White Sox bring back Erick Fedde to compete for spot in rotation

White Sox bolster rotation with Erick Fedde, adds depth to staff.

The Chicago White Sox have added Erick Fedde, a right-handed pitcher who was a bright spot in the Korean Baseball Organization last season, to their starting rotation as spring training approaches.

Fedde, 33, is expected to compete for a roster spot alongside starter Shane Smith and newcomers Anthony Kay, Sean Newcomb, Jonathan Cannon, Grant Taylor, Mike Vasil, Chris Murphy, Jedixson Paez, and David Sandlin. The team's first official workout date for pitchers and catchers is February 10.

Last season, Fedde struggled with the St. Louis Cardinals, Braves, and Brewers, posting an overall record of 4-13 with a 5.49 ERA across 24 starts and eight relief appearances. However, he began to show signs of improvement late in the year, posting a 1.93 ERA in nine bullpen appearances.

Fedde's fastball tops out at around 93 mph, along with a sinker, cutter, sweeper, and change. He will face stiff competition for a spot on the White Sox staff, but his experience and performance last season may give him an edge.

General manager Chris Getz was scheduled to speak to reporters Monday afternoon about Fedde's signing, although details of the one-year deal were not disclosed. The move is the first official signee for the White Sox rotation, which had been quiet in terms of additions before this signing.

I don't trust this new guy Fedde... I mean, he was terrible with those other teams but somehow he's gonna magically become a game-changer for the White Sox? πŸ€” 4-13 record and 5.49 ERA last season? Not exactly inspiring. And now he's competing with some decent pitchers on their staff... I'd say his chances of making the cut are slim to none 😐. I'm sure they're just trying to fill a hole or something, but this feels like a desperation move πŸ€‘.

feddes gonna be like that 1 guy who finally finds his groove but gets benched lololol meanwhile shane smiths over here with his starter vibes πŸ’―πŸŽ‰ cant wait to see how he shakes out with the new squad

Omg, I'm so hyped about the White Sox adding Erick Fedde to their rotation 🀩! I mean, he's a total wild card, right? One year, one deal... that could be the ticket to them making a deep playoff run 😎. The guy's got some serious stuff - 93 mph fastball and all those secondary pitches. I'm curious to see how he'll hold up against MLB hitters πŸ€”. It's gonna be super interesting to watch him compete for a spot alongside Shane Smith and the newbies πŸ‘€. Bring on spring training! πŸ’ͺ

πŸ€” The White Sox are finally making some moves! I think adding Erick Fedde to their rotation could be a game-changer. He's got the experience and skills to contribute to their staff, especially with his sinker being super effective πŸŒͺ️. What I find interesting is how he bounced back in the 2nd half of last season - that shows he's still got some good stuff. The competition for a spot will be tough tho... 😬

idk why they're so hyped about erick fedde lol he got benched like 4 times last season and still thinks he's gonna be a game changer? πŸ€” the white sox need to focus on their bullpen, they've been getting crushed in games when it's close. also who's gonna tell smith that his job is on the line now? 😏 fedde's got some skills, but i'm not placing my chips on him yet

The art of rebuilding a team's rotation... It's like the ebb and flow of life itself - some players come in, make their mark, and then move on 🌊. Erick Fedde, it seems, has arrived with the White Sox, bringing with him a mix of struggles and glimmers of hope πŸ’‘. One can't help but wonder what drives us to chase perfection, only to stumble upon imperfections πŸ˜”.

In this case, Fedde's addition does bring a sense of excitement and possibility πŸŽ‰, yet it also raises questions about the value we place on failure 🀯. Can a player who's struggled in the past find redemption? Is it a testament to human resilience or a reminder that we're all works in progress? Only time will tell, but one thing's for sure - Fedde's arrival has set the stage for an intriguing narrative πŸ“š...

I think its cool that the Sox are giving Erick Fedde a shot! He has some decent stuff going on - that 93 mph fastball could be useful. I'm not sure what the haters will say about him after last season's struggles, but it sounds like he was able to find his rhythm towards the end of the year. I mean, who doesn't love an underdog story? The Sox rotation has been pretty quiet so far, so this is a nice boost. Let's just hope Fedde can stay healthy and put in the work during spring training 🀞

omg u guys! 🀩 the white sox just signed erick fedde πŸŽ‰ and i'm low-key excited! πŸ’₯ he's got a dope arsenal with that 93 mph fastball and all those secondary pitches 😲 i mean, we know his numbers from last season weren't fire πŸ”₯ but like, he showed some signs of life in the bullpen? πŸ”ͺ let's see if he can bring that momentum to the rotation πŸ”„ this could be the spark the sox needed πŸ’‘ plus, getz is doin' somethin' right with this move πŸ‘ now we just gotta wait and see how fedde shakes things up with shane smith and co πŸ€”

omg i just watched a vid of a dog playing piano 🐢🎹 and it was so hilarious i dont know how they do that lol anyway whats up with pitchers and stuff? like why cant they just pitch already πŸ˜‚ and what does the 5.49 ERA even mean?? can someone explain it to me in simple terms pls?

Lol what's up with Erick Fedde, right? He was like the opposite of a superhero last season - instead of saving the day, he was more like, saving his job in the minors . But hey, 1.93 ERA in bullpen appearances? That's some sweet, sweet baseball magic! And 93 mph fastball? Yeah, that's what I'm talking about! He might not be the ace, but he's definitely a plus-one for the White Sox rotation . February 10 can't come soon enough, let's see him work his magic and show us what he's got!
