Tolls to drive over eight Delaware River bridges will increase next year

Tolls on Eight Delaware River Bridges Set to Rise Next Year, Boosting Travel Costs for Motorists.

Drivers crossing the Delaware River will face higher tolls starting January 1 as the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission has approved a rate structure that increases prices by between $0.50 and $3 per vehicle. The hikes are aimed at funding infrastructure projects, offsetting rising construction costs, and maintaining bridge safety.

The commission's proposed rates have sparked concerns for motorists, particularly those in two-axle vehicles under 8 feet high, who will see an increase of $2 to $5 without an E-ZPass or $0.50 more to the current rate with the electronic payment system. Buses and trucks exceeding 8 feet in height will pay upwards of $6 per axle with or without an E-ZPass.

These toll increases affect eight bridges spanning across New Jersey and Pennsylvania, including the Trenton-Morrisville, Scudder Falls, and Easton-Phillipsburg bridges. The commission cited financial projections showing a risk to its general fund reserve balance and debt service coverage ratio, prompting the need for these rate hikes to ensure bridge maintenance and operation costs are covered.

The eight toll bridges set to see price increases are:

1. Trenton-Morrisville (Route 1)
2. Scudder Falls (I-295)
3. New Hope-Lambertville (Route 202)
4. I-78
5. Easton-Phillipsburg (Route 22)
6. Portland-Columbia (Routes 611, 46 and 94)
7. Delaware Water Gap (I-80)
8. Milford Montague (Route 206)

These rate increases will be implemented to maintain the structural integrity of the bridges and fund necessary expenses like snow removal during the winter months.

I'm getting a bit annoyed about these toll hikes ๐Ÿค”... I mean, I get it, we need to fix our bridges and all that, but $0.50 to $3 more per vehicle? That's just adding insult to injury for people trying to drive around for work or family stuff. And what's up with buses and trucks paying way more than the rest of us? ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’จ It feels like they're picking winners and losers here... I just hope these tolls don't end up crippling our local economy ๐Ÿ“‰.

๐Ÿค” I don't get why they need to raise the tolls again... I mean, I guess it makes sense that they wanna keep up with construction costs and all that, but an extra $2-$5 for me? That's just gonna put more strain on people's wallets ๐Ÿค‘. And what's the deal with buses and trucks? They're already getting hit hard with these price hikes... don't they deserve some kind of discount or something? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ At least I guess it's good to know that all the money is going towards keeping those bridges safe and well-maintained ๐Ÿ’ช. Still, I'm not thrilled about it ๐Ÿ˜.

ugh tolls are getting outta hand! i was planning a road trip from NJ to PA next year but now ill have to factor in an extra $10 or so just for crossing one bridge ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ˜ฌ. i get that infrastructure needs funding but is it really necessary to hit everyone hard like this? ๐Ÿค”

Ugh, great news for all you penny pinchers out there... I mean, not so much ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ. So, these tolls on the Delaware River Bridges are set to rise next year, which means more cash from your pocket for crossing the river. Like, what's new, right? The thing is, they're increasing prices by like, $0.50 to $3 per vehicle... that's not exactly a fortune, but still, if you're on a tight budget, it's gonna hurt ๐Ÿ’ธ. And get this - buses and trucks over 8 feet high are basically getting priced out of crossing the river ๐Ÿš๐Ÿšง. Not sure what they're planning to do with all that extra cash, though... maintain bridge safety? Offset rising construction costs? Meh, sounds like an excuse to me ๐Ÿ˜’. Anyway, good luck paying those tolls, folks! ๐Ÿ’ธ

omg, tolls are just gonna keep on rising ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ’ธ it's so frustrating for all us commuters who already spend a pretty penny on gas and parking. i mean, i get it, infrastructure needs to be maintained and updated, but $0.50-$3 per vehicle is still kinda steep ๐Ÿคฏ those buses and trucks with the height restrictions are gonna feel the pinch even more, and what about people who can't afford an E-ZPass? it's just gonna make travel costs even harder for low-income folks. hopefully these toll hikes will lead to some nice upgrades and safety improvements, but i'm still not feeling too optimistic ๐Ÿ˜

Ugh, tolls on the Delaware River are about to get even more expensive ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ. I'm not surprised though, infrastructure projects don't come cheap, and it's only a matter of time before we're stuck with higher costs for everything.

On one hand, I get that maintenance is important and these bridges need funding, but isn't there a way to find more efficient ways to raise funds or cut costs? The current rates are already pretty steep, and now they're gonna jack 'em up again? It's like the cycle never ends ๐Ÿ”„.

Still, I guess it's better than nothing. At least they're being transparent about the reasons behind the rate hikes. And hey, maybe some of that extra cash will go towards making those snow removal services less painful during winter months โ„๏ธ.

