I'm really worried about what's happening in Israel right now
. I mean, 32 years in prison is already a huge deal, but to be subjected to torture and brutal treatment... it's just not okay. And to think that this is becoming more normalized? It's like, they're treating prisoners like warriors or something
. The fact that a UN commission has documented so many deaths in Israeli custody is heartbreaking. And what really gets me is how Abu Srour went from prison life to living in 5-star hotels after his release... it's like, you can't just switch off the trauma that easy
.
I don't know what the solution is, but I think we need to be louder about this. We need to hold those in power accountable for their actions and make sure that freedom and human dignity are actually valued
. It's not too much to ask, right? The fact that Abu Srour is still seeking a home where he can write without fear of persecution is just... *sigh*
. I hope we can do better, you know?
