The Prem: Sale 29-43 Northampton: Saints win 11-try thriller to go back to top

Saints Stun Sale to Return to Top of Prem, but Playoffs Out of Reach. Northampton Saints staged a thrilling 11-try win over Sale Sharks to move back to the top of The Prem, with the 43-29 victory making them two points clear of Bath.

The match was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams creating chances but ultimately failing to capitalise until the final minutes. Saints made a blistering start, scoring three tries in quick succession as Sale struggled to gain any real foothold in the game.

However, the Sharks levelled the scores after half-time and took the lead just before the break when Tom O'Flaherty touched down under the posts. The match was reduced to 29-26 in favour of Sale late in the second-half but Saints ultimately proved too strong, with Henry Pollock securing a try from halfway to seal their victory.

Sale director of rugby Alex Sanderson admitted that his team came up short in several key areas, including set-piece, scrum dominance and collisions at the breakdown. He also praised Northampton for sticking to their plan despite a chaotic game.

Northampton Saints' director of rugby Phil Dowson, however, was more effusive in his praise for his team. He noted that it had been a long time coming but now felt sweet as his side finally broke through to win at Sale's home stadium after a 2017 loss.

The defeat leaves Sale reeling from their fourth consecutive top-four finish slipping away and with all hopes of securing qualification appearing increasingly remote.

For Saints, the win was a major statement of intent ahead of the Six Nations break, which will see several of their squad members called away to represent England.

OMG u guys, can't believe Sale fell apart at home against Northampton ! they just got destroyed 43-29 lol what happened? 🀣 did they not train enough or something?! Alex Sanderson's gotta do some serious soul-searching 'cause set-piece is a major issue rn...

Omg, saints are back on top πŸ†πŸ‘! Their 11-try win over Sale was literally insane 😲! I was on the edge of my seat the whole game, cheering them on from start to finish πŸŽ‰. Phil Dowson's comments about sticking to their plan were so true πŸ™Œ, and I'm glad they finally got that W πŸ’ͺ. Meanwhile, Sale is looking a bit worried 😬... 4th consecutive top-four finish slipping away? Yikes! πŸ€• Guess they'll just have to keep working hard πŸ’Ό. The Prem just got more exciting πŸ”₯, can't wait for the next match! πŸ‘€

OMG, I'm literally on the edge of my seat after watching that match 🀯! Northampton Saints totally dominated Sale Sharks and it's amazing to see them back at the top of The Prem πŸ’ͺ. 11 tries is crazy talk, I need to see that again... and again... and again πŸ˜‚! But seriously, their scrum dominance was on point and they really showed up in the end πŸ™Œ.

I feel for Sale Sharks though, they had a great run going but just couldn't quite seal the deal. Alex Sanderson's admission about set-piece, scrum dominance, and collisions at the breakdown makes sense - those are key areas that Saints were able to capitalize on 🀝.

It's also awesome to see Phil Dowson's excitement about breaking through at Sale's home stadium after all these years πŸ’•. And with the Six Nations break coming up, it'll be interesting to see how this momentum carries over for Saints while their squad members are away representing England πŸ”₯!

πŸ‰πŸ’ͺ You can't stay in your corner of the forest waiting for people to come to you. You have to go to them 🌳. The team's determination and hard work paid off in this thrilling match, it was a sweet victory after all those years of disappointment! πŸŽ‰

πŸ‰ I'm loving how Northampton Saints just went from underdogs to top dogs in The Prem! It's been a long time coming but they've finally got that win at Sale's home stadium after all those years of heartbreak. 🀯 The fact that they stuck to their plan despite the game getting totally chaotic is a testament to Phil Dowson's coaching skills.

The thing I find kinda interesting is how this win affects the playoff race. It's like, they're still two points clear but you can never underestimate Sale's chances of making a comeback. And let's be real, the pressure on them now is even more intense since they've been in the top four for so long and then had it slip away from them... 🀯

awww, it's like Sale is going through one of those tough times you know? πŸ€• they've been working so hard and coming close but just can't seem to get that win at home 🏠... i feel for them, it's not easy to keep pushing when things aren't going your way πŸ’”. Northampton Saints on the other hand are just riding high right now 😊 their team is so united and they really know how to execute their game plan ⚑️! can't wait to see what they do next 🀞

oh man... i'm loving this comeback from saints! 🐱πŸ’₯ they've been struggling for ages but it looks like they're finally back on track. but i have to wonder what happened at sale? they had all the momentum going into the second half, but seemed to lose control of the game at some point. was it just a mental block or did they get caught out by saints' tactics? πŸ€” and speaking of tactics, how's their set-piece looking? they were struggling in that department before the match, so was it all sorted out today? πŸ‘€

😬 can't believe Sale's season is basically over now... they've worked so hard to get into that top 4 spot and it slipped right through their fingers. Northampton Saints' win was definitely a momentum booster for them, and now they're sitting pretty at the top of The Prem with two games left before the Six Nations break πŸ‰πŸ‘Š

