Deer Park Residents Told to Seek Shelter Due to Chemical Release at Local Plant
A precautionary shelter-in-place order has been issued in Deer Park, Texas, following a chemical release at the Lubrizol Corporation facility. The city's officials confirmed that industrial sites north of Highway 225 were affected, including the Lubrizol plant.
The incident occurred during maintenance work on a processing unit, when non-operational equipment unexpectedly released its contents. According to Lubrizol, no nearby homes were in danger and the company's emergency response team is handling the situation.
However, residents near the site are still advised to stay indoors as a precautionary measure. The Deer Park Office of Emergency Management stated that while there may be noticeable odors in the air on Friday night due to wind changes, they are not harmful and do pose no threat to public health.
Emergency vehicles were present at the scene, but Tidal Road was reopened by Friday afternoon after being closed as a safety measure. Despite an initial statement from officials indicating that two chemical plant workers had been hospitalized following a similar incident in July 2025, neither Lubrizol nor city officials revealed what specific chemical was released during this latest incident.
As of now, the shelter-in-place order remains in effect for those living and working near the Lubrizol facility.
