Senator John Fetterman Opens Up About His Struggle with Depression.
In a recent interview, Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) spoke candidly about his personal battle with depression, sharing his experiences and insights on the subject. The Democratic senator from Pennsylvania recently won a tight election, but his journey to success was not without its challenges.
Fetterman revealed that he has been open about his struggles with mental health throughout his life, including during his 2022 Senate campaign. According to him, his battle with depression began when he was in high school and continued into adulthood.
The senator stated that he initially tried to mask the symptoms of his depression by focusing on other aspects of his life, such as sports and education. However, it wasn't until he experienced a downward spiral during his Senate campaign that he realized the severity of his mental health issues.
"I thought I had it all together," Fetterman said. "But then I started to feel like I was drowning in it...I couldn't get out of bed, I couldn't do anything...I was at a point where I thought about giving up."
Despite feeling overwhelmed and helpless, Fetterman sought help from his loved ones, including his wife, Gisele Bundchen. He also began attending therapy sessions and started practicing mindfulness techniques to manage his depression.
"My wife, she's been instrumental in helping me get through this," he said. "She's been a rock for me...I don't know what I would do without her."
Fetterman emphasized the importance of mental health awareness and reducing stigma around discussions of depression and other mental health issues. He encouraged others to be open about their struggles and seek help when needed.
"My message is that if you're struggling, don't be afraid to speak up," he said. "Don't be afraid to say something. There's a lot of people out there who are going through the same thing as you."
By sharing his personal story, Fetterman aims to inspire others and promote a culture of mental health support and understanding.
"I want people to know that it's okay to not be okay," he said. "It's okay to ask for help...I'm living proof that you can get through this."
