Sixers players, Nick Nurse host community events during holiday season: 'It's more than basketball'

Joel Embiid's Holiday Cheer Brings Community Together, 'It's More Than Basketball'

As the Philadelphia 76ers' practice facility was transformed into a winter wonderland, Joel Embiid donned a throwback shirt that signaled he was ready to spread some holiday cheer. The crowd of students from Camden-area high schools erupted as Embiid emerged, surrounded by an array of games, basketball hoops, and decorations.

The event was just one of several community events hosted by the 76ers players and head coach Nick Nurse during the holiday season. On Wednesday, Lowry's "Thanksgiving Assist" event distributed turkeys and dinner sides to local families at the Sixth Man Center in North Philadelphia.

On Thanksgiving Day, Kyle Lowry and Kelly Oubre Jr. held separate events to give back to their community. Lowry's "Thanksgiving Assist" event provided 175 turkeys and dinner sides to families in need. Meanwhile, Oubre visited Cathedral Kitchen in Camden with his family, where they helped distribute 500 Thanksgiving meals.

In addition to these individual events, the team also came together for a Stars & Stripes Day of Service. Sixers staffers packed care kits for veterans and active military members unable to spend the holiday with their families.

According to Coach Nick Nurse, community involvement is crucial for players who are fortunate enough to be in positions where they can make a difference. "I think they need to do their part as well," he said. "They get tremendous support from this community, so they need to give back."

Players like Adem Bona and Jabari Walker took advantage of the opportunity to connect with team employees and ensure that everything was up and running smoothly behind the scenes.

Meanwhile, Paul George hosted eight families at SkyZone in Oaks for a Christmas celebration, providing gifts to the attendees. His event was just one of several community-focused initiatives by 76ers players during the holiday season.

When asked about his experience hosting the event, Embiid said, "I love giving back. Since I've had the opportunity to be in this position, that's always been a goal of mine and a dream of mine." He hopes that his story can inspire young kids to put in the work and trust their own process.

As the 76ers continue to spread holiday cheer throughout their community, it's clear that 'it's more than basketball' for these players. Their commitment to giving back is a testament to the positive impact they can have on the lives of those around them.

Man, I'm lovin' what the 76ers are doin' this holiday season πŸŽ„. It's like, they're not just out there crushin' it on the court, but they're also givin' back to the community in a huge way 🀝. I mean, 500 Thanksgiving meals distributed by Kelly Oubre Jr. and 175 turkeys handed out by Lowry? That's some next-level stuff, fam! πŸ™Œ

And it's not just about the big guys like Embiid, either. The whole team is gettin' in on the action, from Paul George hostin' a Christmas party for eight families to the staff packin' care kits for vets and active military members πŸ’•. It's heartwarming to see these players thinkin' about the people who are less fortunate than them.

I'm just glad that they're makin' a difference, 'cause it shows that there's more to this game than just win or lose πŸ€. These guys are showin' us all what it means to be good citizens and give back to the community. Word. πŸ‘

πŸ€” so i was reading about joel embiid and kyle lowry doing all these cool community events during the holidays πŸŽ„ and i'm like what's up with that? why are nba players giving back in such a big way? it feels like they're making an effort to use their platform for good. i mean, coaches say its part of being grateful for the support they get from the fans and community, but its more than that. these guys are actually putting in the work to make a difference πŸ’ͺ

so yeah i think its awesome that the 76ers players are doing all this holiday stuff for their community πŸŽ„ it shows they care and wanna make a difference. but idk how much of it is actually coming from them vs just their team's marketing efforts lol like, we get it joel embiid likes to spread cheer, but can we also see some tangible change or results from these events? also, i wish there was more info on how the funds are being used and if its even reaching the intended people. still tho, kudos to the players for taking time off their season to give back πŸ’―

🀩 So I was talking to someone close to the team and apparently it's not just about the fancy decorations πŸŽ„ or the gifts they're handing out, it's actually about building genuine relationships with the community πŸ‘₯ They're making sure the behind-the-scenes staff is taken care of too πŸ™Œ, like Adem Bona and Jabari Walker. I also heard that Lowry's Thanksgiving Assist event was super low-key, but still a huge hit 🀫 The players are really getting it, they're not just donating for a PR stunt, they genuinely want to make a difference ❀️

