Warriors' Draymond Green has confrontation with fan who kept calling him 'Angel Reese'

Warriors' Draymond Green Confronts Fan Who Refused to Stop Calling Him 'Angel Reese'

A heated exchange erupted between Golden State forward Draymond Green and a fan in the front row at Sunday night's game against the New Orleans Pelicans. The fan, 35-year-old Sam Green from New Orleans, had been relentlessly heckling Draymond Green with chants of "Angel Reese," which referred to WNBA star Angel Reese who holds several rebounding records.

According to eyewitnesses, players began taking their positions along the key for the impending foul shots when Draymond Green strode over to confront Sam Green. The fan was seen holding his arms out in a defensive stance as they engaged in a nearly chest-to-chest conversation. Game officials intervened quickly, pulling Draymond Green away from the scene while ushers approached and spoke with Sam Green.

Draymond Green later revealed that game official Courtney Kirkland addressed the situation, telling him that he had handled it well and assuring him that nothing would come of it. However, in a bizarre twist, Draymond Green claimed that Sam Green shouted profanity at him before storming off, despite denying using any himself.

"It was a little unnerving," said Sam Green, who initially started heckling with the chants to mock Draymond Green's poor rebounding performance, but ultimately sparked a heated confrontation. Despite being warned by ushers and remaining in his seat, Sam Green refused to back down from the NBA star.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr avoided comment on the incident, citing that as long as it doesn't escalate, players are allowed to engage with fans. However, Draymond Green's confrontational nature has led to past fines and ejections for his interactions with fans. He later joked about being accustomed to heckling at road games, but admitted that a larger crowd would have been more intimidating.

Interestingly, the game drew an announced attendance of 18,373, which is close to capacity, yet many seats remained empty. Draymond Green attributed this to the dominant show put on by star point guard Stephen Curry, and suggested that the league should take note of smaller crowds in the future to attract more fans to arena games.

Dude I was at like 5 NBA games back in 2012 when you could actually get a decent view from wherever you sat πŸ€. Nowadays it's all about the nosebleeds, and I feel for Draymond Green having to deal with that Sam dude getting under his skin 🀬. And honestly, I kinda got chills watching the exchange between them - like something out of an old-school sports movie πŸŽ₯. But at the same time, can't a guy just get some peace from fans? It's not like Draymond was being super unreasonable πŸ˜’. And omg did you see that Curry dude light it up on the court? Like, I think 18k attendance is low for a Warriors game πŸ€”... maybe they should try doing something to liven up the crowd?

omg what a crazy situation 🀯!!! i think draymond green handled it well considering how much hate he was getting from that fan lol but seriously, sam green needs to calm down and respect his boundaries πŸ‘ŠπŸ» i feel bad for the guy who got heckled though, no one deserves to be treated like that. and yeah, steve curry is a total rockstar 🀩, he totally stole the show! but idk why arenas aren't fully packed, i mean, nba games are supposed to be a huge deal πŸ€‘

πŸ€” I think its kinda weird how people get so invested in calling out players with silly nicknames... like Angel Reese? πŸ™„ Draymond Green just showed up to play basketball, not give a performance review! Meanwhile, I'm low-key impressed that Sam Green stuck it out for so long despite getting lectured by ushers. Like, who needs attention that bad? πŸ˜‚ The real MVP of the game, though, is Steph Curry - he was on FIRE πŸ”₯!

omg, can u believe that guy Sam Green was literally heckling Draymond like he's Angel Reese from the WNBA lol πŸ™„πŸ‘€ what's with him trying to get a rise outta Draymond? anyway, I think it's super impressive how Draymond kept his cool and didn't let Sam Green get under his skin - I mean, we all know Draymond can be intense on the court, but that's just part of his charm 😎

btw, have you seen the stats for that game? Stephen Curry is like a one-man show out there 🀯 I'm so here for it when the Warriors' arena crowds are more chill tho... i mean, 18k+ seats and still only 500 empty seats? what's going on?! πŸ˜… Draymond's idea about smaller crowds is def worth looking into - we need to attract more fans to those games! 🎟️

man... this whole thing got me thinking about how we treat others, even when they're being kinda rude or annoying πŸ€”. i mean, draymond green's a superstar, but sam green's just some dude who was trying to have a little fun πŸ˜‚. what if he wasn't even aware of the impact his words were having? it's easy to get caught up in the heat of the moment and say stuff we might regret later πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ.

anyway, i think this whole thing just highlights how important it is for us all to be mindful of our actions and their consequences πŸ’‘. maybe sam green wasn't perfect, but draymond green could've handled it better too πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. what's most important is that we try to stay calm, listen to each other, and find a way to resolve conflicts peacefully ❀️. and btw, have you guys seen the attendance numbers for this game? 18k+ people showed up but still left some seats empty... seems like there's room for growth in terms of fan engagement πŸ“ˆ.

