The Strangers: Chapter 3 review – pointless remake trilogy ends with a sputter

Tragedy Strikes in the Midst of Desolation: 'The Strangers' Remake Series Fizzles Out with Lackluster Conclusion

Renny Harlin's direction of the third installment of his remake trilogy of the 2008 horror classic 'The Strangers' is a textbook example of how to suffocate what could have been a thought-provoking exploration of an unsettling universe. By expanding the scope of the narrative, the filmmakers inadvertently diluted their self-contained moral dilemma into a generic and formulaic thriller that fails to leave a lasting impact amidst the recent horror renaissance.

The story revolves around Maya, the last surviving protagonist, as she navigates a quaint woodland community where she has become an unwitting pawn in a twisted game of cat and mouse with masked killers. With only two remaining perpetrators, the stakes are raised, but the narrative is still hindered by character development issues, particularly for the talented cast members who have been relegated to underwritten roles.

Supporting characters like Sheriff Rotter and Gregory add little substance to the plot, while the introduction of Maya's sister Debbie serves as a shallow attempt to inject new life into an otherwise stagnant storyline. The themes of tolerance and acceptance in seemingly idyllic communities are still present, but Harlin chooses to tie up loose ends with workmanlike efficiency, eschewing any semblance of tension or suspense.

The pacing is plodding, bordering on antiquated, which only serves to emphasize the trilogy's overall lack of momentum. Thirty minutes of drawn-out pauses fail to deliver a narrative payoff that would have justified this final chapter in the series. It's clear that resources were depleted during production, resulting in a product that feels like a footnote rather than a substantial conclusion.

Ultimately, the 2008 original 'The Strangers' will endure as a standout example of American ordeal cinema, but its remake trilogy, culminating in this lackluster finale, is reduced to the status of outright detritus – an afterthought blown by a stiff breeze through the multiplex. Despite the modest resources at play, it's hard not to feel that this conclusion was inevitable from the start, a grim testament to how even well-intentioned reimaginings can falter in execution.

I just watched the last episode of The Strangers remake trilogy and I'm so disappointed 😔. I mean, I know they're trying to tackle some deep themes like tolerance and acceptance but it feels like they're just phoning it in 🤦‍♂️. The characters are all so paper-thin and Maya's sister Debbie is literally just a plot device 🙄. And don't even get me started on the pacing - I felt like I was stuck in a never-ending crawl through the woods with no end in sight 😴. It's clear they were trying to cram too much into this final episode and it shows 🎥. The original is still my fave, but this trilogy just feels like a mess 💔.

the original 'The Strangers' is still way better than this remake series 🤕 Renny Harlin should've just left it alone lol, and now the whole trilogy feels like an afterthought... like, what's the point of even having a final chapter if it's gonna be so meh? 😒 the actors deserve better too, they're wasted on these underwritten roles. the themes are still kinda cool tho, but they get watered down by all the nonsense that happens in this last installment 🚮

just watched the last one of the strangers trilogy and man it was such a let down 🤦‍♂️. they had so much potential but ended up just phoning it in and i'm not sure what's wrong with harrlin, he made 2 good movies before this one but now he's just like "hey let me just slap together some generic thriller stuff" 🚫 the cast is still great tho, they deserved better than this trash 💔

the third installment of 'The Strangers' remake trilogy is such a letdown 🤕 - i was really hoping for more depth and tension in the story, but it felt like they just phoned it in 😴. expanding the scope to include new characters kinda worked against them, you know? it made the whole thing feel more generic and less focused. and ugh, don't even get me started on how much potential was wasted with those supporting roles 🙄. i mean, we all love a good horror movie, but this one just felt like an afterthought 🎥. can't wait to see what other remake ideas are in the works that will actually do justice to the originals 😒

🤔 I'm so done with these remake series that just milk the original for all they're worth 🤑. The Strangers trilogy had some potential but Renny Harlin's direction is straight out of a formulaic thriller playbook 📚. Character development? Nonexistent 😒, supporting characters are just window dressing 💁‍♀️, and them trying to add new life with the sister thing just fell flat 🤮. The pacing is slower than a snail on valium 🐌 and it's clear they were phoning it in after 30 minutes 📺. Can't help but wonder what could've been if they actually had more resources 💸 and didn't rely so heavily on tired tropes 🔴👻. The original still holds up, unfortunately, the trilogy is just a total waste of time ⏱️.

