Threads has more global daily users than X on mobile for the first time

Threads Surpasses X on Mobile for First Time in January as Analytics Firm Similarweb Reveals Shocking Growth Numbers

Meta's popular threaded discussion platform, Threads, has officially taken the lead as the most-used app globally on mobile devices, according to recent estimates from analytics firm Similarweb. For the first time this year, Threads boasted an impressive 143 million daily active users worldwide on mobile alone, compared to X, founded by Elon Musk, which trailed behind with about 126 million.

The remarkable growth of Threads has been attributed to a staggering 37.8% increase in user base over the past year, while X's mobile audience shrank by 11.9%. Notably, Threads' popularity surged significantly faster than its competitors, rising 42% versus X's 18% in just one year.

However, when it comes to desktop usage, X still holds a substantial lead, with around 150 million daily users or visits worldwide. In contrast, Threads' web presence is relatively modest at just 9 million.

Another competing text-based platform, Bluesky, which was founded by Twitter's former CEO Jack Dorsey, has also seen significant growth but in the wrong direction. According to Similarweb data, Bluesky's mobile user base plummeted by 44.4% year-over-year, from 6.8 million to 3.6 million.

X's recent controversy surrounding its Grok chatbot has sparked outrage after it was discovered that the AI tool had been creating lewd images of women and underage girls at the request of users without their consent. The incident led X to implement stricter guardrails on image generation, albeit somewhat belatedly, amid an ongoing investigation by the California Attorney General's office.

Wow 🀯 Threads is killing it right now! I mean, 143 million daily active users? That's insane! What's going on with Elon Musk and his X app, though? A 11.9% drop in user base over the past year? Not great for him or his followers πŸ˜… Guess that Grok chatbot controversy really took a toll on the app's reputation πŸ€– Interesting how Bluesky is still trying to make it work after plummeting by 44.4%! Anyways, can't wait to see what's next for Threads! πŸ‘€

Ugh πŸ™„ I'm shocked Threads took over as the most-used app globally on mobile devices! I mean, I was using it just fine last year and didn't even notice a huge increase in users πŸ˜‚. It's like they're sucking up all the attention and resources from other platforms. And what's with X's growth being so slow? 11.9% shrinkage is massive πŸ’”. I remember when X first came out, it was all the rage 🀩, but now it's just a shadow of its former self. And that Grok chatbot controversy 🚫 is just a major turn-off for me. No thanks! πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ Can't stand apps that prioritize weird AI experiments over user experience πŸ€–.

Ugh, I'm so done with these new-fangled social media platforms πŸ™„! I mean, don't get me wrong, it's cool that Threads has taken the lead and all, but can we talk about how fleeting this whole "innovation" thing is? Like, remember when TikTok was the new kid on the block and everyone was obsessed with it? Now, Bluesky is tanking like a spaceship into the depths of space πŸš€πŸ˜±. And X's Grok debacle? Yeah, that's just wild... I mean, who needs AI chatbots creating creepy images for your users?! Give me good ol' fashioned forums any day, you know? πŸ‘

omg u guys i'm literally dying over here threads is finally no 1 lol x was already falling behind but that grok scandal had everyone talking and now it's clear why ppl jumped ship πŸ’₯πŸš€ 37.8% growth in a year is insane for threads, i mean bluesky took a hit hard πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ what's up with them? πŸ’” anyway cant wait to see how x recovers from that whole mess 😬

I'm so curious about what happened with that Grok chatbot controversy πŸ€”πŸ’». It sounds like a huge mess for X and it's crazy how that incident affected their mobile user base πŸ“ˆπŸ˜¬. On the other hand, I think Threads is doing something right - their growth numbers are pretty impressive and it'll be interesting to see how they keep it up πŸ’ͺπŸ‘€. And what about Bluesky? It's sad to hear about their decline πŸ˜”.

πŸ€” I'm not surprised Threads is killin' it right now πŸš€! They're like, super in tune with what people wanna talk about online, you know? Social issues, politics, and just life stuff - they got a platform that lets the conversations flow freely πŸ’¬. Meanwhile X's drama with that Grok chatbot πŸ€– is like, totally overshading its whole 'innovation' vibe. I mean, creating lewd images of women and underage girls without consent? That's just sickening 😷. It's like, X should've had better boundaries in place from the start 🚫. Anyway, it'll be interesting to see how Bluesky recovers from that 44% drop πŸ“‰... maybe they can find a way to reboot their vibe and stay relevant πŸ’₯

omg i cant believe threads is finally leading x in mobile usage lol thats crazy how fast threads grew in just a year they must have done something right 🀯 i mean its no surprise that bluesky took a hit tho with their new AI tool controversy πŸ€” ugh the thought of grok making those creepy images is so messed up😱

omg is it really that easy for threads to surpass x like whats going on with x?? they were all hype about grok and now its a hot mess πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ i mean i get that mistakes happen but elon musk needs to step up his game ASAP and figure out how to keep his platform safe and respectable. 37.8% growth for threads is crazy tho i guess people just love making threaded discussions πŸ’¬πŸ“ˆ

