A mysterious odor has been reported in various areas of Houston, and officials have now confirmed that it was likely caused by a fire at a tire warehouse in Channelview on Sunday morning.
According to the Houston Fire Department, crews had been working on a blaze at a tire storage facility located near East Freeway around 2 a.m. last weekend. While the fire itself appears to be under control and no injuries have been reported so far, officials are still investigating its cause.
The Harris County Fire Marshal's Office initially suggested that the odor could be connected to the fire, as strong winds carried the smoke towards the city. Since then, officials with the HFD have said they had not yet pinpointed a specific source for the smell.

At least it's not like it's a surprise or anything, Houston is basically known for its industrial smog. And of course, strong winds had to be involved because that never gets old

I wonder if it was that new fireproof material that some companies started using in their warehouses or something? my friend's brother works in a warehouse and he always talks about how weird the chemicals are they use there...idk maybe that has nothing to do with it though

i was literally thinking about the strange smell in houston yesterday and now it turns out its from a fire at a tire warehouse lol can you imagine walking around channelview not knowing why the air smells like old tires? 
! I mean, have you ever stopped to think about how amazing it is that we can watch these incredible displays from our screens? It's like, we're all just sitting there on our couches, sipping our lattes, and suddenly we're transported to another world. And yeah, I guess this weird smell in Houston might be a bit of a bummer 
It's kinda weird that no one got hurt, though - fingers crossed that everyone is okay and that the source of the fire gets figured out soon. 
it's crazy how a small fire can spread its nasty aroma all over the city like a bad cloud...I'm glad no one got hurt, but seriously who has a warehouse full of burning tires just chillin' on Sunday morning? 
I mean, was there anyone inside who could've potentially started the fire? And what about those strong winds that carried the smoke into Houston? Did they get caught in any weird wind currents or something? The investigation better be thorough, you know?

! It's pretty suspicious that the fire was just a random accident and not, say, arson or some other deliberate act. I mean, come on, a tire warehouse? How convenient that it just so happens to be near East Freeway... and now there's this mysterious smell in Houston. I'm not saying it's definitely a conspiracy theory or anything (cough), but the lack of information from HFD is kinda weird. Shouldn't they have said "oh, it was clearly arson" if that were the case? Nah, instead we get all vague and stuff. 
. The fact that HFD is working with OEM on this, though, shows how coordinated they are