The way the 76ers are doing this holiday stuff? It's literally so heartwarming 🀩! Like, Joel Embiid's winter wonderland thing at practice facility? That was pure magic ✨! And can we talk about Kyle Lowry and Kelly Oubre Jr.? They're just giving back in every single way possible πŸ’–. I love how Coach Nick Nurse is all about the community involvement too - it shows that these players aren't just about their game, they care about making a difference πŸ™Œ. And Paul George's Christmas party? That's some next-level generosity right there 🎁! What really gets me is that Joel Embiid wants to inspire young kids with his story... like, that's the most genuine thing I've seen in ages 😊

Man I love seein' these NBA players givin' back to their community 🀩! It's not just about gettin' paid, it's about makin' a difference in people's lives. Like, Joel Embiid's Holiday Cheer event was so cool, transformin' the practice facility into a winter wonderland πŸŽ„ and bringin' all these kids together. And it's not just one-time thing, they're doin' this stuff all season long, from Thanksgiving to Christmas... that's dedication, fam! πŸ™Œ

And Coach Nurse is right, these players have got some privileges, so it's only fair they use 'em to help others out. I mean, 175 turkeys and dinner sides for local families? That's some serious holiday cheer 😊. And Paul George hostin' those Christmas parties with gifts for the kids... it's just a nice reminder that there are good people in the world.

I'm gettin' all teary-eyed thinkin' about it, man 🀯. It's just so heartwarming to see these athletes showin' they care. They're not just playin' for themselves, they're playin' for their community and makin' a positive impact on the world. That's what it's all about, fam! ❀️

I'm not buying all this charity vibe from these NBA players πŸ€‘. Don't get me wrong, it's great that they're using their platform to help out the community, but let's be real, they're making bank off us fans while doing it 😏. And what about the team's ownership? Are they putting in any of their own money or is this all just a PR stunt for the 76ers' brand πŸ“£? I want to see some actual depth of commitment here before I start believing the "community-first" narrative πŸ’Έ

I'm really touched by what the 76ers are doing this holiday season 🀩. I mean, it's not just about bringing some joy to their community, but also giving back in a tangible way. From feeding families to volunteering at veteran centers, these players are showing that they truly care about making a difference πŸ’–.

But, you know, it's also great to see them taking ownership of their platform and using it for good 🀝. I think that's what sets them apart from just being superstars on the court – they're using their influence to make a real impact. And it's inspiring to see guys like Joel, Kyle, and Kelly leading by example πŸ‘.

Still, you gotta wonder about the bigger picture here πŸ€”. Is this just a PR stunt or is there something more behind it? Are they trying to rebrand themselves as "philanthropic" players or what? Either way, I'm here for it πŸ’―.

πŸ€— I gotta say, I love seeing the 76ers doing all this stuff to give back to their community 🌟. It's amazing how sports can bring people together and make a real difference in someone's life. The way they're using their platform to help out families and veterans is really inspiring 😊. And it's not just about the big events, like Joel Embiid's Holiday Cheer – it's all the little things, too, like the care kits for military members 🎁. It just goes to show that even in a city with so many challenges, there are people who care and want to make a positive impact πŸ’•.

πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ So Joel Embiid decided to turn his practice facility into a winter wonderland and give out free turkeys... because what's more intimidating than a 7'2" center in a Santa hat? πŸ˜‚ But seriously, it's awesome that he's using his platform to bring the community together. I mean, who needs to be a unicorn or a superhero when you can just wear a throwback shirt and hand out holiday cheer? πŸŽ…β€β™‚οΈ The fact that the team is making an effort to give back during the holiday season says a lot about their character, even if it's not exactly what you'd expect from NBA players. And let's be real, it's probably easier for them to just hand out free food and gifts than it would be to actually try to cook dinner yourself... πŸ˜‚

