Villa, Lyon reach Europa League last 16 as Forest stumble in Braga loss

Aston Villa secured a crucial victory over Fenerbahce to reach the last 16 of the Europa League, while Nottingham Forest's dismal display saw them fall to Braga, casting doubt on their qualification hopes.

Villa's Jadon Sancho scored the only goal midway through the first half in Istanbul, giving his team a vital win that clinched a spot among the top eight. The victory marked Aston Villa's sixth triumph in seven European games and ensured they bypassed the knockout phase play-offs.

"We're just happy to get my first goal for Aston Villa and to top it off with that, it's a win," Sancho said in the post-match interview. "I'm very hard on myself... I know I can do a lot more. My manager backs me, and obviously believes in me."

Villa are second in the standings on 18 points, trailing only Lyon by goal difference.

On the other hand, Nottingham Forest's defeat to Braga was a costly one, with the Brazilian side moving up to fifth place. Morgan Gibbs-White had a penalty saved, but Villa's captain Ryan Yates bundled into his own net, handing Forest's hopes of qualification over to chance.

"We've given ourselves a chance – that's all, a chance – of qualifying," said Forest manager Sean Dyche. "My own view is that if we had stayed with 11 men, I think we would have won the game."

Celtic and Rangers also suffered significant setbacks in their quest for qualification. Celtic blew a two-goal lead against Bologna to draw 2-2, while arch-rivals Rangers were eliminated despite their 1-0 victory over Ludogorets.

Roma sealed a spot among the last 16 with a 2-0 win over Stuttgart, their fourth consecutive Europa League triumph.

omg u gotta love sancho's post match interview πŸ˜‚ he's so humble and already looking for ways to improve himself! like he's not satisfied w/ just scoring a goal πŸ€”. but honestly, villa's performance in the europa league has been amazing this season πŸ™Œ and 2nd place is still a great achievement considering they're trailing lyon by goal difference πŸ’ͺ

πŸ€” I'm watching how Villa's Jadon Sancho is being super humble about his goal πŸ™. He knows he can do more and that's awesome! It's all about learning from our mistakes, right? πŸ’‘ When we fail (and we will), it's not the end of the world... it's just a new chance to try again 😊. That's what I take away from Sancho's comment - self-awareness is key! And on the other hand, Nottingham Forest's manager Sean Dyche saying they're 'just giving themselves a chance' 🀞 makes me think about how we can be more positive about our own situations too... instead of focusing on what's not going right 😊. We gotta keep pushing forward and believe in ourselves πŸ’ͺ! πŸ‘

just got out of a yoga class and now im thinking about all these european football results... Aston villa's sancho is literally my spirit animal lol πŸ€£πŸ† he's always pushing himself to be better. but ugh, nottingham forest is just so underwhelming right now πŸ˜” i mean, they had chances to qualify for europa league and they blew it. braga's move up 5th tho is pretty cool, i guess that means they're gonna give villa a run for their money in the next round πŸ’ͺ🏼

😊 u gotta feel for Villa, they played so well in Istanbul and got that crucial win, now they're one step closer to making it outta this competition πŸ’ͺ Sancho's goal was the game changer, and it's awesome to see him finally get on the board πŸŽ‰ Villa's been doing great in Europe this season, maybe they can carry that momentum into their next match πŸ”₯

πŸ˜’ those teams that aren't doing well in europa league are making it hard for themselves... like nottingham forest's manager sean dyche is saying they gave themselves a chance of qualifying lol what a cop out πŸ™„

omg u guys cant believe how good villa r doin this season πŸ‘€πŸ”₯ they've got some serious momentum goin on and that sancho is killin it on the pitch 🎯 i love how humble he is too, always talkin about how hard he's gotta push himself to improve πŸ’ͺ his manager seems like a total boss too, backing him all the way πŸ‘Š anyway back 2 forest... they really let this one slip thru their fingers πŸ˜” braga got lucky w/ that penalty save and villa just capitalized on it πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ guess u cant win 'em all... πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ

OMG, what a drama in the Europa League 🀯! Aston Villa just sealed a spot among the top eight and I'm super stoked for them πŸŽ‰! Jadon Sancho scored that sick goal to give his team the win and now they're hot on Lyon's heels πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ. But, sorry to say, Nottingham Forest are in trouble 😬... their defeat to Braga really cast doubt on their qualification hopes πŸ’”. Meanwhile, Roma is on fire πŸ”₯, winning their 4th consecutive Europa League game! Celtic and Rangers though? Not so lucky 😭. Can't wait for the next round of games πŸ†! #AstonVillaForTheWin #EuropaLeague #SanchoSavesTheDay πŸ’ͺ

omg u guys cant believe villa made it to last 16!!! 😍 i mean jadon sancho scored that one goal and now villa is 2nd in standings πŸ“ˆ they played so well against fenerbahce. nottingham forest tho... 😳 whats goin on w/ them? braga got the win and now theyre fifth. cant see forest makin' it to last 16 rn πŸ€”

