Ukraine says peace talks 'will take place in the coming days'

Ukraine Hints at Peace Talks in Coming Days Amid Ongoing War with Russia

Kyiv and London - Ukraine's Office of the President announced Saturday that "consultations on steps to end the war will take place in the coming days" as a U.S.-proposed plan to bring an end to Russia's nearly four-year conflict with Ukraine begins to gain momentum.

According to the president's office, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has approved the composition of the Ukrainian delegation and directives for relevant talks, paving the way for constructive dialogue. The statement also expressed Ukraine's commitment to achieving a dignified peace, stating that "Ukraine never wanted this war" and will make every effort to end it.

In related news, a U.S. official confirmed Saturday that a U.S. delegation, including Secretary of Defense Daniel P. Driscoll and Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George, met with Zelenskyy on Thursday to discuss "a collaborative plan to achieve peace in Ukraine." The U.S. military officials are the most senior delegation to visit Ukraine since President Donald Trump took office in January.

As the peace talks progress, a Ukrainian official described the proposed U.S. plan as a comprehensive effort to end the war, but also warned that it includes several "maximalist demands" from Russia's perspective. These demands include significant territorial concessions and restrictions on Ukraine's military capabilities.

The upcoming peace negotiations come amid ongoing violence in eastern Ukraine, where Russian-backed separatists have been battling Ukrainian forces for nearly eight years. Moscow has not agreed to a ceasefire, instead continuing to advance on the front lines and bombarding Ukrainian cities.

A U.S. delegation, including Driscoll, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and envoy Steve Witkoff, is set to meet with Zelenskyy in Geneva, Switzerland, alongside a Ukrainian delegation. There are also plans for the U.S. delegation to hold separate meetings with Russian officials, although details remain unclear.

As the world watches Ukraine's efforts to secure peace, President Zelensky has reiterated his commitment to finding a negotiated solution that prioritizes the safety and security of the Ukrainian people. With the peace talks on the horizon, the international community is holding its breath in anticipation of a breakthrough that could bring an end to the devastating conflict.

I'm hoping these talks actually happen 😊, it's been ages since there was any real progress on ending this war. I think Ukraine has every right to want some concessions from Russia, especially after what they've done πŸ€•, but at the same time, we can't just ignore the fact that innocent people are still caught in the middle of all this πŸ’”.

I'm not sure about these "maximalist demands" tho... like, what even is that? Sounds like a bunch of bureaucratic mumbo-jumbo to me πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. Can't we just focus on finding a way for everyone to coexist peacefully? I mean, it's not rocket science, right? πŸš€

I'm really hoping these talks go smoothly and actually lead somewhere positive πŸ’ͺ. We need a break from all the bloodshed and fear 😨. Fingers crossed! 🀞

🀞 Fingers crossed for Ukraine's sake πŸ™. This whole war thing has been dragging on for ages & it's time for some serious talkin' πŸ—£οΈ. I mean, 4 years is like, forever! πŸ•°οΈ. Can't wait to see what those talks in Geneva bring πŸš‚. Hope they can sort out the territorial stuff & not leave Ukraine feelin' like they're bein' strangled 😩. But at least it's a start, right? πŸ’¬

Might be time for Russia to put down their guns 🀞, been going on for ages now. Zelensky's right, Ukraine never wanted this war πŸ’”. Hope these talks lead somewhere good, not just some empty promises πŸ€‘. But gotta wonder what those "maximalist demands" from Russia really mean... sounds like they're trying to get the best of it πŸ˜’. Fingers crossed for a peaceful resolution and an end to all the suffering πŸ’•.

🀞 I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Ukraine! It's been ages since there's been any good news about this war πŸ•ŠοΈ. If these peace talks actually happen, it'll be a huge deal. Russia's been doing some crazy stuff over here, and the thought of them backing down is a welcome change πŸ€”. I'm not holding my breath or anything, but it's definitely better to have hope than nothing 😊. The U.S.'s involvement is a good sign too – they've been super vocal about this whole thing, so maybe their presence will help keep things moving forward πŸš€. Fingers crossed for a peaceful resolution and an end to all the suffering in Ukraine πŸ’”!

