Ubisoft Cancels Multiple Games, Including Highly Anticipated Prince of Persia Remake
A major shake-up has hit Ubisoft, with the French game developer confirming that six high-profile games are no longer in development. Among them is the remake of its classic 2003 title Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, which was first announced four years ago but has been stuck in development hell ever since.
The news comes as part of a major restructuring effort by Ubisoft, which will see the company split into five independent "creative houses" that function as separate business units. This new model aims to increase efficiency and focus on flagship franchises such as Rainbow Six, Assassin's Creed, and Far Cry.
Three new IPs were also canceled, while one was delayed until after April 2027, although no release date has been officially confirmed for the upcoming game. A rumored remake of Assassin's Creed: Black Flag is likely one of the games that has slipped in development.
However, not all bad news - Ubisoft is closing its Stockholm studio, which had recently unionized, and reorganizing other studios as part of the restructuring process. The company declined to disclose how many layoffs could occur due to the major changes.
It's a significant blow for gamers who were eagerly anticipating some of these highly anticipated titles. With several high-profile games canceled or delayed, it remains to be seen which franchises will receive the attention they deserve under Ubisoft's new organizational model.