Ugh, tolls are gonna get outta control ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ’ธ I mean, I get it, we need to maintain these bridges and all that, but can't we just find a way to make them more efficient or something? $2-$5 more for those 2-axle vehicles is just steep. And what's up with the buses and trucks having to pay so much more? It's like they're gonna have to shell out their entire paycheck every time they drive across the river ๐Ÿค‘...and for what? So we can keep on truckin' (or rather, driving) without worrying about bridge maintenance costs? Not convinced ๐Ÿค”

Umm... tolls are already kinda steep in some places, so I'm not surprised they're increasing them again ๐Ÿค‘. I mean, I get it, we need to fix the bridges and stuff, but it's gonna affect a lot of people, especially those who drive smaller cars or just can't afford the extra cash ๐Ÿ’ธ. I hope they don't make it too hard for ppl to pay without an EZ Pass, that'd be annoying ๐Ÿ˜ฌ. Can we not just, like, collect more tolls on some of the other roads instead? ๐Ÿค”

๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’ธ Ugh, tolls are gonna get so expensive next year! ๐Ÿคฏ I was thinking of taking a road trip to New Jersey soon, but now I'm not sure if it's worth it. ๐Ÿค” The commission is trying to fund infrastructure projects and maintain bridge safety, but it feels like they're just passing the buck to us drivers. ๐Ÿ˜ฉ I mean, who doesn't love paying more for a toll? Not me, that's for sure! ๐Ÿ’ธ It's not like we don't already pay enough in gas and insurance, right? ๐Ÿ™„

omg I'm literally dreading driving across those bridges next year... ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ˜ฌ my friend's bus tour group has been raking in the cash from these tolls for years now, but now they're gonna have to shell out even more dough. I feel bad for the commuters who already struggle with paying their tolls on time, it's like they're being asked to foot the bill again ๐Ÿ’ธ. what's the deal with the E-ZPass system though? does anyone actually use that thing? ๐Ÿค”

Ugh, tolls again ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ! Can't we just chill for a sec? I mean, I get it, infrastructure needs money, but do we really need to hit our wallets even harder? Those price hikes are gonna be a real bummer for road trippers and commuters alike. It's like they're trying to nickel-and-dime us into oblivion ๐Ÿ’ธ. And what's up with the E-ZPass drama? Can't they just make it more user-friendly instead of making things more complicated? I swear, sometimes I feel like we're living in a real-life video game where you gotta pay for everything just to progress ๐ŸŽฎ.

just think about it, more tolls on the delaware river bridges is a bit harsh for us drivers, especially those with smaller vehicles or without an e-zpass... i mean, who doesn't love saving cash while road trippin' ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’ธ? but at the same time, i get why they need to raise those rates - infrastructure projects don't fund themselves, and bridge maintenance is super important for our safety on the roads. so yeah, it's a trade-off, and hopefully people will just roll with it and help keep these bridges safe ๐Ÿคž...

Tolls are gonna go up again ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ˜ฌ. It's like, we know these roads gotta get fixed, but $2 more for a car with no E-ZPass? That's just another thing to worry about. I mean, what's next? Are they gonna start charging us by the mile or something? And don't even get me started on those buses and trucks... that's just not fair. I guess it's all about keeping the bridges safe and stuff, but can't we just find a better way to fund those projects? Maybe increase taxes or something? It feels like we're always paying more for the same things ๐Ÿค‘.

ugh tolls are already so annoying ๐Ÿ™„, and now they're gonna rise again? thats just not fair on us commuters who are already stuck in traffic for hours a day. idk how ppl can afford to pay more every time we cross the river... maybe we need to start looking into alternative routes or carpooling? or even better, why dont we invest in public transport instead of building more roads and bridges?! ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’จ

omg, i know some ppl are gonna freak out when they see these toll hikes ๐Ÿคฏ! it's true that infrastructure costs keep rising, but $2-$5 more is a pretty big bump for some commuters ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’ธ. and what about those buses & trucks that already have to pay so much?! ๐ŸšŒ๐Ÿšš it's just not fair to raise the rates by that much. i get that the commission needs to fund bridge maintenance, but can't they explore other options like public-private partnerships or grants instead of passing on the costs to drivers? ๐Ÿ’ธ๐Ÿ’ก

Ugh, tolls are gonna get so outta control ๐Ÿคฏ! I mean, I get it, infrastructure needs funding, but $0.50 to $3 per vehicle? That's just a cash grab ๐Ÿ˜’. And what about people who can't afford E-ZPass or have 2-axle vehicles under 8 feet high? They're gonna get stuck paying way more for crossing the river ๐Ÿšจ. I'm not sure if these hikes are really necessary, especially with how fast technology is advancing and tolls just getting increased left and right ๐Ÿ’ธ.
