Women's Nations League: Spain's Cata Coll denies Germany to keep final in the balance

Germany held its nerve against Spain in Kaiserslautern on Friday, forcing the Nations League final into a cliffhanger with Tuesday's second leg in Madrid still to come. The home side dominated possession and shots, but goalkeeper Cata Coll was instrumental in denying Germany the breakthrough, making several crucial saves throughout the 90 minutes.

Despite the Germans' 19 attempts on goal, none of them were converted into a score, leaving Spain's victory still very much alive. Klara Bühl played a key role for Germany, showcasing her skill and power but ultimately falling just short against Coll.

As the game wore on, the rain began to fall, but it was the Germans who continued to press forward, with Jule Brand coming close in the 76th minute when his shot skimmed off the top of the bar. The game ended scoreless, leaving the tie delicately balanced and setting up an intriguing second leg.

For Germany's players, though, there is optimism ahead of Tuesday's match. "Everyone who saw today's match knows that we didn't just keep up but played really well," said defender Janina Minge. "If we can convert our chances and keep defending as we did, we can get the win."

Spain has a rich history in major tournaments, having reached finals in four of the last five major competitions. The team will be determined to capitalize on its narrow escape in Kaiserslautern and bring home the title.

lol what's up with this tie? both teams are so hyped for the 2nd leg, but Germany's defense was insane! 🤯 Cata Coll is a godess, no way anyone scores against her 😂 i'm low-key rooting for Germany now, they played way better than I thought. and btw, Spain's history in major tournaments is kinda overrated - they've had their share of luck and good teams have been the ones to crush them 💪

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this match 🤯 Germany's defense was on point, but that one save by Cata Coll was huge! I mean, 19 shots on goal and zero scores is crazy 🎯 They need to capitalize on those chances in Madrid or it'll be a tough road ahead.

I love how Klara Bühl brought her A-game, though 💪 But it's not just about individual talent – the team effort was really impressive. Janina Minge's words make sense too – if they can keep playing like that and defend as well as they did today, they've got a shot at winning.

It's gonna be intense in Madrid, but I'm feeling good about Germany's chances 🤞 That rain didn't seem to faze them! Can't wait to see what happens next 💦

omg is that rain so scary?! 😱 i was watching from my bedroom window and it was like a mini storm 🌨️ i love when the rain makes everything feel cozy tho ❤️

so germany looked super strong in that game lol i loved klara bühl's skills 💪 she's like, my new fave player 🙌 but spanish goalkeeper cata coll is literally a superhero 😍 making all those saves

i dont think spain should be too confident tho 🤔 they still have to play the second leg and germany is gonna come at them with even more energy 🔥 i hope janina minge's prediction comes true tho 👀

man this game was insane 🤯 the german girl Klara Bühl is literally a beast on the field, but that spain goalie Cata Coll is like a wall, making some crazy saves left and right... 19 shots on goal for germany and nothing to show for it, i'm kinda worried about them going into the second leg, but at least they're feeling optimistic about it 🤞 still gonna be a close one tho, spain's got that history thing working in their favor 🙅‍♂️

I'm still buzzing from this Nations League final 🤯! Germany played so well, they deserved that draw, but Cata Coll was like a brick wall 💪! I mean, 19 shots on goal and not one scored? It's crazy! Klara Bühl was absolute fire 🔥, she really should've scored.

I love how Janina Minge is staying positive 🌞, the team played so well, they should be proud of themselves. And Spain, oh boy, they're gonna come back strong 💪! They have that experience and history on their side, it's like they're seasoned pros 🤓. The second leg in Madrid is gonna be EPIC 🔥!

"You don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great." 🚀💪 That's what I think is going through Germany's minds right now - they didn't just hold their nerve against Spain, they actually played a great game and are now looking forward to the next leg. Their players seem confident about their chances, and with a little bit of luck, maybe they'll finally get that breakthrough. The pressure's on for Spain too, as they know they can't afford to drop points at home again. It's shaping up to be an epic rematch! 💥

OMG 🤯 I'm literally so hyped for the 2nd leg!!! 💥 Germany totally had it coming, their skills were on point but that Coll girl is a total boss 😂! Can't believe it ended scoreless tho, what's going to happen in Madrid?! 🤔 My fave Klara Bühl was just SO close though... her power and skill are insane! 😍 I'm also loving Janina Minge's positivity, they've gotta bring that confidence to the next game 💪. And Spain, oh man... they're like the masters of these sorts of matches 😎. This is going to be EPIC 🤩

Wow 🤯 Spain's goalkeepers are literally superheroes right now! Cata Coll made some insane saves today 🙌. Germany was all over Spain, but they just couldn't find the back of the net. Klara Bühl is a beast on the field 💪, but sometimes you gotta give credit to the opposing team for keeping it tight 🔒. And can we talk about Jule Brand's shot? 😱 That was so close! This tie is heating up and I'm loving every minute of it 🤩. Bring on Tuesday's second leg! ⚽

Imagine a seesaw 💪... Germany's side is down, but they're not out yet! 😅 They had 19 chances to score, but Spain's Coll was like a wall 🏰, blocking everything that came her way. Klara Bühl's skills are insane, but even she couldn't find the back of the net.

If I were Germany, I'd focus on those 2nd-leg chances... if they can convert them, they've got this 💥! Janina Minge says it all - they didn't just survive, they thrived. Now, let's see how Spain responds in Madrid 🤔... it's going to be a wild ride! ⚽
