Europa League: Which clubs made the top eight and who went out?

Aston Villa has completed a dramatic comeback in the Europa League, beating Red Bull Salzburg 2-1 at Villa Park to finish second in the competition's league phase. The victory marked Villa's first win in five games and propelled them above Lyon to take second place in Group B.

Lyon finished top of the group with four wins from six matches, while Villa secured their spot by accumulating more points than Salzburg despite losing two of their six games.

Sean Dyche's side thrashed Ferencvaros 4-0 and Celtic scored three goals inside the first 20 minutes on their way to a 4-2 win over Utrecht.

Meanwhile, Rangers suffered another away defeat in Europe, losing 3-1 at Porto. The Scottish club has now lost six consecutive matches in European competition.

The other teams that qualified for the Europa League knockout phase are Nottingham Forest and Celtic, who advanced to February's play-off round after finishing above their respective groups.

OMG 😲 Aston Villa is having an amazing season πŸ™Œ! They're really showing off their skills now πŸ’ͺ. I mean, coming back from a 2-1 loss at home and beating Red Bull Salzburg 2-1? That's insane πŸ”₯! And to think they were almost out of the competition 😩. But now they're second in Group B and on their way to the knockout phase πŸŽ‰! It's all thanks to those guys back at Villa Park πŸ‘, who never gave up πŸ’•!

I'm thoroughly impressed by Aston Villa's resilience and determination in securing a spot in the Europa League knockout phase 🀩. Their dramatic comeback against Red Bull Salzburg was a testament to their team spirit and coaching expertise. It's been an exciting group stage, with many unexpected twists and turns πŸ”„.

The qualification process has been more competitive than anticipated, but it's great to see teams like Nottingham Forest and Celtic punching above their weight πŸ‘. I do think the format of the Europa League needs some tweaking, as it can be quite unpredictable and sometimes leads to some rather disconcerting results 😳. Nonetheless, it's been an exhilarating ride so far!

just mindblown by Aston Villa's comeback 🀯! 2-1 against Red Bull Salzburg is a massive win and i'm so hyped for the team πŸ’ͺπŸ‘ they played like total rockstars, especially sean dyche was all over it πŸŽ‰ Villa's second place finish is insane and i'm loving every minute of this. Lyon's dominance didn't stop Villa from getting the job done, that's the beauty of europe league, anything can happen πŸ˜†. now lets see how they do in the knockout phase πŸ’₯

omg i cant believe aston villa made it 2nd place in europa league 🀯 they were so close 2 giving up but sean dyche's team came thru πŸ’ͺ and those goals against ferencvaros & celtic were insane 😲 4-0 & 4-2 are no joke! πŸŽ‰ i was on the edge of my seat when villa beat salzburg, the energy must've been electric at villa park πŸ’₯ what a comeback for sean dyche's team! πŸ™Œ

I don’t usually comment but... I'm so hyped for Aston Villa! 🀩 They've been through a wild ride in the Europa League and it's amazing to see them pull off that comeback win against Red Bull Salzburg. Finishing second is no joke, especially considering they were struggling earlier on.

I think what impresses me most about this team is their resilience. They couldn't catch a break for weeks, but Sean Dyche kept pushing them forward, making adjustments and getting the best out of his players. It's not just about the wins, it's about how they've managed to stay in the competition despite some tough losses.

And kudos to Celtic for crushing Utrecht like that! 4 goals in the first 20 minutes is insane 🀯. They're definitely a team to watch out for in the knockout phase.

As for Rangers, well... I don't know what's going on with them πŸ˜”. Six consecutive losses in European competition? That's just brutal. But hey, maybe they can turn it around and make a comeback in the next round.

I'm loving this comeback from Aston Villa! 🀩 They really showed the spirit of the team! The stats don't lie - 2 wins in a row and now they're ahead of Lyon πŸ˜…. I mean, 4-0 thrashing Ferencvaros is just insane πŸš€. And did you see that 3 goals in the first 20 minutes by Celtic? πŸ”₯ That's what we call a team on fire! πŸ’ͺ But sorry Rangers, can't say I'm surprised about your losses... 6 consecutive away defeats 😳. Not great for a top-tier club like yours. Anyway, looking forward to the knockout phase - should be some epic battles ahead! πŸ†πŸ’₯
