You need to read the treatise on spacing out, Bored and Brilliant

In our increasingly connected world, we're constantly bombarded with information, tempting us to stay engaged and productive. However, according to Manoush Zomorodi's book "Bored and Brilliant: How Spacing Out Can Unlock Your Most Productive and Creative Self," this relentless connectivity is not only detrimental but also unnecessary.

By letting your mind wander – whether it's staring out the window or daydreaming at work – we're depriving ourselves of a much-needed mental reprieve. Zomorodi argues that in today's hyper-connected age, boredom has become a luxury we've lost touch with. Our smartphones and digital distractions have conditioned us to be constantly occupied, but not necessarily engaged.

The problem is our addiction to choice paralysis, where the sheer number of options becomes overwhelming, causing us to freeze up. We're also influenced by the presence of our phones, even when they're not being actively used, which can affect our interactions with others and diminish our ability to remember things.

Zomorodi acknowledges that she's guilty of this too – clicking links, saving articles for later, but never actually reading them. But instead of scolding us for our tech usage, the book offers a practical solution. By implementing small changes, such as documenting our phone use, taking pictures without capturing them, or deleting apps that consume time, we can break free from this cycle.

While "Bored and Brilliant" won't magically transform you into a creative genius, it provides an accessible, scientifically-backed approach to unplugging occasionally. So, the next time you find yourself scrolling through Twitter on your commute, remember that taking a step back might be just what your mind – and your creativity – need.

I totally feel like I'm stuck in this cycle of constant distraction 📱😴. Like, have you ever been on the bus or something and you're trying to focus on work but your brain keeps wandering off thinking about stuff you need to do later? It's so annoying! 🙄 And then you scroll through your phone out of boredom and it just gets worse 😩. I try to set aside time for myself each day, like meditation or reading a book, but sometimes it's hard to disconnect from all the notifications 📱😤. I wish more people talked about this stuff, because it feels like we're all just stuck in this loop of overthinking and not being productive 🙃.

🙄 I mean, can't we just disconnect already? We're constantly being told to stay connected, but what's the harm in not checking our phones every 2 seconds? It sounds like people are missing out on the whole "space out" thing, which is actually good for productivity and creativity. But no, instead of embracing boredom, we're too busy trying to keep up with all the stuff on our screens. I mean, what's wrong with just staring out the window or daydreaming? It's not like it's going to hurt anyone... 🤷‍♂️

OMG 🤯📱 I'm like totally with Manoush Zomorodi on this one!!! 🙌 her book "Bored and Brilliant" is literally the truth - we're all so caught up in our screens, we forget how to be bored... like, what's wrong with that?! 😂 it's actually super refreshing to just chill out and let your mind wander. I've been trying to implement some of these tips, like deleting unnecessary apps on my phone 📊 and taking pictures without capturing them 📸. It's amazing how much more focused I am now 🤯. And yeah, our phones are literally conditioning us to be always-on, but what about when we need a mental break?! 🙅‍♀️ this book is like, the ultimate solution for anyone feeling burnt out 😴.

I'm so over this constant connectedness 🙄. I mean, think about it - we're all just mindlessly scrolling through our feeds, comparing our lives to everyone else's highlight reels. And for what? So we can feel less bored? Newsflash: boredom is not the problem! 😴 The real issue is that we've lost touch with downtime and quiet contemplation. Like, remember when you used to just sit in a park or something and stare at nothing? That was actually kinda nice 🌳. I know it's easy to get caught up in our screens, but sometimes just shutting off can be the best thing for your brain 💻. And honestly, if we can't even take a few minutes to ourselves without feeling guilty, how are we supposed to be creative or productive? 🤯

🤯 "The biggest risk is not taking any risk..." - Mark Zuckerberg 📱💻 We're so used to being connected that we forget how to disconnect, but maybe it's time to reboot our brains and take a break from the constant stream of information 🙅‍♂️

I think we're overreacting about being constantly connected 🤯💻. I mean, what's wrong with a little boredom, right? It can actually be kinda good for us 🙃. We're so used to having our thumbs on the pulse of everything that we've forgotten how to just sit back and enjoy the silence 🗿️. And yeah, maybe phones are bad news... but they also make life super easy 😂. Who needs mental reprieve when you can have Instagram notifications all day? 📸. I'm all for breaking free from this cycle, but not by deleting social media apps or whatever – just take a break and stare out the window like nobody's watching 👀.

omg i'm so guilty of this too 🤯 i mean i know i should delete those social media apps but they're like my go-to way to pass time when im bored lol i've been trying to reduce my screen time though, so i started playing more video games and reading books instead... idk if its making me more creative tho 🤔

🌞💡 I'm so down for this book! It's like, we're always connected, but is it even making us more productive? I mean, think about it - how many times have you been scrolling through social media and just zoning out? 😴 That's because our minds are trying to escape the overwhelm of choices. I totally need to start taking breaks and doing some actual thinking... like staring out the window 🌆 or something! It's crazy how our phones can affect us even when they're not on. Time for me to declutter my phone and get back to life 😊