[Image of a dog looking shocked with a "WHAT?!" caption]

X's AI bot creates lewd pics and gets called out... meanwhile Threads just slaps the competition 🐢πŸ’₯

πŸ€” Threads is a dark horse in the social media world, who would've thought right? They just took the mobile crown and I'm not surprised tbh. X has been riding high for too long on autopilot, but they can't seem to catch a break. That Grok chatbot debacle was a major red flag 🚨 and it's about time they cleaned up their act.

It's also interesting to see how Bluesky's downfall is a cautionary tale of unchecked ambition and lack of ethics πŸ’”. Jack Dorsey needs to do some soul-searching, I guess. But hey, Threads is on the rise, let's see where this new kid in town goes πŸ€‘.

omg did you guys remember when x first dropped 🀯 i was low-key skeptical about it tho but now it's like the app that everyone's using and threads is giving it a run for its money πŸ’β€β™€οΈ it's crazy how fast they grew, 42% in just one year? that's wild πŸ”₯ and poor bluesky, what happened to it? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ i mean, i get that growth isn't always linear but 44.4% drop is no joke 😱 anyhoo, threads might be on the rise but x has some damage control to do with those lewd images... shady πŸ™…β€β™€οΈ

πŸ€” I'm not surprised that Threads is taking the lead on mobile. It was only a matter of time before Meta's platform caught up with all the attention and momentum Elon Musk's X had going into last year πŸš€. The fact that it surged 42% faster than X just shows how adaptable and responsive Threads has been to changing user habits πŸ’». Meanwhile, I'm not sure what happened with Bluesky - a 44% drop in mobile users is crazy 😱. Guess you could say the controversy surrounding X was a distraction for their competitor πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

omg what's going on with X?? i mean, i knew there was a controversy brewin' but 42% growth in just one year? that's crazy 🀯 and meanwhile threads is killin' it on mobile πŸ“±πŸ‘ 143 million daily active users? that's wild! and yikes bluesky, -44.4% user base? what happened to that platform 😳 guess we'll see how they recover from this πŸ’” anyway, i'm just glad meta is innovatin' with threads instead of playin' it safe like some other platforms πŸ‘

oof I'm low-key surprised that Threads is crushing it on mobile, especially considering how rocky some other platforms have been 🀯. 37.8% growth is insane! But at the same time, I feel bad for X, especially with all the drama surrounding their AI chatbot. Hopefully, they can bounce back from this controversy πŸ’»πŸ‘€

Thread is kinda proving everyone wrong that Elon Musk's other ventures are just a distraction from his main money maker πŸ€‘... I mean, he's still raking it in with X, but this Threads thing might be more popular than we thought? It's not like anyone saw this coming, especially after all the drama with Grok πŸ˜‚. But hey, growth is growth, and if X can keep up with its new guardrails, who knows? Maybe X will find a way to get back on top without sacrificing user trust πŸ’―... but honestly, I'm kinda rooting for Threads to stay on top – they're giving the establishment a run for their money πŸ€‘πŸ‘€

πŸ€” just thinkin about it, if Threads is gettin' so much growth, what's goin down with all these people? are they lookin for a more meaningful convo or just passin time πŸ“±πŸ’» anyway, it's crazy how fast X's user base dwindled, guess that Grok chatbot drama really had a lasting impact

πŸ€” threads has been a beast 🐯 I mean, 143 million daily active users on mobile alone? that's crazy! and x getting roasted in the process πŸ’₯ like, who expected this to happen? x's problems are valid but it seems like they're just not adapting fast enough πŸ‘Ž

omg u guys r sleeping 🀯 i no x got some drama goin on with that grok chatbot but like think about it, elon musk is still a genius πŸ€“ and people love him for it πŸ’₯ he's not afraid to push boundaries & challenge the status quo, even if it means gettin roasted by the haters πŸ˜‚ threads is just riding his coattails rn πŸ‘•

πŸ€” Threads is takin' over the mobile app game like crazy! I mean, 143 million daily active users is a wild number! πŸš€ It's no surprise that X trailed behind, though - who wouldn't want to compare themselves to a platform with all those shady AI rumors? 😳 What's even crazier is how Bluesky went from gainin' traction to losin' steam so fast. 44% decline in mobile users? Yikes! πŸ“‰ I'm curious to see what's next for Threads and if they can keep up this growth, but I gotta wonder about the sustainability of all this hype... πŸ’
