Yankees Give ‘Unhittable’ Reliever Shot at Opening Day Roster

Yankees Give Unheralded Reliever Shot at Opening Day Roster

The New York Yankees are giving a young, unheralded right-handed reliever from their minor league system a chance to shine on the major league roster. Harrison Cohen, who went undrafted and signed as an undrafted free agent in 2022, has been touted by one expert as "one of the most unhittable relievers in the minors over the last two seasons."

Despite being overlooked in the 2022 draft, Cohen has quickly risen through the ranks, earning promotions from Single-A to High-A to Double-A and eventually Triple-A. Last season, he impressed with a 1.57 ERA over 28 2/3 innings pitched, striking out 29 batters.

Cohen's impressive minor league performance has earned him a spot on Baseball America's top prospect list, currently ranking as the Yankees' No. 18 overall prospect and the 14th-ranked pitcher in the organization. He will now have his chance to break camp with the major league team, although it remains to be seen how much of an impact he can make.

The Yankees' decision to invite Cohen to spring training is seen as a long-shot move, but one that could pay off if he continues to impress. With the World Baseball Classic just around the corner, Cohen will also have the opportunity to showcase his skills on the international stage for Team Israel.

idk man... i mean, its kinda cool that they're giving this kid a shot 🤔. but at the same time, he's been making all these amazing moves in the minors and now hes gonna be thrust into the spotlight? like, what if hes not as good as everyone says he is? 😬. imo, its either gonna be a huge success or a major letdown. i'm kinda rooting for him tho... cuz who doesnt love an underdog story 🌟?! but omg what if hes just a flash in the pan?

I was watching this old video of Andy Kaufman's comedy sketches the other day and I couldn't help but think about how some of those guys were so ahead of their time 🤪. Like, who needs a spotlight when you can just be weird in front of a crowd? And have you ever tried to find good pizza places in New York City? It's like they're hiding it from us on purpose 😂. I mean, what's the deal with that? Anyway, back to Cohen - I guess we'll see how he holds up under all that pressure 🤔.

I'm loving this development in the Yankees' minor league system 🤩. Giving a young, unheralded reliever like Harrison Cohen a shot at opening day is such a refreshing move. It shows that the team believes in developing their own talent and not just relying on big-name signings or trades. The fact that he's risen so quickly through the ranks despite being overlooked in the draft is a testament to his hard work and dedication 🙌. Now, it'll be exciting to see how he performs on the major league stage! Can you imagine the energy at Yankee Stadium when he makes his debut? 😃

Wow 🤯, I mean, who needs scouts and expert analysis when you've got a guy like Harrison Cohen coming out of nowhere? He's been crushing it in the minors with a 1.57 ERA and 29 Ks in just 28 2/3 innings! Interesting how he went undrafted but still managed to rise through the ranks, earning himself a spot on Baseball America's top prospect list 📈

omg I'm so hyped for Harrison Cohen!!! 🤩 he's like my ultimate baseball underdog story! i mean who gets drafted and then has all that potential? what a waste lol jk but seriously tho, this kid's got some serious stuff and it's awesome the yanks are giving him a shot. i'm rooting for him all the way 👍 now let's see if he can bring the heat in spring training & at the WBC 🎟️

I'm loving this underdog story 🤩! The Yanks are giving a chance to someone who flew under the radar and it's amazing to see him get the nod 😃. I mean, 1.57 ERA over 28 2/3 innings pitched? That's some serious sauce 🔥. It'll be cool to watch him break camp and show what he's got on the big stage 📺. Plus, representing Team Israel in the World Baseball Classic will be an awesome experience for him 👏. Let's see if this kid can live up to all the hype 💪!

idk why yanks are giving this guy a shot 😒 they're so deep in the bullpen already... but i guess its always good 2 see some young blood bring some energy 2 the team 🤔 maybe cohen can surprise us all 👀 dont get me wrong, his stats r pretty neat and all, but is he really gonna be as dominant in the majors? 🤷‍♂️ either way, it'll be fun 2 watch 😊

i mean, i'm not saying this guy's gonna be the next mariano r Rivera or anything 😂 but seriously, giving a young reliever a shot at opening day is kinda exciting? idk if he'll live up to all that hype from baseball america and whatnot, but hey, it's always cool to see some underrated talent get a chance to shine.

and can we talk about how impressive his minor league stats are? 1.57 era over 28 2/3 innings pitched is crazy 🤯. i guess you could say he's got the skills, now just gotta put them together in the big leagues and see what happens.

the world baseball classic thing is also a cool opportunity for him to get some more international experience. fingers crossed he can make a splash on that stage too 👍

