Who is in the Premier League relegation fight - and what is needed for survival?

The Premier League's relegation battle has taken an unexpected turn, with several teams now in contention for survival. Just a couple of weeks ago, West Ham, Wolves and Burnley seemed doomed to drop down to the Championship, but a remarkable turnaround has seen them all mount a late charge.

West Ham have bounced back from a miserable spell, winning three games on the spin against Tottenham Hotspur and Sunderland to close the gap with Nottingham Forest to just six points. While their season is still far from over, they can now be considered among the favourites for survival, albeit unlikely outsiders given their pre-season form.

Wolves, meanwhile, have found some solidity under new boss Rob Edwards, ending a 13-match winless run against West Ham in their last match. They may not be mathematically out of danger yet but are showing signs that they can compete with the top teams in the league, at least to some extent.

Burnley have had a respectable run of form recently, earning draws against Liverpool and Tottenham, but a crushing 3-0 defeat by Sunderland has left them 11 points from safety. They still face an uphill battle, but their performances suggest they won't be the first team to be relegated this season without a fight.

What does history tell us about teams avoiding relegation? For the past nine seasons, only nine teams have managed to escape the drop after being bottom of the table at the 23-game mark. Only three times since the Premier League's inception in 1992 has this happened: Aston Villa (2019-20), Leicester City (2014-15) and Sunderland (2013-14).

With just over a quarter of the season remaining, it remains to be seen if any of these teams can pull off an impossible escape. For West Ham, Wolves and Burnley, survival is now within reach - but only just.

Seven Premier League clubs are currently in danger of dropping out of the league, with Nottingham Forest, Leeds United, Crystal Palace, Tottenham, and three others sweating over their status. But West Ham's latest win suggests they may be able to outlast some of these rivals, at least for now.

OMG, I'm literally freaking out rn!!! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿด๏ธ๏ธ๏ธ๏ธ๏ธ the way West Ham is doing right now is insane!! ๐Ÿคฏ 3 wins on a row against Tottenham and Sunderland?? ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ‘ they're defo in contention for survival now! ๐Ÿ’ช and Wolves too, Rob Edwards is a genius coach and I love how they've found some solidity under him ๐Ÿ’• Burnley's performance recently has been great too, but that 3-0 defeat by Sunderland was a bit of a slap in the face ๐Ÿ˜ณ anyway, can't wait to see what happens next! ๐Ÿค”

I'm telling you, it's not that surprising that teams like West Ham are making a late push for survival. The Premier League is just so unpredictable - one week you're 20 points from safety and the next you're fighting for your life. I think people write off these teams too quickly because of their pre-season form or previous performances in previous seasons, but football's all about momentum and confidence now. If West Ham can keep winning, they might just be able to squeak through. And Wolves are showing signs that they've got some serious fight left in them - if they can carry this form over, who knows? It'll be a thrilling finish to the season for sure! ๐Ÿค”

I'm not surprised to see these teams making a late push for survival ๐Ÿค”. It's been happening more often than we think in the Premier League. The thing is, these teams still have a long way to go before they can be considered safe from relegation ๐Ÿ˜…. We've seen it time and time again - one bad result and suddenly you're under pressure again โšฝ๏ธ.

But what does history tell us? Well, statistically speaking, it's still a tough ask for any team to avoid relegation once they're in the bottom three ๐Ÿ”ฎ. I'm not saying it's impossible, but I'd be surprised if all of these teams can somehow defy the odds ๐Ÿคฏ. Still, you have to give them credit for fighting back and giving themselves a chance ๐Ÿ™Œ. We'll just have to wait and see how this unfolds...

omg i cant believe what's happening in the premier league right now lol those teams that were written off are making a comeback for real ๐Ÿคฏ west ham is like the underdog story of the century, they went from 0-3 at home to beating spurs and sunderland consecutively ๐Ÿ˜ฒ wolverhampton has gotten their mojo back and burnley is still fighting hard against all odds ๐Ÿ’ช its crazy how these teams are still in contention for survival but like only just ๐Ÿค”

I'm loving this Premier League drama unfolding right now ๐Ÿคฉ! The way teams can turn their season around is just crazy! I mean, who would've thought West Ham would be in contention for survival? ๐Ÿ˜‚ Those guys were getting smashed by everyone. But now they're on a hot streak and maybe โ€“ just maybe โ€“ they'll make it out alive.