OMG, u guys! 🤯 I'm totally feeling this book "Bored and Brilliant" 😴💡! Like, we're all so glued to our screens 24/7 and it's literally killing our productivity 😴👀! Manoush Zomorodi is like a genius or something 💥. I mean, who needs choice paralysis when you can just take a break and let your mind wander 🌳🔍? And yeah, deleting those time-wasting apps on my phone has been LIFE. CHANGING 🤩! It's all about finding that balance between being connected and being present, you know? 📱💆‍♀️

omg i totally get what zomorodi is saying 🤯📱 i mean we're always connected but are we really achieving anything? 🙄 my phone's been a curse lately, i feel like i'm constantly checking notifications and social media but nothing's ever really satisfying. like when i do try to disconnect (rarely btw 😉) i end up daydreaming or staring out the window and honestly it feels kinda refreshing? 🌅 i need to start taking more pics without posting them lol and maybe delete some apps that just waste my time 😂

🤯 I'm totally with Manoush Zomorodi on this one! It's like, we're so used to being constantly "on" that we've forgotten how to just chill out 🙃. I mean, think about it, when was the last time you did nothing but stare at a wall for 10 minutes straight? 😂 It's like our brains are addicted to stimulus, and it's messing with our ability to relax and be creative.

And omg, don't even get me started on social media 🤯. I'm guilty of mindlessly scrolling through Instagram, and it's soooo not good for my productivity (or my mental health 🤕). But Zomorodi's right, we need to take a step back and focus on our own thoughts and feelings. It's time to unplug and recharge 📴💆‍♀️.

I totally agree with this article 🤯. I feel like we're constantly being told to be productive and connected, but no one's talking about the importance of downtime. It's like our brains are burnt out from all the info overload 🙃. The idea that boredom is a luxury we've lost touch with makes so much sense – I mean, remember when you could just sit in silence and enjoy it? 😴 Now we're expected to be constantly entertained or productive. And don't even get me started on how our phones are ruining our lives 📱. It's time for us to take a step back, unplug, and let our minds wander again.

omg i feel like zomorodi is speaking straight to my soul i'm literally guilty of all these things i mean idc how many tabs i have open on my phone or how many social media apps i've downloaded but sometimes when i'm supposed to be working i find myself mindlessly scrolling through tiktok instead 🤦‍♀️ i swear i can do nothing with my life because of it 😂 anyway yeah this book sounds like a breath of fresh air maybe i'll try implementing some of those "solutions" like documenting my phone use lol sounds easy enough to start 👀

😴 I had this weird dream last night where I was at the beach and I forgot my phone 📱 and it was liberating in a weird way... like I finally got to relax without the constant buzzing 😂 anyway, back to this idea of taking breaks from our screens... I think it's cool how Manoush Zomorodi is trying to convince us that boredom isn't so bad after all 🤔 what if we actually learned to enjoy the quiet moments? maybe we could even get some new ideas or inspiration... or just chill out a bit 😎

I'm all about finding a balance in life 🤯. It's easy to get sucked into the vortex of constant connectivity, but honestly, it can be really draining 😴. We're so used to being on the go that we forget how refreshing it is to just... not be doing anything 💆‍♀️. By taking small breaks and giving our minds some space, I think we can actually become more productive and creative 📈. It's all about making conscious choices, like turning off notifications or deleting social media apps for a set amount of time ⏰. And trust me, it's not about becoming bored (although, let's be real, sometimes boredom can be awesome 😎). It's about giving ourselves permission to unplug and recharge 💻.

Ugh, I'm like, so over people not realizing how toxic constant connectivity is 🙄. Like, we're literally being told to chill out and take breaks from our phones by someone who's basically admitting they're guilty of the same thing too? "Hey, try this new habit, but first, let me show you all the things I've been doing wrong" 😂. Get real, Manoush! The point is, our brains need a break, and if we don't take care of them, we'll be miserable 🤯. And btw, have you seen the statistics on how much time people waste scrolling through social media? It's wild! So, yeah, "Bored and Brilliant" might be a good read, but let's not forget to put our own advice into practice 💁‍♀️.

🙄 I mean come on, are we really that addicted to our screens? Like, seriously, can't we just chill for a sec without needing to scroll through Instagram or Twitter? It's like we're conditioned to be constantly "on" and engaged 24/7. Newsflash: boredom is not the end of the world! In fact, it might just be what we need to recharge and get our creative juices flowing again.

I've been guilty of this too - I mean, who hasn't clicked on a link or saved an article for later only to never actually read it? 🤦‍♀️ But at least Manoush Zomorodi is trying to help us break free from this cycle. Implementing small changes like documenting our phone use or deleting time-wasting apps could make all the difference.

And let's be real, do we really need 24/7 access to information? Like, can't we just disconnect and focus on the present moment for once? It's not that hard to put down our phones and enjoy the view outside (or stare out the window, or daydream at work... whatever works!) 🌆 We're not robots, after all!

I'm loving this idea of embracing boredom as a chance to recharge 🤯💆‍♀️. I've been there so many times where I'd feel like I needed to stay connected all the time, but then I'd scroll through my phone for hours and just end up feeling more stressed than productive 📊😴. It's crazy how our phones can be both a blessing and a curse, right? I'm definitely gonna try some of the things Zomorodi suggests in her book, like deleting unnecessary apps and setting boundaries around my screen time 🚫🕰️. Who knew that taking a break could actually help me come back to tasks with more focus and creativity? 🎨💡
