Though ‘Zootopia 2’ lacks original’s bite, it’s still a fun romp - Detroit Metro Times

Disney's Zootopia sequel has finally arrived, and while it may not live up to the original's groundbreaking charm, it's still a fun and entertaining ride. The film picks up nine years after the events of the first movie, with Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde now officially partners at the Zootopia Police Department.

The story revolves around a case involving a lost part of the city, a nasty family of billionaire lynxes, and a sweet pit viper named Flash. As Judy and Nick delve deeper into the mystery, they're forced to confront their own prejudices and fears. However, unlike the original, this sequel doesn't quite capture the same nuance and depth, instead focusing on more lighthearted chases and animal puns.

While that might be a letdown for some viewers, particularly adults like myself who saw the first film with its iconic anti-racist messages, kids in the audience were still thoroughly enjoying themselves. The animation is colorful and diverting, if not as groundbreaking as it was a decade ago. The locations in this sequel are more generic and lack the immersive quality of the original's Rainforest District.

Despite some missteps, Zootopia 2 has a genuinely affectionate script that wants to see Judy and Nick succeed as three-dimensional animal cops. The film pays homage to classic noir while still having fun with its own brand of humor. While it may not have captured the same ephemeral magic as the original, it's still an enjoyable experience that teaches kids valuable lessons about acceptance and love.

Ultimately, Zootopia 2 is a predictable but pleasant sequel that will likely become another billion-dollar smash for Disney. As long as these lovable characters keep having something to say, I'm more than happy to join them on their next adventure. Your kids and theirs should be too.

😊 I agree with you, the new Zootopia movie is still a fun ride! 🎥 I mean, who doesn't love Judy and Nick's banter? 🤣 The animation is so colorful and vibrant, it's like stepping into an animated wonderland! 🌳 And I think it's great that they're teaching kids about acceptance and love through the story. 👍 It might not be as groundbreaking as the first one, but it's still a sweet sequel that'll delight both kids and adults alike! 😊

I gotta say, I was expecting so much more from the sequel. I mean, who doesn't want a movie that's got as much depth and nuance as the first one? But I guess you can't exactly recreate lightning in a bottle, right? Still, I do love how they're tackling themes of prejudice and acceptance head-on - it's super important for kids (and let's be real, adults too) to see themselves represented on screen. And Flash the pit viper is adorbs! 😊 The animation is definitely not as revolutionary as the first one, but it's still got that classic Disney charm going on. I'm just glad they're keeping Judy and Nick as partners - their banter is always good for a laugh. Overall, I'd say this sequel is a solid 7 out of 10 - not bad, not great, just... fun? 🎥👍

I just watched Zootopia 2 with my little one and we had a blast 🤩🦁! The new animation is still super colorful and fun, but I have to agree that it's not as groundbreaking as the first one 😐. I was hoping for more depth and nuance in the story, but I think they did a great job of teaching kids about acceptance and love ❤️. It's not perfect, but it's a predictable but pleasant sequel 🤗. My kiddo loved the animal puns and the chases were so much fun to watch 🎥. All in all, it's a great film for families and I'm excited to see what Judy and Nick get up to next 😄!

omg I was so hyped 4 zootopia 2 but it kinda fell short 4 me lol 😐 the animation is still so cute tho! i loved the classic noir vibes they went 4 but like u said it's not as groundbreaking as the 1st movie 🤔 idk about some ppl saying it's predictable tho i mean it's def a fun watch esp with the kiddos 👧🏽😊 what did u guys think of nick & judy tho? still my fave cop duo 🚨

👍 Wow! Zootopia 2 is still a fun ride, but it's not the same magic as the first one 😊. The animation is colorful and all that, but I miss the depth and nuance of the original 🙃. Still, it's awesome to see Judy and Nick back on screen together 💕. And hey, it's always great for kids to learn about acceptance and love 🌈. Can't wait for their next adventure! 👫

i know i'll sound old, but honestly zootopia 2 feels like a commercial rather than a creative endeavour 🤑 the original was a game changer, but sometimes it's just not possible to recapture that magic. don't get me wrong, it's still fun and family-friendly, but for this retiree, there's something missing - maybe its just the fact that kids aren't as young as they used to be 😊

i mean, it's nice they tried to recapture the magic of the first one... but let's be real, it was a masterpiece 🙄. i loved how the sequel toned down the 'problems' with zootopia and just went for a lighthearted romp instead? yeah, that really feels like growth as a character... not at all.

I don’t usually comment but I kinda feel like this new Zootopia movie is like that one relative who's still super fun at parties but not really that deep in conversation 🤷‍♀️. It's got its moments, don't get me wrong - the animation is still on point and the script has some genuinely sweet moments 💕. But for those of us who saw the original and were all about the anti-racist vibes, it was a bit of a letdown 🙅‍♂️. Still, I guess that's just part of growing up... or in this case, part of being an animated movie 😜. Kids are still gonna love it, though - they're always down for some cute animal cops and fun chases 🐾👮‍♀️!

