"We would be frankly unstoppable”: Trump dances around Greenland threats at Davos

At the World Economic Forum in Davos, US President Donald Trump once again emphasized his interest in acquiring Greenland from Denmark. During a lengthy speech, he described the territory as "a piece of ice" and stated that the US would be "frankly unstoppable" if it decided to take control by force.

However, Trump expressed his desire to avoid any conflict, saying, "I don’t have to use force. I don’t want to use force. I won’t use force." He attributed this stance to pragmatism, stating that the US is merely seeking a place called Greenland and doesn't want to cause unnecessary disruption.

Despite his words, Trump's comments were met with skepticism from some attendees. During his speech, he referred to Greenland as Iceland at one point, sparking confusion among the audience. The US stock market took a significant hit in response to Trump's earlier threat of tariffs on European countries over the issue, with the S&P 500 dropping just under 2% and shedding over $750 billion in wealth.

California Governor Gavin Newsom, who attended the event, characterized Trump's speech as "boring" and deemed it "remarkably insignificant." When asked about the US President's statements regarding Greenland, Newsom emphasized that Denmark has been open to negotiations for a year but failed to deliver results.

I'm kinda surprised by Trump's comments on Greenland 🤔. I mean, who expects the US Prez to be talking about acquiring a whole island? It seems like a pretty big deal, and not just because of the land itself, but also because of the implications for global politics and Denmark's sovereignty 💸.

I think it's weird that Trump is trying to downplay the situation by saying he doesn't want to use force 🙅‍♂️. If the US is really interested in taking control, shouldn't they just be upfront about it? And what's up with the name mix-up - Iceland instead of Greenland? 🤦‍♂️

I'm not sure I buy Newsom's assessment that Trump's speech was "boring" 😴. It seemed pretty intense to me, and I can see why some people would be skeptical about his intentions 👀. It'll be interesting to see how this situation plays out - do you think Denmark will sell out or stand firm? 🤞

I'm low-key surprised by Trump's comments about Greenland 🤔🌎. I mean, who thought it was a good idea to just say you want to take over an entire island? 😂 It's not like Denmark is gonna be all, "Oh, sure thing, take it!" 🙄 The fact that he referred to it as Iceland at one point is wild 🤯... like, what's the diff? 🌊 And those tariffs are just going to hurt European countries even more 💸. I feel like Newsom was spot on when he said Trump's speech was boring and insignificant 😴. Maybe we should focus on actual problems instead of random island acquisitions 🙏.

OMG, dude, I don't get why Trump is making such a big deal out of this? Like, it's just Greenland 🤣, a piece of ice! What's the point of even discussing taking control by force? It's not like they're gonna start paying taxes on ice or something 😂. And what's with the mistake about calling it Iceland? I mean, come on, Trump, get your facts straight! 🙄 And $750 billion in wealth lost over this? That's wild. I'm more worried about the S&P 500 than Greenland, tbh 💸. It's all just a bunch of noise, imo.

OMG u guyz ! 🤯 so trump is still tryna grab greenland like wut ? 😂 he thinks its "a piece of ice" lol what even is that ? 💀 and btw why does he always gotta be so dramatic ? 🙄 "frankly unstoppable"... sounds like something outta a bad action movie 🍿

and calm down dude, u dont wanna start a war... or do u ? 😏 its all about the money, right ? 🤑 usa wants that greenland for some reason and trump is just along for the ride 🚣‍♂️

newsom tho 👀 he's like "yeah, we got this" 💪 denmark can handle itself, no need for trump's ego trip 🙅‍♂️ and btw what's up with trumps geography skills ? 🤦‍♂️ iceland is NOT greenland ! 🌊👎

I'm totally down with Maximalism 🤯. Trump's obsession with acquiring Greenland is like, super weird, you know? Like, what's the big deal about this tiny chunk of ice? It's not like it's going to give him some sort of mystical power or something 😂. And dude, referring to Iceland as Greenland? That's just laughable 🤣. It's like he's trying too hard to prove a point.

But seriously, have you seen the stock market reaction to this guy? 📉 It's like, totally tanking because of his empty threats 💸. And Newsom's just over here like "yawn" 😴, which I can kinda relate to. I mean, who gets excited about Greenland, right? Not me, that's for sure 👋.

