The US is fast-tracking this important HIV drug — for everyone except South Africa

🤔 so like I was reading this article about this new HIV shot that's gonna be given twice a year 📆 and it's supposed to make it cheaper for people in some countries 💸 but then I saw that they're not giving it to all countries, only the ones that are kinda poor but also rich enough to afford it 🤷‍♂️. That seems kinda unfair to me. And what's even crazier is that the US government is like "nope, we're not distributing this" 🚫 to some countries in South Africa. I mean, isn't the point of all this to help people who need it most? It just feels like there are a lot of strings attached to making this shot available 💸🔒

I think it's crazy that they're making lenacapavir available in 120 countries but not all of 'em 🤯. I mean, we're talking about a lifesaving shot here, people! How can you just leave out entire regions like South Africa and Brazil? It just doesn't add up, you know? And $40 per year is still pretty steep for some folks. I'm glad they're working on making it cheaper, but what's the point if it's not going to reach everyone who needs it? 🤷‍♀️

idk why gilead's being all greedy about lenacapavir lol they're gonna make a killing off that shot but at least they're doing something right by sharing tech with other devs 🤔 meanwhile, south africa is getting screwed over... who gets priority when it comes to public health? shouldnt it be everyone regardless of income level? the whole system's messed up if u ask me