I'm really disappointed with the latest installment of The Strangers remake series 🤕 It feels like they took a great concept and just phoned it in. I mean, who wants to watch a thriller that's just going through the motions? The characters are so underdeveloped it's hard to care about what happens to them. And don't even get me started on the pacing - it's like they're trying to test our patience 🕰️.

I think what really bothers me is that this final chapter feels like an afterthought. They should've put more effort into making it a satisfying conclusion to the series, but instead it just feels like a lazy cash-grab 💸. It's a shame because The Strangers was such an original and unsettling film back in 2008. I hope they take some notes from that original and try again with their next project 🤞

🤦‍♂️ ugh man i just watched this remake and it was literally a waste of time... like they took all the scares and tension from the first one and just phoned it in for the last two movies 📺 Renny Harlin is just not getting it right and now this third installment is just a bland thriller that doesn't even try to live up to its predecessor's standard 🤔 what were they thinking? 😒

🤷‍♂️ I mean, what can you say? It's like they took all the potential for depth and just...phoned it in 📞. The whole "isolated community" thing is so done right now, feels like every other horror movie has tried to pull that same trick out of a hat. And don't even get me started on the character development...it's like they took all the interesting folks from the first two movies and just kind of...forgot about them 🙅‍♂️. I guess you could say it's a fitting end to an already questionable series 😐. Anyway, who needs suspense when you can just pad out your runtime with awkward silences? 💤

"Ugh, just what I needed - another remake series that fails to live up to its potential 🤦‍♂️. Like, come on guys, couldn't they have at least tried to make it more tense and suspenseful? The whole 'woodland community' thing sounds like a super interesting concept, but it's like they took all the excitement out of it and replaced it with generic thriller tropes 🌲💀. And don't even get me started on how underdeveloped the supporting characters are... I mean, what's up with Sheriff Rotter? 😒"

I'm so disappointed with the final installment of 'The Strangers' remake trilogy 🤕🎬 I thought for sure it was gonna be intense and mind-blowing, but nope! The whole thing just felt like a generic horror movie that's more predictable than scary 😴. And I don't even get why they had to include Maya's sister Debbie - it was such an unnecessary twist 🤷‍♀️. Can we please just stick to the original story and leave some of these plot threads alone?

Ugh, come on, this remake series is such a bummer 🤦‍♂️. I mean, they had it all - creepy atmosphere, tense plot... but did they execute? Nope 😴. Renny Harlin's direction just falls flat, like he was sleepwalking through the whole thing 😴💤. And don't even get me started on the character development, it's like they took all the depth and substance from the original and replaced it with cardboard cutouts 🎨😷.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around why they thought expanding the scope was a good idea... it just makes the story feel so generic and formulaic 😒. And what's up with the pacing, it's like they were trying to put me to sleep on purpose 😴💤. I mean, I get that resources were limited, but that's no excuse for a subpar conclusion like this 💔.

The original 'Strangers' is still a masterpiece in my book 🎥👏, but this remake trilogy? Forget about it... it's like they took all the good stuff and left the trash behind 🚮💔.

🙄 I'm so disappointed with the last installment of 'The Strangers' remake series! 🤕 Renny Harlin's direction is all over the place and it feels like they just phoned it in at this point. I loved the original, but this third part was a total snooze fest 😴. The pacing was so slow, I found myself checking my watch every 5 minutes 🕰️. And don't even get me started on the characters - Maya's sister Debbie is literally the most underdeveloped character since like ever 🙈. It's like they took all the tension and suspense from the first two movies and just...left it on the table 🤦‍♀️. I mean, what was the point of even making this third part if we're just going to give up so easily? 😒

Ugh, I'm so underwhelmed with this latest remake of 'The Strangers' 🤕👎. The pacing is straight out of a sleepy Sunday afternoon movie – you know, the kind where you're just waiting for something to happen, but it never does 📺😴. I get that they were trying to expand on the story, but honestly, it just made everything feel like it was missing its bite 💔. And don't even get me started on how the whole plot was resolved – it felt like a lazy attempt to wrap things up without any real tension or suspense 🤦‍♀️. Overall, I'd say this is a total letdown from what could have been a thought-provoking thriller...
