SEPTA tells riders to expect slow service and possible cancellations Sunday

SEPTA prepares for worst-case scenario as snowstorm threatens Sunday commute.

Philadelphia residents are in for a potentially chaotic weekend, with the National Weather Service predicting 12-18 inches of snow between Saturday night and Monday morning. The city is bracing itself for slower service on Sunday, with some SEPTA lines possibly suspended entirely due to heavy snow and ice accumulation.

SEPTA officials have warned customers that bus, trolley, and Regional Rail services will be impacted, leading to possible trip cancellations and total service shutdowns. However, the Market-Frankford and Broad Street lines are expected to remain operational with normal levels of train service and overnight rides available where conditions permit.

Crews have been tasked with keeping station entrances and platforms clear of snow and ice, while Regional Rail will continue its regular Saturday and Sunday schedules on Monday, but with some delays anticipated due to frozen switches and high winds affecting overhead cables and rail infrastructure.

Bus services are likely to be delayed, detoured, or suspended as snow and ice accumulate. Priority will be given to emergency routes that are most likely to have the quickest snow removal. Trolleys will operate on a planned diversion route through Monday morning at the earliest, while the 15th-40th street trolley tunnel may be closed depending on conditions.

SEPTA is taking a proactive approach by suspending services before conditions become unsafe, aiming to minimize damage to buses and trains. The agency plans to provide two hours' notice before any service shutdowns and will post updates on its website and app.

By preparing for the worst-case scenario, SEPTA hopes to ensure a smoother commute for residents and visitors alike when normal service resumes early next week.

ugh I don't buy it 🤔 they're gonna suspend whole lines just cuz of some snow? that's a lot of inconvenience for people who already got plans 📅 what's the real estimate here? 12-18 inches? is that even possible in Philly? and overnight rides on Broad Street line? isn't that just gonna be a safety hazard with all the darkness and snow? i need some credible source to back this up 📰

Ugh 🙄, another snowstorm hitting Philly and I'm already stressing about my Sunday commute 🚨💔. Like, can't we just have a few hours of decent weather without having to deal with the drama? SEPTA's always warning us about this stuff but it still feels like they're not doing enough to prepare for the worst 😩. What's with the bus services being delayed or suspended anyway? Can't they at least give us some notice before we get stuck in traffic 🚗😡. And don't even get me started on the Regional Rail - I hate when that happens 🤦‍♀️.

Ugh, can't believe they're already prepping for this... like, we're still in summer 🙄. I get it though, safety first, right? But seriously, who even planned for this snowstorm to hit so soon? It's like, mid-summer and the weather is already taking a dramatic turn.

I'm a bit worried about the commute on Sunday, though. Like, how are people supposed to deal with all that snow and ice? I hope SEPTA's plan works out, but if it does get chaotic, I'll be over here... just sitting back and enjoying my hot chocolate ☕️.

omg is septa planning for this snowstorm like 2 weeks ago?! i mean i get it they wanna be safe but 12-18 inches of snow in philly? thats just crazy lol think about all the ppl stuck on the trolley or bus for hours no wifi or air conditioning what a nightmare! and dont even get me started on regional rail if its gonna be delayed cuz of frozen switches what are we supposed to do? just sit around twiddling our thumbs while snow falls outside?! septa needs to step up their game tho, at least give us some heads up so we can plan accordingly

omg can u imagine trying 2 get around philly in this kinda weather 😅 snow is comin thru and septa's all like "just chill, we gotchu"... but seriously tho, i feel bad 4 ppl who gotta deal w/ slower buses n trains on sunday... hope they have a plan in place to keep ppl safe n dry 💡 meanwhile, i'm just over here sippin on hot cocoa 🍫👌

omg I'm not gonna lie, 12-18 inches of snow is like, a lot! imagine having to shovel your driveway while trying to get to work on time lol . anyway, SEPTA's being super responsible by warning us ahead of time. i feel for the poor bus drivers who'll have to navigate through all that snow and ice . at least they're prioritizing emergency routes so people can still get where they need to go. fingers crossed it doesn't turn into a total mess! 😂💨
