We can't let the Tories sabotage this once-in-a-generation chance to reshape the world of work | Angela Rayner

Labour Must Stand Firm on Employment Rights Bill Amid Tory Sabotage Efforts

The government's employment rights bill, which aims to provide basic protections and security for millions of workers, has faced intense criticism from the Tories. But as Labour MPs prepare to vote on the bill, party leader Angela Rayner is urging her colleagues to stand firm against attempts to water down its provisions.

Rayner, a former care worker who knows firsthand the struggles of precarious employment, argues that this legislation represents a once-in-a-generation chance to reshape the world of work. The package of measures includes protections from unfair dismissal, strengthened sick pay, and a ban on zero-hours contracts, among other key reforms.

However, the Tories have been relentless in their efforts to undermine the bill. Un-elected Tory lords have inserted amendments that would weaken the legislation, while vested interests have launched a fierce lobbying campaign against it. Rayner accuses the Tories of resisting progress on employment rights every time they've made an effort over the past 45 years.

"This is not just about fulfilling a manifesto commitment – it's about fixing a broken model," Rayner says. "We know that treating workers with respect and dignity is essential for success, not just for businesses but for individuals as well."

The impact of the bill would be felt across the country, benefiting millions of workers who currently lack basic protections. Pregnant women and mothers would enjoy new maternity protections, while fathers and partners would benefit from paternity leave. Millions more would receive a decent wage, secure work, and flexible working arrangements.

Rayner is calling on her Labour MPs to stand firm against the Tory attempts to sabotage the bill. "We must resist these efforts and deliver the promise we made to the British public," she says. The fate of the employment rights bill hangs in the balance as Labour MPs vote today – will they let the Tories undermine their hard-won gains, or will they push forward with a bill that would make a real difference to millions of workers?

I think its so frustrating when the goverment is just gonna try and screw over workers rights lol 😩. Like, I get it, theres vested interests trying to pull the strings but come on, treating people with respect & dignity shouldnt be that hard, right? πŸ‘Š especially for pregnant women & new parents, they need that extra support. And decent wages are a must, everyone deserves a fair day's pay for a fair day's work! πŸ’Έ

I'm low-key impressed by Angela Rayner's determination on this one 🀩πŸ’ͺ. It's not easy to stand up against an opposition party trying to sabotage your own policies, but she seems like she's got her heart in the right place ❀️. The fact that she's coming from a personal experience as a care worker really adds weight to her arguments πŸ‘. I hope Labour MPs can stay strong and resist those Tory amendments 🚫. It's about time we start treating workers with some respect and dignity, you know? πŸ’ΌπŸ˜Š

I'm getting a bit worried about this employment rights bill πŸ€”. It sounds like the Tories are being really unreasonable and trying to water down what's supposed to be a good thing for workers πŸ™„. I mean, shouldn't we want to protect people from unfair dismissal and make sure they get paid when they're sick? It seems like common sense to me πŸ‘Œ. Angela Rayner is right that this is a chance to fix some big problems in the way work is done, but it's annoying that the Tories are being so obstructive 🚫. I hope Labour MPs do what's right and stand firm on this one πŸ’ͺ.

The Tories are really testing Labour's resolve on this one πŸ€”. I think it's great that Angela Rayner is pushing her MPs to stand firm – it shows she's not afraid to take on the big boys and fight for what's right πŸ’ͺ. The fact that they're trying to insert amendments that would weaken the bill is just plain dirty politics πŸ‘€. If Labour can pull this off, it could make a huge difference in people's lives – imagine having decent maternity leave or being able to afford a living wage without working yourself into the ground 🀯. I think most Brits would be on Labour's side on this one πŸ™Œ.

I'm so worried about this πŸ€•. If we just stand by and let them water down the bill because of their petty politics it's gonna be a disaster 😩. We need Labour MPs to stand firm and fight for what they've promised the people πŸ‘Š. I mean, can you imagine if our parents or grandparents had to go through all this? It's not right that we have to still deal with this kind of exploitation in the 21st century 🀯. We need to support our Labour MPs and make them know we're behind them πŸ’ͺ.

I'm thinking about how my mum used to work as a caregiver back in the day and she always talked about how unfair it was for her to get paid less just because she didn't have a traditional 9-to-5 job πŸ€”. It's crazy that even now, there are people out there trying to take away those basic protections πŸ˜’. I think Angela Rayner is totally right on this one - we do need to stand firm and make sure that everyone has access to decent work and benefits πŸ’ͺ. It's not just about the workers either, my partner is a freelancer and they always complain about how unpredictable their income is πŸ“ˆ. If this bill passes, it could be a game-changer for people like them too 🀞. Fingers crossed Labour MPs will do the right thing! πŸ‘

omg u no how frustrating it is 2 see tories tryin 2 sabotage labour's employment rights bill 🀯! like angela rayner is literally right - this bill is our chance 2 reshape the way we work & give ppl decent protections & wages πŸ’Έ. but those toffs in tory lords r tryin 2 water down it & vested interests r launchin a lobbying campain against it πŸ˜’. gotta stand firm with labour & fight 4 what's rite! πŸ’ͺ

πŸ€” I was just thinking about my favorite childhood snack - Pop-Tarts 🍞️... you know, it's crazy how something as simple as a toaster-baked pastry can bring back so many memories. Anyway, back to the employment rights bill thingy... I mean, who needs more work stress when you've got a sweet breakfast like that 😊?

πŸ€” u no whats weird tho? tories always talk about 'helping' small businesses but its all about linein pockets 4 thier mates πŸ€‘ meanwhile rays is like "hey guys we gotta protect ur basic rights as humans" πŸ‘ lol what's the diff btw helping business & helpin people rn?

man this is getting serious... labor's gotta stand firm on this one 🀝. these tory attempts to water down the bill are just laughable. who do they think they're trying to help, their billionaire mates? rayner's right, this legislation would make a real difference to people's lives, especially the vulnerable ones. i'm not surprised by the tories' resistance though, they've been playing dirty since forever πŸ˜’. we need labor to keep pushing forward and delivering on their promises. it's about time workers were treated with respect and dignity, not just some faceless company trying to squeeze every last penny out of them πŸ’Έ

I'm so frustrated with what's going down here 🀯. Like, we've been promised better things by our politicians for ages and it feels like we're getting nowhere fast πŸ™„. This employment rights bill is literally the least we can do for people who are struggling to make ends meet. It's not that hard to give workers some basic protections and security πŸ’ͺ. I'm all for Labour standing firm against Tory sabotage efforts - they need to get their act together if they want to deliver on their promises πŸ™. We can't just sit back and let vested interests dictate what's best for the country, especially when it comes to people's livelihoods 🀝. We need more voices like Angela Rayner who are willing to fight for change πŸ’ͺ. Fingers crossed that Labour MPs will do the right thing today 🀞.

I'm getting really frustrated with these politicians and their games πŸ™„. It's like they're more worried about pleasing their donors than doing what's right for the people. I've seen so many friends struggle with zero-hours contracts and it's just not fair. They say this bill is a once-in-a-generation chance to make a difference, but I think that's just spin 🀑. What's really going on here is that they want to keep things as they are, where workers are at the mercy of their employers.

I know some people will say it's not that black and white, but come on, there's something not right about a system where you can be fired for no reason or have to work yourself to the bone just to get by. We need real change here, not just token gestures 🀝. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Labour will stand firm against these sabotaging efforts, it's time someone stood up for workers' rights πŸ‘.
