Ads Are Coming to ChatGPT. Here’s How They’ll Work

OpenAI has announced plans to introduce ads into its popular chatbot platform, ChatGPT. The company claims that the ads will not influence the chatbot's responses and will be clearly labeled.

According to OpenAI CEO Fidji Simo, people trust ChatGPT for many important tasks, so it's crucial to preserve what makes the chatbot valuable in the first place - its ability to provide useful and objective responses. This means that ads will appear in separate boxes directly below the chatbot's answers, rather than altering the response itself.

Initial ad tests will roll out in the United States before expanding globally. The company says it won't sell user data or expose conversations with ChatGPT to advertisers, but users on its Plus, Pro, and Enterprise subscriptions will not see ads. Instead, users will be able to opt-out of the data used for advertising without affecting their ability to use other personalization features.

OpenAI has outlined principles guiding its approach to advertising, including not targeting users under 18 or revealing sensitive topics such as health, mental health, or politics. The company also plans to share more about how businesses can advertise within ChatGPT in the coming weeks.

The introduction of ads is a significant shift for ChatGPT, which has quickly grown into one of the largest consumer products on the internet with over 800 million weekly active users. OpenAI could use this revenue stream to support its business moving forward, as it faces increasing competition from rivals like Google Gemini.

However, some have expressed concerns that introducing ads could degrade the user experience and lead to issues similar to those seen in social media platforms. The company's CEO Sam Altman has previously acknowledged the failures of the social media era and is determined not to repeat them.

As ChatGPT continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how OpenAI will balance its desire for revenue with the need to maintain user trust and experience.

I'm kinda nervous about these ads on ChatGPT 🤔... I mean, I get that OpenAI needs some extra cash to keep up with those other giants like Google Gemini, but still, I don't wanna see our beloved chatbot getting all cluttered 😒. On the bright side, it's good they're planning to label the ads and not mess with the actual responses - that's a huge plus 🙌. And hey, at least we'll get some transparency about how OpenAI is handling user data and stuff... I guess it's all about finding that sweet spot between making money and keeping our trust 💸💯

I'm kinda down with the ads thing, but I gotta wonder if it's too much of a stretch to think they'll truly not influence the responses 😒. I mean, chatbots are designed to learn and adapt, so how can we be sure that won't happen? And what about those Plus, Pro, and Enterprise subscriptions? Sounds like a weird tier system to me 🤔. But hey, if they're transparent about the principles guiding their ads, I guess that's a good start 💡. Still, I'm not convinced this is the right move for ChatGPT...

I'm not sure about this new move by OpenAI 🤔... On one hand, it's good that they're trying to monetize their platform without sacrificing user trust 💯. The way they're going about it is also pretty transparent - ads will be clearly labeled and won't alter the chatbot's responses 📝.

But at the same time, I'm a bit worried about the potential impact on user experience 😬. ChatGPT is already an incredibly useful tool for many people, and if introducing ads starts to feel like just another annoyance, that could really turn users off 🚫. Plus, we've seen what can happen when platforms start prioritizing ad revenue over user well-being 📊.

I think OpenAI needs to keep a close eye on how this plays out and make sure they're not sacrificing their values for the sake of profit 💸. It's a tricky balance to strike, but if they can pull it off, I think ChatGPT could still be an amazing resource for people 🤓...

I'm low-key worried about this 😐. I mean, we know that ChatGPT is super useful, but ads? It kinda feels like they're gonna mess up what makes it awesome in the first place. I've seen other platforms do this and all I can think of is scrolling through my feed and getting bombarded with stuff I don't need 📱. Like, I get that OpenAI's trying to make some cash, but can't they just keep it simple? 🤔 And what about when we're not on the Plus, Pro or Enterprise subscriptions? Are we still gonna be forced to see ads? That's a bit too much for me 👀. I guess only time will tell if OpenAI's got this one right 💯.

omg I gotta say I'm kinda torn about this 🤔...on one hand I get why they wanna monetize the platform & all that 💸, but on another hand I'm worried it's gonna change the vibe of chatgpt for the worse 😐...I mean we're already dealing with enough info overload out there, do we really need more ads cluttering up our conversations? 📦👀...but at the same time I can see why they wanna make some cash 💸...and openai's got a good track record of being all about user trust & whatnot 👍...so fingers crossed it all works out & chatgpt stays true to its original purpose 🤞 #ChatGPT #OpenAI #AdvertisingConcerns