I gotta say, I'm a bit surprised by Donald Trump's comments on Greenland... 🤔 It just seems like a weird move, ya know? I mean, who tries to take over an entire island from another country? 😂 And the part where he says "a piece of ice" and becomes "frankly unstoppable" if they use force? C'mon, dude! That's not how diplomacy works... 🤦‍♂️

And what's with him mixing up Iceland with Greenland? Like, come on! That's not exactly subtle... 😳 California Governor Newsom seems like the only one who's being realistic about this whole thing. I mean, Denmark has been open to negotiations for a year and they just didn't deliver... 🤷‍♂️ It's all just a big mess... 😅

🤔 I mean, come on... a "piece of ice"? That's like saying Canada is just a bunch of trees or something 🌲. What even is the logic behind this? And Iceland vs Greenland? Like, what's next? Blurring the lines between Norway and Sweden? 🤣 Anyway, I'm all for diplomatic relations and negotiations, but let's be real, Trump's not exactly known for his diplomacy skills 😒. It's just a whole lot of noise if you ask me. Where are the actual facts or data to back up these claims? Sources, anyone? 📰

Omg, can you even imagine if the US just took control of Greenland like that? 🤯 I was talking to my friends in history class and we were all wondering what would happen if another country just took over a territory from its current owner. It's kinda like when Russia annexed Crimea back in 2014 – it caused so much drama. And Trump's speech at the WEF was pretty wild, especially with that Iceland vs Greenland mix-up 🤪. I mean, Gavin Newsom is right though, Denmark has been trying to negotiate for a year and nothing has come out of it. It's all so confusing! What if this happens in our own country? Would we even know what's going on? 😱

Oh man, this whole Greenland thing is getting out of hand 🤣🌍. I mean, Trump just wants a piece of ice? 😂 Like, what's the deal with that? And he thinks he can just swoop in and take it without anyone even blinking an eye? 😒 Newsom just called his speech boring... that's so underrated 👏. I'm more worried about those tariffs, though - $750 billion is a lot of damage 💸. I don't know why Trump keeps pushing this issue 🤦‍♂️. Greenland's like, totally not worth it 🤷‍♂️. And what's up with the confusion between Iceland and Greenland? 🤔 Like, come on, Trump! 😅

just thinkin, why do ppl care so much about this land? i mean, its just a piece of ice 🤷‍♂️... US stock market gets hit hard tho, $750 billion or whatever that's like what, 10x my entire net worth lol 😅. dunno if trump's serious or not, seems like he's just messin around at this point 🤪. Gavin Newsom thinks trumps speech was boring 🙄... can u imagine bein the gov of california and havin to address that? 😂

🤔 I mean, come on... who does this guy think he is? Always talkin' like he owns the place! "A piece of ice"?! That's just cold 💡, man. Greenland's got its own identity and Denmark's got a right to keep it too. Trump's all about the politics and not thinking about how his words affect people 🤷‍♂️. And yeah, the S&P 500 took a hit... I guess that's what happens when you're makin' empty threats 😬. Newsom said it best - boring and insignificant 🙄. Can't say I agree with him, but he's got a point. We should be focusin' on actual problems instead of drama like this 💸.

OMG, can you even believe what's going on with this guy?! 🤯 I mean, I get it, he wants to own Greenland and all, but does he have to go around saying we're gonna take it by force? 😩 Like, that's not exactly the most reassuring message. And omg, referring to Iceland as Greenland? How do you even mess up like that? 😂 It's just so... Trump.

And can we talk about how this is affecting the stock market and the US economy? 🤷‍♀️ $750 billion in wealth lost, yeah no thanks! 💸 I think Gavin Newsom hit the nail on the head when he said Trump's speech was "boring" and "remarkably insignificant". I mean, can't we just have a calm and rational conversation about this without resorting to threats? 🤝 I guess that's just not how politics work now, but still... 🙄

😏 what's next? Greenland as some sort of superpower play? 🤔 I mean, can't we just leave the little island alone? And what's with this "a piece of ice" comment? Is that supposed to be some kind of joke? It feels like Trump's trying too hard to prove a point, but really he's just sounding like... well, himself. 💁‍♂️
