1-year-old girl uninjured in deadly Auburn Gresham shooting

A 1-year-old girl escaped serious injury after a brazen shooting in Chicago's Auburn Gresham neighborhood Wednesday afternoon. According to a police report, her mother, 26, was fatally shot while sitting in the front seat of their vehicle, sending the car careening into another SUV on South May Street at around 1:25 p.m.

The unidentified woman was pronounced dead at Little Company of Mary Medical Center after being transported with multiple gunshot wounds. Her family, however, was still notified about her passing as of press time. Her two-year-old daughter, who was riding in the backseat, showed remarkable resilience and escaped without injury, despite being exposed to gunfire.

The 27-year-old driver, who was shot in the buttocks and elbow, received treatment at Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn but made a full recovery. Notably, his child's safety was safeguarded as she was taken into observation for medical evaluation after witnessing the incident.

🤔 what if that SUV they mentioned wasn't just any vehicle? Like, what if it was part of some experiment or something? The fact that the kid was taken away for "medical evaluation" is super sketchy in my opinion 🚑💉. I mean, I know she was traumatized, but did they need to monitor her like a lab rat? And what about the 27-year-old driver? He's lucky to be alive, but didn't he just get a pass because of some "protecting his child" narrative? 😒 I'm not saying it's a conspiracy or anything, but... I don't know, man. Just seems too convenient for me 🤷‍♂️

omg this is so crazy a 1 year old girl escaped serious injury lol what if it was her dad or another adult? the fact that the mom took one for the team by shielding her daughter from harm is really something i'm glad the little one is okay but like what's gonna happen to the family now? the grandma, grandpa, aunts, uncles... they all must be traumatized 🤕😭

Can you believe this? A 1-year-old girl just witnessed her mom get shot and she's literally fine. I mean, what even is that? And the worst part is, her mom didn't make it 🤕. It's just so senseless, you know? They're just trying to go about their day, drop off their kids at school or daycare, and then BAM! Gunfire everywhere. It's like, how can someone just be so careless with their life? 💔

😱 what's going on with these shooting incidents?! 🤯 one minute you're driving home from work, next thing you know there's bullets flying everywhere and people getting hurt. it's crazy to think that little girl could've been seriously injured or worse... her mum's death is heartbreaking tho 💔. can't believe the 27 yr old driver made a full recovery tho 🙏 hope his kid gets counseling tho 👧💕

Man, this is just another harsh reminder of how fragile life can be 💔. That little girl could've been gone in an instant, and we're only grateful that her resilience kicked in to save her. It's like, we think our kids are safe, but they're not immune to the world's dangers. As parents, it's hard to balance between letting them have some freedom and keeping them protected from harm. But I guess what I'm trying to say is, appreciate the little things while you can, 'cause life can change in a split second 😕. The fact that they were able to get medical help so quickly was probably what saved her - a reminder of how important it is to have good support systems in place, whether it's family, friends, or community 🤝. Anyway, just a sobering thought...
