A Chicago cop narrowly escaped serious injury after being struck by a fleeing driver on Wednesday night. The incident occurred when officers pulled over a vehicle for a traffic infraction at 8:24 p.m. in the 5700 block of South State Street, prompting the woman behind the wheel to speed away, hitting one officer in the foot.
The suspect vehicle then careened out of control, eventually colliding with another SUV in the 2600 block of South State Street. The two suspects were apprehended at the scene, bringing an end to a chaotic pursuit that had left police shaken.
Miraculously, the officer who was hit, along with both suspects, received medical attention โ the woman driving the suspect vehicle was taken to Insight Hospital for treatment, while the injured cop was airlifted to a nearby hospital in fair condition. Charges against the two suspects are pending, as authorities continue to process evidence and build their case.
