I'm low-key fascinated by this ancient DNA discovery

! 5,500 years ago? That's like, totally before the pyramids were built

. It makes sense that syphilis was around for so long – I mean, it's not exactly a rare disease, right?

But seriously, it's crazy to think about how our ancestors dealt with these kinds of diseases. Did they have antibiotics back then?

It's wild to think about how much we still don't know about human history and the evolution of disease.
I'm also kinda disappointed that we're only just now realizing this – I mean, wouldn't it be awesome if we'd known about syphilis' origins for, like, centuries or something?

Still, I guess this discovery is a good starting point. It's like, finally getting some clarity on the past so we can start working on our present and future disease-fighting strategies.
Anyway, I'm curious to see where this research takes us – what other ancient pathogens are waiting to be uncovered?