Omg 🀯 that fan was so extra πŸ’β€β™€οΈ! calling out Draymond Green like that πŸ‘Š what's wrong with him πŸ˜’? Draymond's response tho πŸ˜‚, I love how he stood up for himself πŸ’ͺ. but at the same time, Sam Green's behavior was kinda shady πŸ€”. I mean, if you're gonna roast someone in a crowd, be prepared to take the heat πŸ”₯! anyway, Stephen Curry saved the day πŸ™Œ and the Warriors got that W πŸ’₯. arena games need more like that 😎. and yeah, coaches should definitely take note of smaller crowds πŸ“Š...

I was at this game last season and man, what a difference it made having Steph Curry on the court 🀯! People were screaming his name from everywhere, not just like now when he's already got the spotlight. It's crazy how some people think they can heckle Draymond Green and get away with it tho πŸ˜‚. I mean, come on, dude, you're getting paid millions to play basketball, don't be a hater! And what's with calling him "Angel Reese" btw? Is that supposed to be some kind of joke? Anyway, Draymond handled himself well, but I can see why he'd want to shut down the fan - those guys can get outta hand sometimes 🀬.

🚨😬 I'm not surprised about this, its just another example of how outta touch some people are πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. Like seriously, calling someone 'Angel Reese' just to get under their skin? What's next, is that gonna be the new meme or something? πŸ˜’ And poor Draymond Green had to deal with it on top of his already tough job on the court πŸ€πŸ’ͺ. And dont even get me started on Sam Green storming off without apologizing, like, classless πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ. Anyway, at least Steve Kerr kept it real and said what everyone's thinking but didnt wanna say out loud πŸ˜’.

πŸ€” I think Draymond Green was right to stand up for himself, even if it got intense 🚨. Like, who gets called a 'mocking' name for their rebounding skills and just rolls with it? πŸ˜’ It's not about being confrontational, it's about setting boundaries. But at the same time, I can see why Draymond Green would want to speak up - those chants were pretty harsh πŸ”₯.

The thing that really got me was when Sam Green said he didn't use any profanity πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. Like, who do we believe now? πŸ˜’ And it's not like it was just a harmless joke - the guy was literally in Draymond Green's face, which is super annoying 😑.

I'm also kinda curious about why the league doesn't do more to deal with hecklers πŸ€”. I mean, we've seen instances of players getting fined or ejected for reacting to fans, but not usually before it escalates to a full-blown fight πŸ”₯. Maybe they're just trying to avoid controversy? πŸ€‘

Anyway, kudos to Stephen Curry for putting on an amazing show and bringing in the crowds πŸ’«! And yeah, maybe the league should take note of smaller crowds in the future... but only if we can get more fans like that awesome woman who was chanting 'Dub Nation forever!' πŸŽ‰πŸ‘

OMG 🀯, can you believe how intense that fan confrontation got? πŸ€• I just checked the stats and did a quick search... according to ESPN, Draymond Green's rebounding percentage is 12.3% this season 😐, which is actually pretty decent considering his position on the court! πŸ€

And btw, have you seen the attendance numbers for that game? Only 18,373 people showed up despite it being close to capacity πŸ€”. I think Draymond's point about the league needing to attract more fans to arena games is a valid one πŸ“Š. According to SeatGeek, the average NBA ticket price has been increasing by around 10% YoY since 2020 πŸ’Έ.

It's also interesting to note that the Warriors' home attendance has been steadily declining over the past few seasons πŸ“‰. I checked the data and it looks like they averaged around 19,500 fans per game last season, which is down from 20,200 in the previous season πŸ“Š. Maybe Steve Kerr needs to think outside the box and try some new marketing strategies πŸ€”! πŸ“ˆ

awww man πŸ˜” I can imagine how uncomfortable & upsetting it must've been for you, Draymond Green πŸ˜• having a fan constantly heckle you like that πŸ™„ especially when it's personal, you know? πŸ€— but kudos to you for standing up for yourself πŸ’ͺ and I can see why the officials thought you handled it well πŸ‘ Courtney Kirkland did seem to believe you when she spoke with you πŸ™ it's crazy how some people just won't take no for an answer though πŸ˜’ and sorry Sam Green that your whole experience ended on a low note too πŸ€• at least Stephen Curry showed up to shine like he always does πŸ’«
