I'm so sad to hear about this strike at the British Library. It's crazy that some staff get as little as 1.6% pay rise when inflation is already a huge problem. Like, how can you even live on that? I totally get why writers and fans are supporting the workers - it's all about treating people with respect and fair pay .
I've always been fascinated by libraries and the work that librarians do, and now I feel like they're being really underappreciated . Ugh, this is so sad ... I mean, I love a good ghost story as much as the next person, but it's just not cool when you're getting paid peanuts and expected to keep on keeping on . I get where the writers are coming from - fair wages and benefits are essential for anyone working in a public sector role. And let's be real, if the Writers' Festival was going to feature some of our favorite horror authors, they should've been more willing to back them up .
But at the same time, I can see why the writers would want to stand in solidarity with the striking workers. It's not like it's just a matter of "oh, we're getting paid too much" - it's about being treated fairly and having the resources you need to do your job effectively .

omg u guys I'm literally shaking about this one the way these horror authors just stood up for those british library workers is EVERYTHING Joe Hill and others just withdrew from that festival to show their support and it's NOT GOING TO BE IGNORED i mean 98% of pcs union members voted in favor of strike action on a low turnout and now they're getting an inflation-proof pay rise which is like, totally overdue the british library needs to step up its game because these workers are the ones making it all happen behind the scenes and let's not forget V Castro saying that a living wage shouldn't be up for debate - YAAAS QUEEN
I'm totally down for writers taking a stand like this! It's crazy how low those library staff wages are - 1.6% pay award is pretty meh . The strike might cause some disruption, but at least the British Library will keep its buildings open .