I've been thinking, if history has anything to say about it, these teams have got some tough odds against them ๐Ÿค”. It's always amazing when teams defy the stats and manage to stay up. Who knows, maybe one of them will do the unthinkable? ๐Ÿ˜‰ I'm keeping an eye on this one, can't wait to see how it all plays out!

๐Ÿคฏ So West Ham are 6 points behind 3rd place now! ๐Ÿ† That's crazy considering how bad they were a few weeks ago. They've won 3 games in a row, which is insane. I'm surprised they didn't get relegated yet given their pre-season form was rubbish ๐Ÿ˜‚. Wolves are looking solid under new boss Rob Edwards too. Burnley have been decent but that 3-0 loss to Sunderland was brutal ๐Ÿ’”. Did you see the stats on teams avoiding relegation? Only 9 out of 27 teams since 1992 have managed it after being at the bottom ๐Ÿ“Š๐Ÿ‘€. It's still anyone's game, especially with only a quarter of the season left โฐ. West Ham might just outlast some of those other struggling teams for now ๐Ÿคž

I'm loving this Premier League drama right now! ๐Ÿคฏ Teams that were considered dead men walking are suddenly breathing life into the season...I mean who would've thought West Ham could turn their season around like that? ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ It's crazy how a few wins can change everything, and it shows that anything is possible in football. Even Burnley, I feel for them, 11 points from safety, that's still a long way off but you never know what can happen in this league...those odds of escaping relegation are so tight, it'll be thrilling to watch these teams make their push! ๐Ÿ’ฅ

lololol... 13-match winless run for Wolves? that's like me going a whole month without ordering a single coffee ๐Ÿคฃ anyway, who'd have thought Burnley could hold their own against Liverpool and Tottenham? maybe they're secretly trying to avoid relegation so we can get more of Pogba on the pitch ๐Ÿ˜‚

๐Ÿค” I think it's wild that West Ham is suddenly a contender for survival after being so bad, especially with their pre-season form ๐Ÿ˜‚! Wolves have been doing well under new boss Rob Edwards and Burnley has had some respectable draws recently ๐Ÿ“Š! But yeah, history isn't always on your side when it comes to avoiding relegation, and it's going to be a tough finish for all these teams ๐Ÿ†. Nottingham Forest is still in danger of getting relegated despite being one of the favorites ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ. It's anyone's game at this point, especially with seven clubs fighting for survival ๐Ÿ’ฅ! West Ham's latest win gives them some hope, but we'll have to wait and see how it all plays out ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ. #RelegationBattle #WestHam #Wolves #Burnley #PremierLeague

๐Ÿค” I'm loving this Premier League drama! It's crazy how quickly the table can shift in a few weeks. I think West Ham's recent run is a great example of how you don't give up on yourselves, no matter what the stats say. They've got some momentum going and if they can keep it up, who knows? ๐Ÿคž And Wolves' new boss has definitely turned their season around - Rob Edwards seems like a top bloke! ๐Ÿ’ก Burnley's still in with a shout, but 11 points from safety is a tall order... we'll see how the rest of the season plays out ๐ŸŽฏ

Aww man, teams are really fighting hard to stay up ๐Ÿค•๐Ÿ˜“. It's like they're all stuck in a super tough situation and it's hard not to feel bad for them ๐Ÿ˜”. I mean, West Ham was just struggling so much, but they've been on fire lately ๐Ÿ”ฅ! And Wolves, they got that new boss and now they're looking pretty solid ๐Ÿ’ช. Burnley too, they've had some good draws recently ๐Ÿคž. But at the same time, it's like they're all running out of time โฐ...only three teams have made it from being bottom to staying up in the last nine seasons ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. It's gonna be so nail-biting for fans watching them fight for survival ๐Ÿ’ฅ!

