UPS grounds MD-11 fleet indefinitely after doomed Kentucky cargo plane crash killed 14

US Cargo Carrier Grounds Entire MD-11 Fleet Amid Ongoing Investigation into Deadly Crash

A devastating plane crash in Kentucky has led to a major overhaul for UPS Airlines, with the company grounding its entire fleet of McDonnell Douglas MD-11 aircraft indefinitely until further notice. The tragic incident, which occurred on November 4th, claimed the lives of 14 people, including all three crew members and 11 individuals on the ground.

According to airline president Bill Moore, the decision was made due to ongoing concerns regarding the safety of the aircraft following a comprehensive evaluation by Boeing. Inspections and potential repairs will now be more extensive than initially anticipated, requiring several months to complete.

In an effort to minimize disruption, UPS has put in place contingency plans to maintain delivery operations, ensuring that cargo continues to move across the country despite the grounding.

The MD-11 fleet was initially suspended after one of its aircraft, a 1991-built plane recently serviced, erupted into flames shortly after taking off from Louisville's Muhammad Ali International Airport. The dramatic scene revealed the moment when the engine exploded, leaving a trail of fire and wreckage in its wake.

An investigation into the crash is still ongoing, with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) working to piece together what led to the tragic event.

I'm so shocked by this news! I mean, 14 people lost their lives in that plane crash? It's just heartbreaking 🤕. And now UPS is grounding all its MD-11s until they can fix whatever is wrong with them? That's a huge blow to the economy and everyone who relies on those flights.

I've seen ads for the MD-11 before, like when I was watching music videos back in 2010, but never thought it would be grounded. And I remember seeing those planes take off from LAX in movies, wow! It just goes to show how much we take air travel for granted these days 😔.

I hope they can get this sorted out soon and the investigation is thorough, you know? The NTSB has got this 🙏.

OMG 🤯 this is so shocking! I mean, 14 people lost their lives... it's just heartbreaking 💔. Grounding an entire fleet of planes? That's a huge deal for any company, especially one that relies on reliable transportation like UPS. I hope the investigation finds out what went wrong ASAP and fixes the issue ASAP too 🕰️.

It's crazy how one incident can bring about so much change... like, they're putting in extra checks and repairs now? That'll be a huge investment of time and resources 💸. And I get it, safety first, but can't you just find a way to make it work with the existing fleet for a bit longer? 🤷‍♀️. Anyway, fingers crossed for all those affected and their loved ones ❤️.

I'M SO CONCERNED ABOUT THIS PLANE CRASH!!! IT'S JUST SO SAD FOR THE PEOPLE WHO LOST THEIR LIVES AND FOR THEIR FAMILIES 😔💔. I MEAN, I KNOW WE CAN'T ALWAYS EXPECT AIRCRAFT TO BE 100% SAFE, BUT COME ON, 14 PEOPLE IS WAY TOO MANY 🤯! AND NOW UPS IS GROUNDING ALL ITS MD-11 FLEETS UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE? THAT'S JUST GOING TO CAUSE A LOT OF DELAYS FOR SHIPMENTS AND WHATNOT... IT'S LIKE, I GET THE SAFETY FIRST THING, BUT CAN'T WE FIND A WAY TO FIX THESE PROBLEMS WITHOUT GROUNDING ENTIRE FLEETS? 🤔💸

I just can't believe what's going on with these planes!!! 🤯 I mean, 14 people died in that crash and now they're grounding all the MD-11s?! That's crazy talk! What if it happens again? 😱 We need more safety checks, for real. And why did this happen to UPS Airlines?! They've been flying those planes for years without any issues... I'm just worried about everyone who works there, that's all. 🤞

I'M SO CONCERNED ABOUT THIS NEWS!!! 😱 A plane crash that took 14 lives, including 3 crew members and 11 people on the ground is just heartbreaking. I can only imagine how devastating it must be for the families of the victims and the UPS employees who are now dealing with this crisis.

It's good to know that UPS has a plan in place to minimize disruption to their delivery operations, but still, I feel so sorry for all those affected by this tragedy. It's just not fair when something like this happens! The fact that the investigation is ongoing and that the NTSB is working hard to get to the bottom of it gives me some hope.

I do wonder what could have caused such a disaster, though... was it human error? Mechanical failure? Whatever the reason, I just hope that those responsible are held accountable.

omg this is so crazy whats going on with these planes?! they should've caught those safety issues like 10 yrs ago... its all about cost cutting and putting people lives at risk i dont get it 😡 how are they even gonna fix the problem in a few months?? that seems like too short of time 🕰️ ugh just thinking about it is giving me anxiety cant believe ppl lost their lives over this 💔

omg this is so worrying... i was on a flight last month where that plane flew overhead 🚨💺 and i have no idea if it's safe or not 🤔 also, why didnt they catch the issue before? like, one of the planes erupted into flames and now 14 people are gone 😭😢 it just doesnt make sense.

🤔 I'm not buying this... one plane went down, but suddenly the whole fleet gets grounded? That's just too convenient for Boeing, don't you think? 🤑 They're probably trying to push out the MD-11s and sell more of their newer planes. And what about the inspection process? "Several months to complete"? How long is several months again? We need some solid numbers on that timeline before I believe this grounding is anything more than a PR stunt 😏.

And have they released any data on the cause of the crash itself? Just a bunch of vague statements from UPS and Boeing... where's the transparency, folks? 📰 We deserve to know what happened and how it could happen again. Until we get some hard facts, I'll be keeping a healthy dose of skepticism about this whole thing 😐.
