X response to Grok sexualised images scandal 'insulting' to victims of misogyny, says No 10 – UK politics live

X's response to Grok sexualised images scandal 'insulting' to victims of misogyny, says No 10 - UK politics live. The Prime Minister's spokesperson has described X's decision to turn off the Grok AI image creation function as "insulting" to victims of misogyny, arguing that it is a weak solution to a problem that requires more substantial action.

In contrast to X's move, the government will prioritize stopping the production of abhorrent images and taking action to prevent their distribution. The spokesperson stated that if another media company had displayed unlawful images in town centres, they would have taken immediate action to remove them or faced public backlash.

The government is also considering all options to address the issue, including working with Ofcom to take any necessary actions. No 10 has expressed its commitment to protecting victims of misogyny and sexual violence from these types of image creations.

This move comes as X responds to a scandal surrounding the creation and distribution of sexualised deepfake images on their platform. The Grok AI function allowed users to create and share such images, sparking widespread criticism and calls for greater regulation of such content online.

In response to the criticism, X has turned off the feature for most users. However, some experts argue that this is not enough, and that more substantial action is needed to address the underlying issues driving the creation and distribution of such content.

The No 10 spokesperson's comments highlight the government's concerns about the impact of online platforms on victims of misogyny and sexual violence. They also underscore the need for greater regulation and accountability in the tech industry to prevent the spread of such harmful content.

As the debate around this issue continues, it remains to be seen what further actions will be taken by X and the government to address the problem of Grok's AI function and other platforms that enable the creation and distribution of sexualised deepfake images.

omg u think x's decision 2 turn off grk ai func is a weak solution lol idk i mean, its better than nothing 🤷‍♀️ but tho the gov is right, more substantial action is needed 💯 it cant just sit back & watch victims of misogyny suffer thru this 😔 they need to take firmer steps 2 address the issue 👊 maybe x can partner w/ gov or orgs that specialize in combating online abuse 🤝 and btw why is grk ai still available 4 users who created those abhorrent images? 🚫 didn't they get their due punishment yet? 😡

"Silence is not an option if you're a bystander." 🤐 This whole situation with Grok and their AI image creation feature is a huge wake-up call for all of us. We need to take responsibility for our online actions and hold those in power accountable too. I don't think turning off the feature for most users is enough, we need more concrete measures to be taken. It's time for tech companies to step up and regulate themselves before it's too late.

I'm so done with all these tech companies just sweeping their problems under the rug 🤯. I mean, turn off the feature? That's not enough! 😒 It's like they're trying to downplay the issue or something. And what really gets my goat is that the government is actually taking this seriously and pushing for real change. Like, if a company just leaves it up to themselves to decide how to handle these issues, it's just gonna keep happening over and over again 🤦‍♂️. We need stricter regulations in place to prevent the spread of harmful content online. It's not that hard, guys! 💪

omg this is so worrying 😱🚨 like no one deserves to see those pics and it's not fair on the victims 🤕👮‍♀️ X's move to shut down their feature is a good start but we need more 👍🏼💪 the gov's plan to tackle this problem is solid too 🙌 they should work with tech companies to crack down on these platforms that are enabling this crap 💻🚫

I'm telling you, back in my day we didn't have all this tech fuss, but I think it's high time someone took a stand against these sick images 🤢. I mean, X's decision to turn off their AI function was a start, but the government needs to do more 💪. They need to crack down on those platforms that enable this kind of content and make them accountable for what they put out there 📺. It's not just about X or Grok, it's about creating a safe space for everyone online 👫. And yeah, I get it, no one wants to see these images again, but we need better solutions than just turning off the feature 🔙. The government needs to work with tech companies and experts to find a way to prevent this kind of content from being created in the first place 🤝. It's time for some real action 💥.

I think X's decision is kinda weak lol 😂 they should've done more like, a total overhaul of their system or something 🤔 but i guess turning off the feature for most users is better than nothing 🙏 what really gets me is that some ppl are saying it's an insult to victims of misogyny... um isn't the point to stop the creation and distribution of those images in the first place? 🤷‍♀️ shouldn't we be focusing on how to prevent them from being made in the first place? 🤔

I'm not sure about the gov's stance on this... 🤔 They're trying to crack down on the issue, but some ppl think it's too little, too late. X's move might've been a bit harsh, but I get where they're coming from - those AI images are seriously creepy and can cause harm. The fact that the gov is willing to work with Ofcom to take action shows they're not just paying lip service to the issue. But what about holding the platforms accountable in the first place? 🤷‍♂️

I'm not sure I agree with No 10's response to this scandal 🤔. I mean, turning off the feature might seem like a good start, but it's just that - a start 😐. The real problem is how those AI tools are being used in the first place 🤖. It feels like X is only taking responsibility for their part in enabling this content, rather than really addressing the root causes of why it was created in the first place 💡.