I'm really hoping that these peace talks actually lead to something tangible. It's been going on for so long already and it feels like we're just seeing the same old patterns play out. I mean, Ukraine has been saying they never wanted this war, but it's hard to feel like anyone is taking their side when you're still getting bombed and shelled every other day. The U.S. plan sounds ambitious, but those maximalist demands from Russia are gonna be tough to negotiate around. And what about the territorial concessions? I don't know how Ukraine can just give up parts of their country without knowing exactly what's in it for them. We need some real progress here, not just a bunch of words and empty promises. Fingers crossed that Geneva turns out to be more than just a PR stunt 🀞

omg u think its gonna happen 🀞 like really? peacetalks r not gonna b easy tho, russian demands r pretty maximalist 8/10 lol ukrainians gotta fight fer ther homeland 🌎 dont wanna see any of that land goin to russia 🚫 but i guess zelensky is tryna be diplomatic 🀝 anywayz cant wait to c how dis all playz out πŸ“ΊπŸ‘€

Yooo, just read this news about Ukraine & Russia being like "let's talk peacelol" 🀞 I'm all for it, gotta get some resolution on this war ASAP πŸ’ͺ But at the same time, it's crazy how both sides have these "maximalist demands" 🀯 Like, can't they just meet in the middle? πŸ€” Russia wants territorial concessions & Ukraine doesn't want to give up its sovereignty 🀝 Meanwhile, Ukraine is like "I wanna make sure we're safe and secure" πŸ’• I guess we'll just have to wait & see how this all plays out 🎬 Fingers crossed for a good outcome! πŸ€žπŸ‘

πŸ’” another day, another war πŸŒͺ️ ukraine's peace talks are just around the corner... sounds good and all, but what about the innocent people caught in the crossfire? πŸ€• they're still living in constant fear of their lives, with no guarantee of safety or security. πŸ’₯ meanwhile, russian-backed separatists are still fighting for control, and moscow's just keeping on bombing away 🚨 the numbers keep piling up - thousands dead, millions displaced... it's a never-ending nightmare 😩

πŸ€” I'm kinda hoping they actually do get some progress out of these talks, it's been ages since there was any real movement πŸ•°οΈ. I mean, Ukraine's already been through so much, losing so many people and whatnot... 🌟 it'd be great to see them finally start getting somewhere on finding a peaceful resolution πŸ’‘. But at the same time, those maximalist demands from Russia are kinda worrying 😬. Not sure how that's gonna shake out, but fingers crossed they can find common ground πŸ’•.

🀞 My thoughts on this are that it's about time for both sides to sit down and talk πŸ“. I mean, four years of war is just too long πŸ’”. I'm glad Ukraine is pushing for peace and wants to find a solution that works for everyone πŸ™. But at the same time, I think Russia should be willing to listen and compromise too πŸ‘Š. It's gonna be interesting to see how this all plays out, especially with the US delegation meeting with both Ukrainian and Russian officials 🀝. Fingers crossed it leads to a peaceful resolution πŸ’ͺ

I'm not sure if I think this is a good idea... I mean, what's the hurry? We're just gonna rush into these peace talks and hope everything works out? πŸ€”

On one hand, it's about time we try to find a way out of this mess, right? Ukraine's been fighting for years, and innocent people are getting hurt. But on the other hand... what if Russia doesn't budge? What if they just use these talks as an excuse to keep pushing their own agenda?

I don't know, maybe I'm being too cautious. Maybe we should just take a chance and see what happens. 🀞 But at the same time... shouldn't we be thinking about the potential risks here? Shouldn't we be making sure that Ukraine's got its own interests represented?

Ugh, my mind is all over the place now πŸ˜‚. I think I need to calm down and focus on one thing at a time.

I'm not sure about these new-fangled peace talks... I mean, we used to think war was a part of life, you know? Like, back in my day, if there was a problem, we'd just... fix it with our fists or negotiate some deal. Nowadays, everyone's so caught up on diplomacy and whatnot... it's like, can't we just talk it out?

I'm worried about these maximalist demands from Russia too... I mean, what's the point of giving in to all that territory stuff? It's like, they're just trying to regain control or something. And the military capabilities thing? That's just gonna make things worse.

But hey, at least we're talking about it now, right? Maybe this peace talk thing will actually work... but I'm still keeping my powder dry, just in case
