Top AEW star accepts his full-time career is over

Bryan Danielson, AEW's top lead analyst, has accepted the harsh reality that his full-time wrestling career is indeed over. The 48-year-old, famously known as "The American Dragon," had been hopeful of making occasional returns to the ring despite a lingering neck injury that ended his reign as AEW World Champion at WrestleDream 2024.

In an honest and candid interview with Chris Van Vliet on "Insight with Chris Van Vliet", Danielson admitted that his earlier aspirations to make sporadic comebacks were nothing more than "delusions". The harsh truth hit him once he resumed a regular travel schedule for his commentary role, which has taken its physical toll. The reality check set in, and the former wrestler has now acknowledged that his best days in the ring are behind him.

Danielson expressed relief at having put to rest the idea of returning to active competition, stating that traveling for work had become unbearable. "This traveling is like, 'Okay, yeah, that would not be a good idea'," he said. The pain and discomfort had likely eroded any progress he could have made during his time off.

Although Danielson wouldn't confirm his retirement outright, he did acknowledge that if he were to return, it would be impossible for him to regain his former level of performance. "Never be the same performer" is a poignant phrase that seems to encapsulate his newfound acceptance of this reality. The era of Bryan Danielson as the dynamic force in professional wrestling has come to an end.

aww man, it's like, I feel bad for him... he was such an amazing wrestler back in the day πŸ€•. it's crazy how our bodies just don't recover like they used to 😩. I remember watching him wrestle at WrestleMania and thinking he was invincible πŸ’ͺ. now he's got to accept that his time in the ring is over, which is hard for any athlete to do... I hope he finds a way to stay involved in wrestling without putting himself through all that stress and pain πŸ€—.

Just heard about Bryan Danielson's retirement news and I gotta say, it's bittersweet πŸ€•πŸ’” He was such a dominant force in the ring, especially during his reign as AEW World Champion πŸ”₯. It's hard to imagine anyone else holding that title with such ease πŸ’ͺ. Now that he's acknowledged reality and put an end to those delusional comeback plans πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ, it's time for him to focus on his commentary role and share his expertise with the world πŸ“Ί. His honesty is a testament to his character, and I appreciate how he's taken responsibility for not being able to regain his former level of performance πŸ’―. The wrestling world will miss him, but we'll always cherish the memories of "The American Dragon" in action πŸ”₯πŸ’« #RIPBryanDanielson #TheAmericanDragon #AEW #WrestlingLegends

I gotta feel bad for BD, you know? I mean, he's still got the knowledge and expertise, but your body just can't take it anymore πŸ€•. I've seen guys like him try to hold on too long and it's just not worth it. His neck injury is no joke, and it's great that he's taking care of himself now.

It's bittersweet for fans though, 'cause you never know when someone might make a comeback and surprise everyone πŸ€”. But if I'm being real, BD knows what's best for his body, and if he can't be at 100%, it's better to just hang up the boots.

I will say, though, that his commentary work is still top-notch πŸ“Ί. He's got so much insight and passion to share with fans, even when he's not in the ring. So maybe retirement isn't so bad after all? πŸ˜‰

I think it's kinda sad that Bryan Danielson is saying goodbye to the wrestling world, I mean, he was having so much fun out there πŸ€•πŸ‘Š. He's been one of my favorite wrestlers for ages and to see him struggling with his neck injury made me really concerned about his well-being πŸ’”. I remember when he won that AEW World Championship at WrestleDream 2024, it was like a dream come true for fans!

I can totally relate to how hard traveling can be, especially when you're in your 40s 🀯. It's great that Bryan Danielson is prioritizing his health over his career aspirations, though. He's definitely had an amazing run and I'm grateful for all the epic matches he was a part of πŸ’₯.

It's interesting to see how commentary work has taken its toll on him 😐. You'd think it would be less physically demanding than in-ring performances, but I guess not πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. Either way, Bryan Danielson is still an iconic figure in the wrestling world and his expertise as a commentator won't disappear anytime soon πŸ’‘.