πŸ€• Another devastating flu outbreak reported in the US, over 10k cases confirmed πŸ€’πŸš‘. Meanwhile, Joel Embiid's charity event brought some much-needed joy to the community πŸ‘πŸ’•. I guess that's good news for now, but what about all the other struggles people are facing? πŸ’”

omg I'm like totally loving this Joel Embiid's heart ❀️ he's literally changing lives one holiday at a time! 500 Thanksgiving meals, 175 turkeys, and care kits for vets? it's not just about the basketball πŸ€, it's about spreading love & kindness to those who need it most. I'm so inspired by him and Kyle Lowry & Kelly Oubre Jr too! they're truly making a difference in their community πŸ™Œ

Ugh, this is just another PR stunt by the 76ers to make themselves look all saintly and perfect πŸ™„. I mean, yeah sure, it's great that they're doing stuff for their community, but let's be real, they're only doing it to get some good press and make themselves sound like actual human beings with hearts of gold πŸ’–. I'm not buying it, at least not entirely. And what about all the other players who aren't making such a big show about it? Just saying πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ.

you gotta love guys like joel embiid and kyle lowry who actually care about the people around them 🀝 they're not just doing it for the publicity, they're genuinely making a difference in their community πŸ‘ and i'm glad to see players like adem bona and jabari walker stepping up too, showing that even behind the scenes guys are all about giving back πŸ’― paul george's christmas party at skyzone was lit πŸŽ‰ and coach nick nurse is totally right, community involvement is key for these players, they're so lucky to have a platform and it's their responsibility to use it for good πŸ™

I'm still in awe of how blessed Joel Embiid is 🀩, not just with his basketball skills but also with the platform he has to make a difference in people's lives. I mean, can you imagine waking up one morning and getting to wear a throwback shirt that says it's time to spread some holiday cheer? It's like he gets to be Santa Claus for a day! πŸ˜‚ And it's not just about him, the whole team is doing their part, from Lowry to George, they're all coming together to make a positive impact. I love how Coach Nurse emphasizes that this is what players are supposed to do when they're fortunate enough to be in a position where they can make a difference. And it's not just about the big gestures either, even the smaller things like Adem Bona and Jabari Walker making sure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes. It's these small acts of kindness that really get me 😊.

omg i'm lovin how Joel Embiid is gettin all into the holiday spirit πŸŽ…πŸ½! and it's awesome that the 76ers team is comin together to give back to their community, y'know? they're really showin people that it's not just about winnin games, but also about spreadin love n care. Kyle Lowry's "Thanksgiving Assist" event was super generous too! 175 turkeys for families in need? that's amazing πŸ™. and I love how Coach Nick Nurse is all about the players givin back to their community, it's so true! they're reppin their city n makin a difference. Paul George's Christmas celebration sounds like so much fun too! 🎁

I'm so down w/ Joel Embiid & the 76ers crew doin' all this holiday cheer stuff ! πŸŽ…πŸ½ It's dope seein players takin initiative & givin back to the community like that. Lowry, Oubre, George & the rest of them are really showin what it means to be a leader off the court too 🀝. And let's not forget about Coach Nurse bringin the vision & makin it all happen πŸ‘. It's more than just basketball, fam - it's about spreadin love & positivity ! ❀️

🀝 I'm low-key impressed by how down-to-earth Joel Embiid is being about his charitable efforts πŸ™ he's always raking in that dough, but it's dope to see him using it for good πŸ’Έ and kudos to the whole 76ers squad for coming together to make a difference πŸ‘Š Lowry's "Thanksgiving Assist" event was particularly cool, I mean who wouldn't want turkey and dinner sides? πŸ¦ƒπŸ½οΈ Adem Bona and Jabari Walker are getting in on the action too, which is awesome to see! 🀝 It's moments like these that remind me why Philly loves their 76ers so much ❀️

🀝 I love seeing athletes like Joel Embiid using their platform to make a real difference in their community, especially during the holiday season. It's awesome that the 76ers players and coaches are coming together to host events that bring people together and put smiles on kids' faces πŸŽ„. I think it's really cool that they're not just focusing on basketball, but also on giving back and making a positive impact on their community πŸ’–.
