The Hundred 2026: Heather Knight committed to playing career despite London Spirit role

Former England captain Heather Knight has committed to playing her career despite taking up a position as general manager of London Spirit in The Hundred.

Knight, 35, will not feature on the field in the 2026 edition of the tournament and will instead support Spirit's sporting director Mo Bobat and women's head coach Jon Lewis. This decision comes after Knight finished a stint in the Women's Big Bash League with Sydney Thunder. She remains contracted to England and Somerset.

Knight stated that she is not retiring from cricket but turning her focus towards what might come next. "It's not me retiring or finishing playing, it's just me turning my head slightly towards what might come next," she said.

The role of general manager will see Knight offering knowledge of the women's game and providing an experienced voice during the tournament. She will not be involved in selection decisions, but will offer support to Bobat and Lewis.

Knight has a strong relationship with Spirit having led them to The Hundred title in 2024. This association, along with her previous experience as England captain and Somerset player, make her well-suited for this new role.

๐Ÿค” so I'm loving the fact that Heather Knight is still all about cricket even if she's not on the field! ๐Ÿ She's got a ton of experience and knowledge to share, and I think being the GM of London Spirit is gonna be a great move for her. ๐Ÿ’ผ It's awesome that she's not retiring from the game, just shifting her focus to other areas... plus who wouldn't want a female cricket legend in charge? ๐Ÿ˜Ž The Hundred is such an exciting tournament, and with Knight on board, I'm expecting big things! ๐ŸŒŸ

I'm kinda mixed about this one ๐Ÿค”. On one hand, it's awesome that Heather Knight is staying committed to cricket even after taking on a big role in The Hundred. She's been an inspiration to so many young players and I love that she's still passionate about the game ๐ŸŸ๏ธ. But at the same time, I'm a bit sad to see her not be out there on the field anymore ๐Ÿ˜”. We've grown to love seeing her in action and it'll be weird not having her there to cheer us on ๐Ÿ‘€. Still, this is a great opportunity for her to give back to the game and help shape the future of women's cricket ๐Ÿ’ช. Fingers crossed she can make a difference from behind the scenes ๐Ÿคž

I'm sure it's not like she was just getting burned out or something ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ. A general manager position that basically means she'll be sitting in a chair, giving advice to others who are doing all the work... sounds like a dream come true ๐Ÿ˜ด. I mean, who wouldn't want to leave the thrill of competing on the field behind and settle into a desk job? ๐Ÿค” I'm sure her experience as England captain will definitely translate well to making decisions for a 20-year-old team with no control over their own lives ๐Ÿ™„

what's up with these cricketers thinkin they can just ditch the pitch after bein a pro & get a comfy office job ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ’ผ i mean don't get me wrong heather knight's still got skills but is she really gonna collect a paycheck while her teammates are out gettin it done on the field? ๐Ÿค” and what's next, is this just a stepping stone to coaching or wut?

omg can't believe @HeatherKNight is still crushing it on & off the field lol she's all about balancing her cricket career with her business sense - talk about a winning formula ๐Ÿค‘๐Ÿ! but seriously, who wouldn't want a coach/gm like her in their corner? ๐Ÿ’ช the Hundred just got a whole lot more interesting ๐Ÿ‘€

๐Ÿ’ฅ๐Ÿ omg i cant believe heather knight is takin on this gig ๐Ÿคฏ she was just playin like 3 yrs ago n now shes all about the admin side ๐Ÿ“Š๐Ÿ’ผ idk if im bummed or excited lol ๐Ÿ’ช she said its not retirement tho so im still holdin out hope she'll come back and smash some boundaries on the pitch ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ‘

I gotta say, it's kinda awesome that Heather Knight is making the most of her cricketing experience ๐Ÿคฉ. As a general manager, she'll be using her expertise to help London Spirit grow in The Hundred, and who knows, maybe inspire some young girls to pick up the game too ๐Ÿ‘ง. At 35, it's not over for her yet - she's just shifting gears a bit ๐Ÿ”„. I'm kinda sad she won't be on the field anymore tho ๐Ÿ˜”, but hey, more power to her for exploring new opportunities ๐Ÿ’ช. Still, it'll be interesting to see how this role pans out, especially with England still needing strong women's cricket leadership ๐Ÿคž.

im not surprised about heather knight making the switch ๐Ÿค”...i mean its great that shes getting involved in the admin side of things after a successful playing career, but im worried how she'll handle the pressure of being in charge without being on the pitch all the time ๐Ÿ˜ฌ. dont get me wrong, shes an amazing cricketer and a role model for young girls everywhere, but i think shes biting off more than she can chew here ๐Ÿคฏ. still excited to see what she brings to the table tho! ๐Ÿ’ช

