The Struggle for the Future of the New York Democratic Party

The conversation between Akela Lacy, Jim Walden, and others on the Intercept Briefing podcast discusses the future of the Democratic Party and the New York City mayoral race.

Jim Walden, a former lawyer and businessman who ran for mayor in 2025, is discussing his decision to endorse Andrew Cuomo for mayor. He mentions that he believes Cuomo is someone who can help address the city's housing crisis and other issues.

Walden also discusses his differences with Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic candidate running against Cuomo. He criticizes Mamdani's plan to dismantle or defund the police department, calling it a "dangerous" policy that would lead to a breakdown in law and order.

The conversation touches on various topics, including the potential impact of Cuomo's policies on the city's housing crisis, the role of the NYPD in addressing crime, and the importance of press freedom in defending democracy.

Overall, the podcast episode provides insight into the complex issues surrounding the New York City mayoral race and the future of the Democratic Party. It highlights the need for bold and effective solutions to address the city's challenges and emphasizes the importance of press freedom in holding those in power accountable.

I'm not convinced by Cuomo's housing plan 🤔. Sounds like more of the same old bureaucratic red tape to me. And I still don't think defunding the police is a good idea, but let's be real, it's not like they've come up with anything concrete yet 💡. Walden's concerns about Mamdani's policies seem valid, though. We need someone who can actually bring results, not just more talk 🗣️. And what's with the emphasis on press freedom? Like, isn't that what we're supposed to have in a democracy already? 📰

omg u guys, i was listenin to this podcast on Intercept Briefing and it's like, totally mind blowin 🤯! so akela lacy & jim walden are talkin about Cuomo runnin for mayor and walden is all like "yeah i'm down 4 Cuomo cuz he'll fix the housing crisis" 😂 but then there's zohran mamdani who's all like "nope, defund the cops" 🚫 walden's all critical of that tho, sayin it's super dangerus and will lead 2 a breakdown in law & order. idk man, can't we just find a balance? 🤷‍♀️ anyway, it's clear Cuomo's got some good ideas but also gotta keep an eye on Mamdani's plan 👀

idk about jim walden endorsing cuomo, seems like a weird move 🤔. Cuomo's got a lot on his plate with the housing crisis and stuff, but i'm not sure if he's the right guy for the job. zohran mamdani's plan to dismantle the police department does sound pretty radical tho, but at the same time, it's hard to deny the systemic issues that lead to crime in the first place. what's even more worrying is how they're framing press freedom as a thing that needs to be defended... shouldn't we be pushing for real change instead of just defending the status quo? 💬

🤔 I'm telling you, this whole NYC mayoral thing is shadier than a used car salesman. Jim Walden's sudden endorsement of Cuomo is just a distraction from his own shady past 🤑. And what's with this "dismantle or defund the police" talk? Sounds like they're trying to create chaos so they can impose their own agenda 💥. I mean, come on, who thinks that's a good idea? 😂 Not me, that's for sure...

I'm thinking, this whole endorsement thing is wild 🤯... I mean, Jim Walden runs his own campaign and then he just jumps ship for Cuomo? It's like he wants to be part of the "winning team" or something 😂. And what's with all the drama between him and Mamdani? Can't they just disagree without it being so heated? 💁‍♂️

Just listened to that podcast episode with Jim Walden and I gotta say, it's crazy how people can be so passionate about politics 🤯. I mean, both sides have valid points, but at the end of the day, you just wanna see what's best for the city right? The housing crisis is a big deal, but dismantling the police department? That's like trying to solve a puzzle with two missing pieces 😕.

I do think it's awesome that Jim Walden is speaking up about his differences with Zohran Mamdani, though. It shows he's not afraid to take a stand and share his opinions 🗣️. And hey, if Andrew Cuomo can help address some of the city's issues, I'm all for it 💼.

But what really got me was when they talked about press freedom and how important it is to hold those in power accountable 💥. That's what it's all about – finding that balance between making change happen and respecting everyone's rights 🤝. Fingers crossed the next mayor can do just that 🤞.
