but if trumps does end up taking military action without congress' permission... it's gonna be a mess 🤯. and what about jd vance himself? seems like he just got played by his party, if you ask me 😒.