Umm... I'm kinda okay with ads on ChatGPT 😐. I mean, 800 million weekly active users is a huge deal! 💸 But at the same time, I worry about how it'll affect the whole user experience 🤔. I love how objective and informative ChatGPT has been so far - adding ads might kinda... water it down? 🚿

I'm also a bit concerned about data usage 📊. I get that OpenAI's got some safeguards in place, but what happens when they're not enough? 🤦‍♀️ And yeah, the principle of not targeting users under 18 or sensitive topics is a good start 👍.

But hey, it's not all bad news! 💡 The fact that users on higher subs can opt-out of data usage without affecting other features is a win in my books 🎉. Fingers crossed OpenAI doesn't mess this up too badly 😅

omg i got mixed feelings about this 😅... on one hand i love that chatgpt is gonna make some money & help openai sustain itself 🤑... but on the other hand, ads do kinda ruin the whole vibe of having a super helpful & neutral AI sidekick 🤖💻 if it's just gonna be all ' sponsored by xyz' in a box below what i'm trying to chat about 😒 i guess only time will tell how openai handles this...

I'm so down with this new ad thing 🤪, who doesn't want a few ads thrown in their chatbot mix? It's not like they're gonna ruin the vibe or anything 😒. People are already getting their info from everywhere else on the internet, what's one more box to look at? Plus, it's only fair that users pay for better personalized experiences... if you don't want to see ads, just don't upgrade to a Pro subscription, boom! Problem solved 🙄. And I'm sure those principles they've got are super strict and won't compromise user trust in the slightest 🤦‍♀️.

🤔 I'm kinda mixed about this ad thing on ChatGPT... On one hand, ads can bring in some serious cash to support the platform, but on the other hand, it feels like we're losing that pure, clean chatbot vibe 💻. I mean, if I trust ChatGPT for stuff that's super important to me, shouldn't I be able to have a seamless experience without ads getting in the way? 🤷‍♀️

At the same time, I get why OpenAI wants to monetize the platform - it's one of the largest consumer products out there, and they can't keep throwing money into it forever 💸. The fact that they're keeping ads separate from the responses and labeling them is a good start, but I'm still worried about how this will all play out in the long run 🤯.

I hope OpenAI's got a solid plan to balance user experience with revenue goals - we need to make sure ChatGPT stays trustworthy and awesome for us users 💕.

🤔 I think this is a big change for ChatGPT but I'm kinda hopeful about it 🤞. I mean, ads aren't new everywhere else online, so why not? As long as they're clearly labeled and don't mess with the chatbot's answers themselves 😒. It's like having a 'sponsored content' section on YouTube - you know what to expect. And if users can opt-out of data sharing for ad purposes, that's cool 👍. OpenAI's being pretty responsible about not targeting kids or sensitive topics 🙏. Now, it'll be interesting to see how they balance making money with keeping the user experience awesome 💸💻. Maybe this is a chance for them to innovate and create something new and better? 🤔👀

🤔 I don't know about these ads, man... I like that chatbot just as it is - no distractions or sales pitch getting in the way of useful info 🚫. I'm all for OpenAI trying to make some cash, but if users don't want to see ads, they shouldn't have to deal with 'em 🤑. It's like when you're on a site and suddenly ads pop up everywhere - it's just annoying 😒. They should keep the chatbot ad-free or at least give users an option to opt-out without messing with other features 💻. I'm worried that if they start pushing ads too hard, people will lose trust in ChatGPT all over again 🤦‍♂️. Can't have a valuable tool like that getting watered down just for the sake of some extra cash 💸...