OMG, i'm low-key sad that heather knight wont b on the field anymore ๐Ÿ˜”๐Ÿ but like, im super hyped about her new gig ๐Ÿคฉ! she's always been an amazing cricketer & now shes goin to bring her expertise 2 the london spirit team ๐ŸŽ‰. i think its so cool dat she's not retirin from cricket, just changin gears a lil ๐Ÿ”„. she'll b able 2 offer guidance & support 2 the team, which is awesome ๐Ÿ’ช. plus, shes got that leadership vibe goin on ๐Ÿ‘‘, so im def gonna be watchin her lead the team in her new role ๐Ÿ’•

I'm loving this move by Heather Knight ๐Ÿคฉ! I mean, she's still super passionate about cricket, just shifting focus to a different aspect ๐Ÿ’ช. Becoming general manager for London Spirit is an amazing opportunity for her to bring her expertise and experience into the game ๐Ÿ“ˆ. Plus, who knows, maybe it'll help inspire more young players like her to get involved in coaching or management roles ๐ŸŒŸ. I'm all about supporting women in sports, and this move just shows how talented & dedicated they are ๐Ÿ’•! #CricketReform #WomenInSports #TheHundred

I'm thinking about Heather Knight's decision... it's like she's trying to redefine what it means to be a 'cricketer'. She's choosing to leave the field behind, but not necessarily hang up her boots. Is that a sign of our society's growing expectations on women in sports? We're starting to see more and more women taking on leadership roles... does this mean we're finally recognizing their value beyond just their athletic achievements? ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ’ช

The young pros these days are thinking about the future already ๐Ÿค”! I love that Heather Knight is taking charge of London Spirit's direction. She's got so much experience under her belt, both on and off the field. It's not about retiring from cricket, it's about evolving as a leader and sharing her knowledge with the next gen of players. This new role will surely help shape the future of women's cricket in the UK ๐Ÿ’ช. I'm excited to see how she'll make an impact behind the scenes! ๐Ÿ‘

๐Ÿค” So she's not exactly retiring from cricket but just changing roles... seems like a pretty standard career transition to me. ๐Ÿ“Š I mean, who wouldn't want an experienced cricketer in their management team? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ What makes me question this is that we're already hearing rumors about other England players taking on similar roles... it sounds like the club's doing some strategic hiring to retain talent ๐Ÿ˜

This is a classic example of the 'two-career woman' dilemma - how do you juggle your passion for sports with a lucrative career move? ๐Ÿค” It's like we're seeing in politics, where some leaders choose to stay in power while others prefer to step down and explore new opportunities.

Heather Knight's decision is similar to what our politicians often face when they decide to transition from active politics to behind-the-scenes roles like general manager. The question is, will she be able to bring her leadership skills to the table without being too influential? ๐Ÿ† I'm curious to see how this new role plays out for her and London Spirit. It's a bold move, but one that shows she's thinking about what comes next.

OMG ๐Ÿคฉ I'm so stoked for Heather Knight!!! ๐ŸŽ‰ She's still got that fire in her belly to play cricket, but now she can use her amazing experience to help others grow and develop the game. Being a general manager is such a cool way for her to stay involved without having to give up playing. I'm loving the fact that she's not seen as retiring from cricket, but more like taking on a new challenge ๐Ÿค๐Ÿฝ. London Spirit are super lucky to have her on board! ๐Ÿ’–

OMG, I'm kinda surprised ๐Ÿ˜ฎ that Heather Knight is still playing cricket despite taking up the general manager position ๐Ÿค”. I mean, it's cool that she's not retiring from the game, but at the same time, I get why she'd wanna explore other opportunities too ๐Ÿ’ก. I've been following her career for ages and I know how passionate she is about the sport ๐ŸŸ๏ธ. As a student, I can relate to her feeling like there's more to life than just one thing - school's not just about academics, you know? ๐Ÿ˜Š We're learning so much beyond our books too! ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ‘

Its all about adaptin' life, right? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ Heather Knight's decision to take up a general manager role after hangin' up her boots is just a sign of how the game's changin'. We're seein' more women in leadership positions and its about time. She's not tradin' in her cricket gear for a suit and tie, she's just lookin' at different ways to contribute to the sport she loves.

And let's be real, 35 is still pretty young for a general manager gig! ๐Ÿค“ I'm all for women takin' on more roles like this, not just on the field but behind the scenes too. It's about diversifyin' the game and bringin' in fresh perspectives. So, even though she won't be on the pitch anymore, Heather Knight is still killin' it in her own way ๐Ÿ’ช
