can't believe another film like "the sea" is getting an oscar nod its about time someone humanizes the occupation situation in israel/palestine i mean, all these years we've been hearing about the conflict from both sides but never really seeing it through the eyes of the ones living it the cinematography is stunning and pollak's direction is masterful, but what really gets me is how real it feels like no other film has done this before the cast is incredible too, especially mohammed ghazaoui as khaled his performance gives me chills every time i just wish more ppl were talking about this kind of issue and less focused on sensationalism or entertainment
ugh i just binged "The Sea" and omg my emotions are all over the place i mean cant we just talk about how heartbreaking its is to watch a kid like khaled try to navigate a world thats literally stacked against him? hes so young and curious but his life is defined by borders and permits and the constant fear of being caught. and mohammed ghazaouis performance as khaled is just wow... i mean i didnt want to cry at all during most of the film but when he finally gets to see the sea...
i love how the film isnt afraid to tackle the complexities of this situation without offering any easy answers or solutions its like pollak is saying "hey we know this is hard and theres no one right way to deal with it" and i think thats a really beautiful thing. the way the film balances khaleds personal story with the broader social context is just masterful.
i also wanna give a shoutout to the collaborations between jewish and palestinian israeli creatives its so important that we hear from both sides of this conflict and not just one perspective. "The Sea" feels like a big hug for all the people who are feeling invisible or ignored by the world around them... it reminds us that even in the darkest times theres always hope and beauty to be found
I'm loving this new Oscar contender! "The Sea" is giving me all the feels - it's like a punch to the gut in the best way possible . The way the film humanizes the Palestinian experience under occupation is so necessary, especially with Israel's policies still ongoing . That 12-year-old Khaled's journey to see the sea is EVERYTHING - I mean who wouldn't want to experience life beyond their village's borders? It's amazing how the film balances personal story with broader social context, offering a powerful critique without being too preachy . And can we talk about that performance from Mohammed Ghazaoui? Nearly silent yet oh-so-powerful . I think this film is exactly what we need right now - a humanizing gaze to help us see ourselves in the struggles of others . 10/10 would recommend!
omg u guys i just saw the trailer for this film "The Sea" and it gives me all the feels i mean what if u r from a village in the west bank & u wanna see the sea but ur not allowed 2? its like, totally relatable 2 me lol idk how they did it but they showed the struggles of being palestinian under occupation & it was honestly so powerful & moving i love how the main character khaled is only 12 & he's trying to learn hebrew which is crazy hard 4 him 2 do cuz his whole village speaks arabic not hebrew its like, a huge barrier between them n the rest of israel u should totes check it out