🤔 I don't know about this... Introducing ads to ChatGPT sounds like a bad idea. What's next? Gotta pay for every single convo 🤑. Can't believe they're trying to make us pay for just having a chat with a bot 🤖. They say it won't change the response, but what if we want to see an ad and not get the answer we need? 🚫 That's when things go wrong... 👎

🤔 I'm kinda worried about this move... ads in a chatbot that's already so awesome 🤖? It feels like we're gonna have to deal with those annoying pop-ups everywhere 😒. Plus, what if it changes the vibe of the whole platform? I mean, some people trust ChatGPT for legit stuff, and now it's just gonna be all about making money 💸... not sure how that's gonna sit with me 👀.

I'm not sure about this ad thingy... I mean, I get it that they want to make some cash, but isn't chatbots supposed to be like, super helpful and stuff? Like back in the day when AOL was all the rage, we used to have those annoying banner ads, but you could still use the internet without them taking over. Now it feels like they're gonna mess with that magic. What if people start getting annoyed and just stop using it? I mean, I'm not saying I'd never want to see some ads on ChatGPT, but can't we find a way to make 'em less intrusive? Like, what's the point of having an ad-free option if you're just gonna have some on there anyway?

And don't even get me started on data collection... it's like they're playing catch-up with Google and Facebook or something. Remember when Facebook was all young and wild and free? It was like, the best place to connect with your friends back in 2010... now it's just so... complicated. I hope OpenAI knows what they're doing here...

I'm kinda mixed about this 🤔. I mean, I love chatbots like ChatGPT, they're so helpful! But at the same time, I get why they wanna make some cash 💸. The thing is, it feels like they're compromising on user experience a bit too much 🤷‍♂️. Like, what if the ads kinda mess with how you respond to the chatbot? I don't want my answers to be all "hey, we're sponsored" 😒.

But, on the other hand, 800 million weekly active users is a lot of people 💥. And OpenAI's got some good principles in place about not targeting minors or sensitive topics 🙏. That's like, the right thing to do, you know? So, I guess we'll just have to wait and see how it all plays out 🕰️. Maybe they'll find a way to make it work without ruining the vibe 💖.

🤔 I'm kinda mixed about this one... I mean, I get why they wanna make some cash, but at the same time, I use ChatGPT for all sorts of important stuff like planning trips and getting answers to questions, and the thought of ads messing with that is a bit of a bummer 📦. But I guess it's not like they're gonna be super intrusive or anything... the CEO does say they'll keep things clear, so fingers crossed 😅. What do you think? Am I just being paranoid or what? 🤷‍♂️

I think introducing ads into ChatGPT's platform is a double-edged sword 💡. On one hand, it can provide a significant revenue stream for the company and help fund future developments 🤑. But on the other hand, I'm worried that it could alter the user experience in a way that's not ideal 😐. I mean, think about it - we're already getting bombarded with ads online, do we really need them popping up when we interact with our favorite chatbots too? 🤔

I like how OpenAI is trying to preserve the chatbot's value by labeling ads separately and not altering the responses themselves 📝. That's a good move, but I'm still concerned that it could be a slippery slope 😬. What's to stop them from using data collected from users in the ad targeting process? 🤔 OpenAI needs to be transparent about how they're handling user data and make sure we trust their decisions 💯.

It'll be interesting to see how this plays out and whether users will still feel like ChatGPT is a valuable resource for them or just another platform trying to make money 😃.

I'm so down for some ad-free chat sessions 🙅‍♂️ but I think this is a great move by OpenAI! They're already killing it in terms of keeping users safe and private, so adding ads seems like a way to make the platform more sustainable without compromising on user trust. Plus, separate boxes below answers sounds super reasonable - I won't miss my ad-free bubble 😂

I'm soooo curious about this new development! 🤔 I mean, 800 million weekly active users is crazy talk! But ads in ChatGPT? Eh, I get why they wanna do it, but at the same time, I'm worried it's gonna mess with the whole vibe of the platform. I love how it's all about helpful and objective responses, you know? And now we're just gonna see ads popping up below the answers like that? It's a bit too much for me.

But hey, OpenAI's trying to do it right, so fingers crossed they won't mess things up too bad! 🤞 I guess it's all about finding that balance between makin' some cash and keepin' user trust. And from what I've seen so far, Sam Altman seems like a cool dude who's tryin' to learn from the mistakes of the past.

I just hope they don't start showin' me ads for stupid stuff I don't need! 😂 Know what I mean?