OMG, what an epic comeback by Northampton Saints 🀯πŸ’₯! They totally deserved that win after being stuck in 2nd place for ages 😩. Their team effort was insane, with like, 11 tries scored? That's a record-breaking number for the Prem! πŸ“šπŸ‰ But seriously, Sale Sharks were just too inconsistent today - they can't seem to get their act together, especially when it comes to set-piece and scrum dominance πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. I'm loving how Saints' coach Phil Dowson is riding high on this win though 😎. Their squad's got so much potential, and now that they've finally broken through, watch out for them in the playoffs! πŸ’ͺ🏽

omg just watched that sale vs northampton saints game πŸ€―πŸ‰ what can i say? saints totally dominated in the end but it was so back and forth like! πŸ”„ i feel bad for sale tho, they had a great run but now it's looking like playoffs are out of reach πŸ˜”. anyway, congrats to northampton on that epic win! πŸ‘πŸ’ͺ watch till the 3:20 mark to see pollock score from halfway πŸ“Ί [https://www prem.com/news/article/2024-12-15/saints-stun-sale-to-return-to-top-of-prem-but-playoffs-out-of-reach](https://www.prem.com/news/article/2024-12-15/saints-stun-sale-to-return-to-top-of-prem-but-playoffs-out-of-reach)

omg what an epic comeback by Northampton Saints!!! 🀩 they totally deserved that win after being so close to losing it in the second-half πŸ˜… and I gotta say, I'm loving Phil Dowson's attitude right now - he's always been a top coach and this win is just proof of that πŸ‘ Sale might be down but they're not out yet, though 🀞 still gonna be sad for them if they don't make playoffs, fingers crossed for Saints though! πŸ’ͺ

OMG u gotta love Saints right now! 🀩 11 tries? That's like, crazy talk!!! I mean Sale had some chances but they just couldn't capitalize on them. Alex Sanderson said it himself, they came up short in set-piece and scrum dominance... pretty obvious when u watch the match πŸ˜‚

And for Saints to win this big game at Sale's home ground after all those years? Epic! Phil Dowson's gotta be over the moon. The fact that his team finally broke through makes everythin' worth it. This win is like a breath of fresh air for Saints fans... let's hope they can keep this momentum goin' πŸ”₯

πŸ€” I'm loving this comeback from Saints, but you have to wonder how they're gonna keep it up without most of their top players on international duty πŸ˜…. Dowson's speech about breaking through at Sale's place was pretty emotional tho πŸ™Œ, gotta give those guys some credit for never giving up. Sanderson's right, though - they did get outdone in key areas like set-piece and scrums... maybe time to tweak the gameplan before it's too late? πŸ’‘

Wow πŸ˜‚ that's insane! The Saints team played like crazy for 3 tries in quick succession lol what was going through the Sale Sharks' minds when that happened? 🀯 and also, wow, Henry Pollock scoring a try from halfway is like something out of a movie scene πŸŽ₯. It's so great to see Northampton back at the top and I'm loving their team spirit right now πŸ’ͺ!

omg can't believe saints are back on top πŸ’ͺ🏽! i was getting so worried they'd choke under pressure 🀯 but they really stepped it up and showed what they're capable of. that try by pollock from halfway was insane 😲! i'm loving the way dowson's team is gelling, everyone's working together and it shows on the pitch πŸ’•. sale were always a tough opponent, but saints came out on top in the end πŸ‘. now let's see how they perform with all those england players away πŸ€”πŸ‘€

I feel bad for Sale πŸ€• they just can't catch a break! πŸ˜” Alex Sanderson is right that it's not just about wins, but about the little things like set-piece and scrum dominance. That's what separates the top teams from the rest.

Northampton Saints have definitely sent a message ahead of their Six Nations break though πŸ’ͺ I mean, two points clear at the top with a win away from Sale? They've got to be feeling confident now 🀞 And for them, it's all about finally breaking through and getting that win at Home Park. That 2017 loss must have been tough to swallow πŸ˜”

πŸ€” Saints totally deserved that one, I mean they were on fire in the first half and Sale just couldn't keep up. Alex Sanderson's got some work cut out for him, they need to sort out those set pieces ASAP or it's gonna be a long season πŸ“¦. On the other hand, congrats to Saints, they finally broke through at The Hall πŸ˜…, that win feels so sweet after all these years. Can't wait to see what Phil Dowson's team brings back from the Six Nations break πŸ’ͺ

omg can't believe saints just smashed sale like 11 tries lol πŸ€―πŸ˜‚ what a game!!! i think sale were so close but their set piece and scrum just wasn't there today :( alex sanderson is gonna have to go back to the drawing board, but congrats to northampton for finally breaking through at sale's home turf! that's a huge statement of intent before the six nations break πŸŽ‰βš½οΈ i hope saints can keep this momentum going, they're looking strong right now πŸ’ͺ