πŸ† What's up with Villa & Forest? It feels like they're always on opposite sides of the results table! Sancho gets his first goal for Villa and they're cruising to the next round, but then Forest goes and loses to Braga. Guess you can't count them out just yet... πŸ’ͺ That Roma win is huge tho, they're looking solid in the Europa League. And sorry Rangers, I know how much that 1-0 win meant! πŸ˜” Still, it's all about who makes it to the next round now πŸ‘€

πŸŒ±πŸ’†β€β™€οΈ just saw that Aston Villa won against Fenerbahce and I'm so stoked for them! Jadon Sancho scored that one goal and now they're in the last 16 of the Europa League πŸŽ‰. Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest is like... what happened to those guys? πŸ˜‚ They got crushed by Braga and now their qualification hopes are kinda shaky πŸ’”. But hey, at least Sean Dyche is staying positive about it 😊. And Roma's winning streak is on fire πŸ”₯! Can't wait to see what happens next in the Europa League 🀞

I'm loving how Aston Villa is killing it in the Europa League right now 🀩! Sancho's goal was pure magic πŸ’« and that win for Villa has given them the boost they needed to reach the last 16. On the other hand, Nottingham Forest are looking a bit dodgy after that draw with Braga - I'm not sure if they can turn their season around now πŸ€”. And on the bright side, Celtic and Rangers aren't out of it just yet, so there's still hope for them 🌟! Roma's been on fire this competition, though - 4 wins in a row? That's some serious form πŸ”₯

Wow 🀩 Aston Villa is absolutely killing it in the Europa League right now! They're on fire and I love Jadon Sancho's determination to improve πŸ’ͺ. Not sure what happened to Nottingham Forest though, they just seem to be losing momentum lately 😐. Celtic blowing a two-goal lead? Ouch that stings πŸ€•, hope they can bounce back from this one! Roma is looking strong too, gotta be careful not to underestimate the competition πŸ”₯

OMG 🀩 just saw Aston Villa's epic win against Fenerbahce! Jadon Sancho's goal was SICK 😲 and it's amazing how Villa has bounced back from that tough start to the season πŸ’ͺ. They're doing so well, second in the standings now πŸ“ˆ and looking strong for qualification. My heart goes out to Nottingham Forest though, they've worked so hard but it just didn't go their way πŸ˜”. Can only wish them all the best! πŸ’•

πŸ€” Aston Villa's Jadon Sancho is like the ultimate underdog 🦊! He scores that winning goal and suddenly everyone's talking about him πŸ’¬. I mean, it's awesome for the team that they made it to the last 16 without any drama...unlike Nottingham Forest πŸ˜…. What's going on with Forest? One minute they're top of the group, next they're on life support πŸš‘. Roma is doing well, though! Four straight wins in Europe? That's some serious bragging rights πŸ’ͺ. And Celtic and Rangers are already out? Ouch, those were big surprises 😳.

Ugh, Villa's layout is so much better than Forest's, you know? πŸ€” They're all about clean lines and minimal whitespace, while Forest looks like it was thrown together by a madman πŸ˜‚. And don't even get me started on the font choices... Villa uses this sleek sans-serif that just looks so modern and professional, whereas Forest has this weird mix of serif and sans that's just jarring. 🚫 Anyway, gotta give credit to Aston Villa for pulling off that win – their layout is on point πŸ‘

OMG lol what's goin on with Villa!!! They're killin' it in that league 🀩 and Sancho is gettin his goals πŸ’ͺ! I mean, I know he's still gotta work hard but comin through for the team like this is everything 😍. And sorry not sorry to Nottingham Forest πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ, gotta keep hatin on those loses πŸ’”. Villa is where it's at and they're gonna make a deep run in that Europa League! πŸ’₯

πŸ†πŸ’₯ Aston Villa's win is a HUGE boost for their qualification hopes 🀞πŸ’ͺ! They played amazing football in Istanbul and deservedly got that crucial goal ⚽️ from Jadon Sancho πŸ’₯. Now they're second in the standings, just one point behind Lyon πŸ‘€. Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest are left wondering what could've been πŸ˜”... they had chances to win but let them slip away πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. On a different note, Roma's 4th consecutive Europa League triumph is pure class πŸ™Œ! They're looking strong for the last 16 ⚽️πŸ’ͺ
