For actress Christina Hendricks, fashion has long been a key part of her creative expression. Her love affair with vintage clothing began in childhood, and this passion has only deepened over the years – inspiring her to collaborate with U.K.-based brand Joanie on a bespoke 12-dress collection.
According to Hendricks, it was Joanie's commitment to using research-driven design approaches and their B Corp certification that really caught her attention. "We were really specific about our patterns... I'm sort of a weirdo, and I keep a back stock of things that maybe don’t fit anymore or that I've always wanted to recreate," she explains.
Hendricks' designs drew on a personal treasure trove of inspiration – from vintage fabrics and old clothing collected over the years. The result was a stunning collection featuring floral prints, flowing silhouettes, and intricate details. One piece, in particular, holds special significance: a breezy yellow wrap dress that reimagines an elementary school favorite.
For Hendricks, fashion has always been about storytelling – whether it's on screen or off. When asked to design for Joanie, she wanted to create clothes that represented her own approach to style, one that often involves curating a character. "Fashion lets you create a character in a way; who do you want to be today? What part of yourself do you want to present to the public tonight?" she muses.
Now, Hendricks' collection is available worldwide – and fans can catch glimpses of her own style influences in pieces like the pink Wallflower dress, with its intricate growing vine motif. The actress's own essentials include a go-to piece from the Joanie collection, as well as insider tips on how to experience Edinburgh's finest hotels and restaurants.
On location filming for "The Buccaneers" in Scotland, Hendricks discovered two hidden gems: Hotel du Vin and The Kitchin – both of which have since become favorites. When not working, she can often be found documenting her own renovation projects at home – a passion project that has earned her an Instagram following.