And honestly, I think the government's plan to stop production and distribution of these images is a step in the right direction 👍. But what about holding the people creating and sharing this stuff accountable? 🤦‍♂️ We need to make sure that there are real consequences for those who engage in this kind of behavior, rather than just slapping them on the wrist or shutting down the platforms 💼.

I'm also worried that this is just a PR move by No 10 to look like they're doing something about the issue 📺. We need action, not just words 😬. What's the plan for really addressing this problem? How are we going to prevent it from happening in the first place? 🤔

omg i feel like the gov's response is kinda tone deaf 🙄 they're not even addressing the root cause of the issue which is how easy it is for users to create and distribute this stuff in the first place... turning off a feature is just band aid solution 💊 what we really need is more concrete action to hold platforms accountable for policing their own content 🤔

I mean, I get why the PM is upset with X's move, but honestly, I think it's a bit harsh to call it "insulting" to victims of misogyny? 🤔 Like, X did turn off the feature, right? That's some basic damage control. I'm all for them taking concrete actions and holding platforms accountable, but just shutting down the AI function seems like a pretty reasonable first step, don't you think? 🙄

I also feel like we're getting ahead of ourselves here - X didn't exactly create or distribute those deepfake images themselves (that's on their users, I guess). But at the same time, they should've had some kind of failsafe in place to prevent this stuff from happening. The PM's talking about public backlash and taking immediate action, but what about platforms having to regulate themselves? It's all a bit too little, too late for me... 🕰️

the gov's been slow on this one 🙄 i mean, yeah they're trying to take action but it feels like they're just scratching the surface. X turning off their feature might be a good start but it's not enough,IMO. we need more than just empty words and promises from the PM's spokesperson 👎 what about holding these platforms accountable? or providing support for the victims of this kind of exploitation? that's what we should be talking about 🤝

I'm like totally concerned about what's going on with these AI image creations 🤖💔. I mean, it's not just about X or the government, it's about the victims who are getting hurt by this stuff 😕. Turning off the feature might seem like a good start, but trust me, that's just the tip of the iceberg 🌊.

We need to have a real conversation about how we regulate these platforms and hold them accountable for what happens on their sites 🔒. It's not enough to just slap some rules together or hand it over to Ofcom 🙄. We need real action, like stronger laws that punish the platforms for hosting this kind of content 💪.

And can we talk about how quickly X responded? Like, 24 hours tops? That's not even a week 🤦‍♂️. I'm all for taking swift action, but let's make sure it's not just a PR stunt 😒. We need to see some real commitment to fixing this problem 💯.

🤦‍♀️ I think its a bit harsh on X for just turning off the feature without giving them a chance to address the issue properly 🙏. They're already taking steps by doing so, right? 🔄 The government's response comes across as kinda heavy-handed imo 😬. A stronger stance from tech companies would be way more effective in addressing this problem 💻.

I don't think this is a good enough response from X 🤔. Turning off their AI feature might help, but it doesn't address the root issue - how these platforms are designed to facilitate the creation and sharing of such harmful content in the first place. It's like treating the symptoms without tackling the disease 💉. And what about the responsibility that comes with having a platform? Shouldn't X be doing more to actively prevent this kind of thing from happening on their site? 🤷‍♀️ I'm all for action, but just taking down the feature and calling it a day doesn't seem like enough to me 😐.

idk why no 10 is so harsh on x for turning off the grok ai thing... it seems like a step in the right direction, even if its not enough 🤔. the gov should be focusing on making sure these platforms actually delete the content instead of just criticizing them for trying to do something 🙄. and what's with all the talk about "substantial action"? can't we just have some common sense here? like, turn off the feature that creates these images in the first place... seems pretty simple 💁‍♀️

🤔 I think the PM's spokesperson is right in saying that just disabling the feature isn't enough... I mean, it's like saying "oh no, people are looking at some naughty pictures" and then just turning off the whole thing 🙅‍♂️. If you're gonna make a platform where users can create and share these images, shouldn't there be more robust safeguards in place? It feels like X is just sweeping the problem under the rug for now 💩.

And yeah, I agree with the gov that if someone's gonna put up dodgy stuff in town centres, they should get taken down pronto ⚠️. But what about the platforms themselves? Shouldn't they be doing more to prevent this kind of content from being created and shared in the first place? 🤷‍♂️