the relegation battle is getting intense ๐Ÿคฏ especially with west ham making a surprise comeback. it's crazy how teams can turn things around so quickly. if history tells us that only 3 teams have made the impossible escape since the premier league started, i'd say west ham's chances are slim but they're definitely not out of the running yet ๐Ÿ’ฅ their recent wins against toffee and reds should give them some confidence for upcoming matches. wolves and burnley also showing signs of improvement under new management ๐Ÿ”„

Man, can you believe this Premier League relegation battle? It's like the old days when teams would mount incredible comebacks to avoid the drop. Remember '96 and Newcastle United going down in dramatic fashion only to bounce back and win the title a year later? That was some crazy stuff. I think West Ham's recent form is reminiscent of that, Wolves are showing signs they can compete with anyone now after that 13-match winless streak, and Burnley's decent run of form is like Leicester City's in 2014 - not out of it yet! But it's all about the next few weeks now. Will we see some late-season drama?

im loving this relegation battle vibe lol ๐Ÿคฉ the underdog teams are giving the big boys a run for their money and it's so inspiring! i think what history shows us is that even with all odds against them, those 3 teams managed to pull off an incredible escape back in 2014. so who knows, maybe west ham, wolves, and burnley can do the same thing ๐Ÿคž

i feel like teams that were written off are actually having a good run right now. its crazy how quickly fortunes can change in the premier league! ๐Ÿคฏ

You know how crazy it is when teams start to mount a comeback like this? I was watching that game against Tottenham the other day and I just about had my heart stopped ๐Ÿคฏ! West Ham's season has been all over the place but if they can keep this up, they might actually pull off some sort of miracle. And Wolves, man... their new coach is making a real difference. It's like they've turned a corner or something โšก๏ธ. I don't want to jinx anything for Burnley, though - they're still in a tough spot ๐Ÿ˜ฌ. The thing that gets me is how often it happens like this, where teams are written off and then suddenly they're right back in the hunt ๐Ÿค”. It's just another reminder that anything can happen in sports, especially in the Premier League! ๐Ÿ’ฅ

I feel like we've all been through that rollercoaster before right? One minute you're feeling hopeless, the next you're on top of the world ๐ŸŒŸ! I think what's so inspiring about West Ham's comeback is that it shows no team is ever truly out of it. Even though their season started off shaky, they've found some momentum and now they're giving themselves a fighting chance ๐Ÿ’ช. It's amazing to see how much pressure they must be under, but still, they're not giving up ๐Ÿ˜ฉ. Fingers crossed for them (and the rest of those struggling teams)! โค๏ธ

I'm loving this relegation battle drama ๐Ÿคฏ! It's crazy how much can change in a few weeks, right? I mean, just look at West Ham - they've gone from being written off to suddenly looking like a dark horse contender ๐Ÿ˜‚. And Wolves are back on the map under Rob Edwards, that new boss of theirs must be doing something right ๐Ÿค”.

But you know who's been here before? Sunderland! ๐Ÿ˜… They took down Burnley last week and now they're looking like the team no one wants to play against ๐Ÿคฃ. It's all so unpredictable at this point. I'm intrigued to see how the rest of the season plays out, especially with just a quarter of it left.

I mean, what are the chances, right? That some team might come from behind and snatch their way back into safety โš”๏ธ? Stranger things have happened in the Premier League, after all! And with only 6 points separating West Ham from the drop zone, anything can happen...

Ugh, remember when relegation battles were more intense back in the 90s? Like, teams used to go down without a fight, and it was always a nail-biter till the end. Now, it's like these teams just chill until the last minute and then magically stay up. I mean, West Ham winning three games on the spin is still impressive, but it feels like it's becoming too easy for them to avoid relegation. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad they can compete, but it's not exactly what makes football exciting, you know? ๐Ÿค”