For me, this means saying goodbye to one of my favorite wrestlers, but also seeing him move on to new challenges πŸŽ‰. Who knows? Maybe we'll see more of him behind the commentary desk or even in other creative roles πŸ€”? The world will miss Bryan Danielson's passion and energy for sure πŸ˜’πŸ‘‹

I feel bad for Bryan Danielson, I mean, he's gotta accept that his body isn't what it used to be πŸ€•. It's cool that he's being honest about his situation and realizing that trying to make sporadic comebacks was just wishful thinking 😊. I get why traveling for commentary work is taking a toll on him - it's no joke, all those hours on the road can't be easy πŸ’¨. He's right, if he were to come back to wrestling, he'd never be able to match his old form πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ. It's time for him to hang up his boots and focus on other things that bring him joy 😊.

I'm kinda sad to see Bryan Danielson hanging up his boots full-time... πŸ€• He's still got so much passion for the sport and it shows in his commentary work, even if he can't keep getting hurt trying to do a backflip off the top rope anymore πŸ˜‚. It makes sense that traveling for work took its toll on him, though - I've been on some grueling road trips myself (bad jokes aside) πŸš—. Anyway, it's cool that he's being real about his limitations and can just focus on enjoying the rest of his career as a commentator... plus who knows, maybe he'll still pop up for an AEW special every now and then πŸ˜„!

omg u guys can't believe it 🀯 bryan danielson is officially done with wrestling! i feel bad for him, he's been so dedicated and talented, but his neck injury was a major factor... i mean who hasn't had those 'delusions' about making comebacks tho πŸ˜‚ anyway, now that he's acknowledged reality, i think it's time for him to focus on commentary full-time... his expertise would be SO valuable! πŸ€“ i remember when he won the AEW world title at WrestleDream 2024, what a moment πŸ’₯ but like, Bryan said himself, his best days are behind him... kinda sad but also super respected for being honest about it 😊

omg i'm so sad πŸ€• bryan danielson is one of my favorite wrestlers and it's crazy how fast time flies he was like a rising star just yesterday and now it feels like he's already hanging up his boots πŸ˜” what do u think is gonna happen to his commentary work tho? will he still be able to provide those epic insights for us πŸ€“

man what a bummer πŸ€• i feel for danys like he's been carrying the weight of aew on his back and now he's gotta hang up those boots πŸ˜” it's not easy to accept that you're done with something you love, especially when it was such a huge part of your life. but at least he's being real about it and acknowledging that his body just can't take it anymore πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ travel schedule for commentary work is no joke, gotta respect him for recognizing that it's taking its toll. still sad to see the american dragon fly away, but i guess we got some awesome memories of his time in the ring πŸ’₯

πŸ˜” I gotta feel bad for BD, he was always so full of energy and passion when he stepped into that ring! 48 is still young, but I guess even superheroes have their limits πŸ€Ήβ€β™‚οΈ. He's one of the smartest guys in the game, it's about time he prioritized his health over his wrestling dreams. That commentary gig isn't gonna take care of itself, and I'm sure he's happy to be getting paid to talk wrestling instead of taking a beating πŸ’ΈπŸ‘. The American Dragon may have retired, but his legacy lives on 🀘!

I'm kinda relieved he's accepting his retirement tho πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ... I mean, traveling for commentary work is a nightmare, and if it was that hard on him, maybe it would be for other wrestlers too 😬. On the flip side, it's sad to see The American Dragon hang up his boots for good πŸ‘‹... I guess he's just being realistic about his physical limitations πŸ€•. At the same time, it's kinda impressive how honest he is about not wanting to try and come back πŸ™... I mean, if he knew even now that he wouldn't be able to perform at the same level? 😬

omg i just tried the new matcha KitKat flavor from Japan and it's LIFE.CHANGING πŸ«πŸ‘€ i mean, have you ever had a KitKat with green tea infused into it? game changer! anyway, back to bryan danielson... 48 is still pretty young for retiring from wrestling, but i guess his body has other plans πŸ˜…. i remember watching him wrestle at nxt and he was just so good, it's sad that he can't do what he loves anymore πŸ€•. maybe he'll find a new passion or hobby to fill the void? 🎨

🀯 I mean, I kinda get it from Danys perspective but its still weird to think about him just chillin on the commentary chair 😴 all day. Tho its not like he's gonna be stuck there forever, right? He can always keep his input and share his expertise without actually having to endure the pain and fatigue of being in the ring πŸ€•. Plus, can you imagine if he tried to make a comeback now? It would just be an injury waiting to happen πŸ˜‚. Time for Bryan to focus on what he's good at – sharing his knowledge with the world! πŸ‘
