A mysterious odor has been reported in various areas of Houston, and officials have now confirmed that it was likely caused by a fire at a tire warehouse in Channelview on Sunday morning.
According to the Houston Fire Department, crews had been working on a blaze at a tire storage facility located near East Freeway around 2 a.m. last weekend. While the fire itself appears to be under control and no injuries have been reported so far, officials are still investigating its cause.
The Harris County Fire Marshal's Office initially suggested that the odor could be connected to the fire, as strong winds carried the smoke towards the city. Since then, officials with the HFD have said they had not yet pinpointed a specific source for the smell.
HFD released an update on their X social media account, stating that they were working in collaboration with the Houston Office of Emergency Management to determine the cause of the fire.
