Sir Chris Hoy: Six-time Olympic champion breaks leg in 'worst' crash of his life

Sir Chris Hoy, the legendary Scottish cyclist, has narrowly escaped a potentially career-ending accident when he broke his leg in a crash that he described as "the worst" of his life.

The six-time Olympic champion, who is Britain's second-most decorated Olympian, revealed the full extent of his injury after being involved in a mountain bike accident while on crutches. The 49-year-old had been undergoing treatment for terminal prostate cancer when the incident occurred.

Hoy described the fall as "unfortunate" but emphasized that he was lucky to have escaped without more severe consequences. He also reassured fans and supporters by stating that the break did not deter him from appreciating life, stating, "I've smashed my leg up... you just don't bounce like you do when you're younger."

Sir Chris Hoy's terminal cancer diagnosis had been announced in October last year but despite this, his love for cycling has continued to drive him.

man thats a bummer 😔 hope he recovers fast and can get back on the bike ASAP gotta feel for him breaking his leg like that after already dealin with cancer 🤕 6-time olympic champ and all, but injuries r part of the game i guess just hope he doesn't have to retire now or something 👍

Man I'm still thinking about that crazy accident with Sir Chris Hoy! 🤯 Like what are the chances of something like that happening to someone who's basically a legend in their sport? It just goes to show how unpredictable life can be, right? But you know what really got me is that this guy was dealing with terminal cancer and then this happens... it's like the universe is testing him or something. 🌌 I mean, his resilience is truly inspiring, but at the same time, it makes you wonder about the system we have in place for supporting people with life-threatening illnesses. Are we doing enough to help them cope? 🤔

😱 can u blv how lucky he is tho? broke his leg & still got back on bike 2moro 😂 but seriously, thats a huge scare 4 any cyclist let alone a legend like chris hoy 💪 hope he gets thru this & keeps inspiring ppl with his determination 💕

man that's crazy 😱 sir chris hoy is a legend and now he's faced with this huge setback 🤕 I feel bad for the guy, cancer was already a tough road to navigate and then you get into an accident like that... 6-time olympic champ, you'd think he'd be invincible 🚴‍♂️. but seriously, it just goes to show how fragile life is, one minute you're living your best life, next minute you're dealing with a broken leg 🤦‍♂️. hopefully he makes a full recovery and gets back on his bike soon, it's amazing how cycling has been his rock through all this 💪

dunno how many times u gotta get broken before u just hang up the bike lmao 🤣 he's like 49 and still got the energy to do that crazy stuff, i mean i'm glad he's alright but come on, the guy's been through cancer and now this? 😂 maybe it's time for him to retire already, not sayin' it's his fault or anythin but he seems like he's def more of a thrill-seeker than most people 🤪

😊 oh man I cant even imagine the thought of chris hoy breaking a leg that bad and still being all positive about it he seems like such an inspiration to me anyway, what's crazy is that cancer was already affecting him at the time 🤕 but he just didn't let it stop him from doing the thing he loves i mean, thats what we should all try to be like, keep pushing through even when things seem impossible 🚴‍♂️ I bet his fans are really relieved that he's okay though, i know mine would be 😅