I don't think this is such a big deal 🤔... I mean, it's not like they're giving him the keys to the kingdom or anything 💩. He's got some decent stats in the minors, but let's be real, he's still a rookie 🚨. One bad outing and he's back to the minor leagues 😒. But at the same time... I guess it's cool that they're giving him a shot 👍. Maybe he'll surprise us all 🤷‍♂️. The fact that Team Israel is an option is kinda awesome though 🌟, but can we talk about how many of these "top prospects" actually make it in the league? 🤦‍♂️

I think this young guy's been getting too much hype 🤔. I mean, going undrafted and still makin' it to the big leagues? That's not always a guarantee of success, ya know? He's gotta prove himself out there, show 'em what he's got. And even if he does well in spring training, that's just one more step. The league's stacked with talent, and every team's lookin' for an edge. Let's not get ahead of ourselves here... Cohen's gotta make some noise, put up the numbers, before we start talkin' about him as a top prospect 🤷‍♂️

I'm super skeptical about this young reliever getting a shot at Opening Day 🤔. I mean, all that hype about him being "one of the most unhittable" seems way overblown 💥. I bet he's got some major flaws in his game that'll get exposed in the big leagues ASAP 😬. The Yankees are basically taking a huge risk on someone who was barely drafted and has only been promoted through sheer luck 🤦‍♂️. What if he gets crushed by even the weakest hitters? What if he can't handle the pressure of playing in front of 50,000 screaming fans? I just don't think this is going to end well... 😟

I think this is gonna be interesting... I mean, who wouldn't want a fresh arm in the bullpen? It's like the Yanks are trying to shake things up and mix it up with some new blood 🔄. I'm intrigued by Harrison Cohen, sounds like he's got some serious skills on the mound 💪. The fact that he went undrafted and still managed to make it to this point is a great story, reminds me of all those guys who don't get the love just because they're not big-time prospects 🙄. Now, I'm curious to see how he'll hold up against the big boys... fingers crossed for him!

I think its cool that the Yankees are giving this young guy Harrison Cohen a shot at opening day. I mean, he went undrafted in 2022 and now hes all of a sudden one of their top prospects 🤯. He's been crushing it in the minor leagues with a 1.57 ERA over 28 2/3 innings pitched, which is insane! And now hes gonna get to play for Team Israel in the World Baseball Classic, thats like a major opportunity for him to show off his skills. I'm rooting for him, hope he can make it big and prove all the naysayers wrong 😊

I'm telling you, something fishy's going on here 🐟... this kid's been raking up in the minors like crazy! I mean, 1.57 ERA is insane! And now he gets a chance at the big leagues? It's like they're trying to throw him under the bus, make it look like a long shot, just so we don't suspect anything 😏... but what if it's all a setup? What if Cohen's been groomed for something bigger? Like maybe a secret government experiment or something 🤯... I mean, who needs that kinda pressure on their shoulders? The World Baseball Classic, huh? That sounds like a clever way to keep an eye on him, don't you think? 👀

omg i'm so hyped for this young gun @HarrisonCohen! 😍 the yanks are giving him a legit shot at opening day roster and it's about time we see more of these minor league phenoms shine 🌟! i mean, 1.57 ERA over 28 2/3 innings pitched? that's straight fire 🔥 he's definitely got what it takes to impress on the big stage 💪. can't wait to see how much he grows from this experience and if he'll be able to keep up with the pressure of playing in the world baseball classic 🏆🇮🇱. let's go yanks! #YankeesNation #HarrisonCohen #MLB #MinorLeague phenom #WorldBaseballClassic

I love how they're giving this kid a shot. I mean, someone's gotta prove 'em wrong, right? He went undrafted and signed as an undrafted free agent - that's some grit! 🤔
Reminds me of my own career, when I was starting out in marketing. Nobody gave me the time of day, but I worked my tail off and eventually landed on my feet. You never know what's gonna happen unless you give someone a chance to prove themselves.
Now, I'm not saying this kid is gonna be the next Mariano Rivera or anything, but it's great to see him getting an opportunity. And hey, if he can help out the team, that's just peachy 🎉
Spring training is always exciting, and with the World Baseball Classic coming up, Cohen might just get a chance to shine on a bigger stage. Fingers crossed for the kid! 👍

OMG u guys I'm like SO stoked about this Harrison Cohen guy 🤩! Like I was browsing thru baseball stats and I saw him and I'm just like "WHOA" who is this kid?! 😲 He went undrafted in 2022 but looks at his minor league stats and he's like a total ace 💪 1.57 ERA over 28 innings pitched? That's insane! 🤯 And now he gets to play in the majors with the Yankees? Like what even is this?!?! I'm rooting for him so hard, wish him good luck on the international stage too 🇮🇱 love watching new talent rise through the ranks 💕