🤔 I mean, have you noticed how Disney's always trying to cash in on the magic of the original Zootopia? It's like they're relying on nostalgia rather than actually creating something new and groundbreaking. And don't even get me started on that whole "partners at the police department" thing - it feels like they're just trying to make Judy and Nick more relatable for kids. I'm not saying it's all bad, but sometimes I feel like Disney's losing sight of what made Zootopia so special in the first place... 🎥

awww, i was a bit disappointed by this one 🐰😔 but then i thought about all the cute moments between judy and nick 😍 and it's still super fun! i love how they're tackling tough issues like prejudice & acceptance in a way that's relatable to kids 🌈💖 and even though it might not be as groundbreaking as the first one, it's still a great message about love & empathy ❤️🐾

I was expecting some of the magic of the original to carry over into this sequel 🤔 but instead what we got was a fun, lighthearted romp that's more geared towards the kiddos 🎉. I mean, who doesn't love Judy and Nick's banter? 😂 But as much as I appreciate the nostalgic value, I couldn't help but feel like it was all a bit too on-the-nose - you know, with its themes of acceptance and love being hammered home from every angle 🤯.

It's not that it's bad, per se... it's just that it doesn't have the same level of nuance or depth as the first film. It's like they took all the fun, clever stuff and made it more palatable for a younger crowd 🎊. Don't get me wrong, I think kids will love it - but for adults who saw the original with its groundbreaking messages? 🤷‍♀️ not so much.

Still, I guess that's the beauty of sequels - they're always gonna be a little predictable 🙄 and not quite live up to the magic of the first film. But hey, at least it's still fun! 😊

I just watched Zootopia 2 and it's like they took all the fun parts of the first movie and mashed them into a big ol' bowl of colorful chaos 🎉🦊. I mean, who doesn't love Judy and Nick's antics? But for me, personally, it was like they lost some of that special spark that made the original so groundbreaking 💡.

I'll admit, I was expecting more from this sequel, especially since I was a huge fan of the first one 🤔. The message about acceptance and love is still there, but sometimes I felt like it was just hitting me over the head with a cute cartoon hammer instead of a clever, nuanced approach 🙄.

Still, my little nephew loved it (and his parents did too!), so that's gotta count for something 😊. Maybe it's not perfect, but hey, when you're 4 years old, who cares about nuance? Just give me more cute animal puns and I'm set!

I gotta say, the new Zootopia sequel is still super fun but it's like they're playing by a different set of rules 🤔. The original was like, totally groundbreaking and all that jazz, so I'm kinda surprised this one isn't more nuanced. But hey, kids love it, right? 🐰🎉 And let's be real, the animation is still on point 🌈. It's just not as immersive as the first one, you know? But, I mean, what can you expect from a sequel? 😊 The script's got its heart in the right place and it's all about acceptance and love - that's something we should all be rooting for ❤️. Overall, it's still a fun ride, even if it doesn't quite live up to the original's magic ✨.

🎥 I gotta admit, I went in expecting a total snooze fest but it wasn't all bad 😴. The jokes were cheesy, but the chases were still super fun 🏃‍♀️! Judy & Nick are still my fave duos - love how they're always got each other's backs 👫. The animation is pretty cute too, even if it's not as bold as the original 🔥. And hey, at least they tried to tackle some real issues like prejudice and acceptance 🙏... even if it felt a bit watered down 🤔. Overall, it was an enjoyable ride - just don't expect any Oscar buzz 🎬.

I was really hyped for this sequel but it's defo not as good as the first one 🤔. I mean, where was the depth? The nuance? It felt like they took all the cool stuff from the first movie and replaced it with more animal puns 🐰😂. Don't get me wrong, it's still a fun watch but I was expecting so much more! The animation is cute tho 👀 and the new characters are alright I guess... Flash the pit viper? Who would've thought 😂. But for real though, Judy & Nick's storyline felt like they were just rehashing old stuff 🤷‍♀️. Still, it's not all bad - it teaches kids some good lessons about acceptance and love ❤️. Overall, it's a solid sequel but I wish they'd taken more risks 🎥. Can't wait to see what Disney comes up with next tho! 😄

OMG 🤩, I just watched Zootopia 2 with my kiddos 🌳👧 and we all had a blast! 😄 I gotta admit, it was a bit of a letdown for me since the first one was SO iconic 💖, but the kids didn't care - they were totally into it! 🎉 The animation is still so colorful and fun, even if it's not as groundbreaking as the original. And can we talk about how adorable Nick and Judy are together? 😍 I love how the movie wants to see them succeed as a team, it's really sweet. The script is also super funny, especially the animal puns 🐰😂. Overall, it's still an enjoyable movie that teaches great lessons for kids, so I'm already planning on watching the next one with my little ones 😊

omg i loved the new zootopia movie!!! 🤩 it's still so much fun, even if it's not as deep as the first one. the animation is gorgeous and our kids are literally obsessed with it! 😍 they love jude & nick together so much more than they did in the first film. my little one kept saying "nick loves judy" over and over again lol. anyway, the movie still conveys some amazing messages about acceptance & love... i'm all for that 🌈💖

I went into this sequel with high hopes, but it's like they took the magic of Zootopia 1 and replaced it with a bunch of generic cartoon fun 🤔🎥. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's still super cute and all, but where's the depth? Where's the nuance? It feels like they're trying to appeal to both kids and adults at the same time, but ended up losing that special something that made the first film so memorable 🤷‍♂️. I guess what I'm saying is, if you loved Zootopia 1 for its groundbreaking storytelling and messages, you might be a little disappointed here 😐. But hey, my kids are gonna love it, they'll just think it's the "bestest" thing ever! 😉
