High school soccer standout ID’d as teen killed in sledding accident during rare winter storm in Texas

Teen Soccer Star Tragically Dies in Rare Texas Snowstorm Sled Accident

A promising high school soccer player has been identified as the 16-year-old girl who died after a freak sledding accident during a rare winter storm in Texas over the weekend. Elizabeth Angle, a rising star on her junior varsity team at Wakeland High School and member of the FC Dallas 2009G club team, succumbed to her injuries after slamming into a tree while sledding with friends.

The incident occurred just after Winter Storm Fern passed through Texas, leaving residents dealing with heavy snow and icy conditions. Angle's family members have revealed that she and one of her teammates hitched a sled to the back of a 16-year-old boy's Jeep for a high-speed go-around, which ended in tragedy. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Angle's mother described her daughter as "a bright light, a fun spirit, a brave soul" after her passing, and has since spoken out about the devastating consequences of the storm. Angle was a junior at Wakeland High School and had only recently acquired her driver's license, with plans to spend a snowy weekend with friends.

The sledding incident is not an isolated incident in Texas; according to medical experts, "this is ice that we have here," which can cause catastrophic injuries when kids hit their heads on it. At least 28 people lost their lives nationwide during Winter Storm Fern, most of the deaths still under investigation but some linked to hypothermia.

The Wakeland High School community has rallied around Angle's family and teammates, with a moment of silence planned for second period when school resumes to honor her memory. The school will also provide mental health support to grieving classmates and teachers throughout the day.

Angle's coach dedicated a heart-wrenching poem to his team, highlighting her strength and resilience in the face of adversity. "She knew what it meant to stand her ground. To take the hit. To protect what mattered," he wrote on Facebook. The incident has left the community shaken, with many taking to social media to pay tribute to Angle's memory and share their condolences.

man that's just so sad 🤕 another life cut short in an instant... i was out there sledding as a kid too, but never thought it could be this crazy 😱 texas is supposed to be all sunshine & warmth not snowstorms like that! it's gonna take a while for the community to get over this one... can't help but think about her future, what she would've accomplished 🤷‍♀️ rest in peace elizabeth 💔

🚨💔 I just can't even think about this right now it's like her whole life was ahead of her and now she's gone in an instant 🤯 Elizabeth was more than just a talented soccer player, she was also an amazing person with so much energy and spirit 💖. Her family and the Wakeland High School community are literally getting destroyed by this tragedy 😩.

I mean, we all know that sledding can be super fun, but it's also super reckless 🤪 especially in Texas where they don't exactly get snow very often ❄️. It's like, come on people! Be smart, stay safe, and maybe sled with a helmet or something? 😂

But seriously, this is a huge wake-up call for all of us parents, coaches, and educators 📚. We need to be more proactive about teaching our kids about winter sports safety, road safety, and just general life safety stuff 🤝.

And let's not forget the 28 people who lost their lives during Winter Storm Fern 💀... that's a whole different level of tragedy 😱. It's like, we're so used to having control over these kinds of situations in our daily lives, but Mother Nature is just like, "Nah, I'm gonna do my own thing and see what happens" ☁️.

Anyway, I just want to say that Elizabeth will be deeply missed by all of us who knew her 💔. She might not have had much time on this earth, but she left a lasting impact on the people around her ❤️.

omg i'm so sad to hear about elizabeth angle 🤕😢 she was so young and full of life it's just not fair that her life was cut short in such a tragic accident ❄️ice can be so deadly especially when kids are sledding or playing outside with their friends. the fact that winter storm fern brought this kind of destruction to texas is just devastating 😷 i hope angle's family and friends find some comfort in knowing they're not alone during this tough time ❤️ the outpouring of love and support from her community is truly beautiful 🌟

man this is so sad :( just 16 and already gone 😭 her mom sounds really strong though, i feel bad for the whole school community 🤕 it's crazy how ice can be so deadly sometimes 🌟 angle was like a bright light too, it's hard to believe she's gone 💔 hope the team can find some way to heal and move forward together ❤️

I'm soooo sad that this happened but I don't think it's fair that she died from a sledding accident... I mean, what were her parents thinking? 🤷‍♀️ It's not like they told her to be careful or anything, it's just an accident. But at the same time, I feel bad for her team and family because this is so young... 16 years old is basically a kid, you know? 😔

And I don't think it's fair that people are saying that sledding itself is to blame... I mean, most people have done that without getting hurt, right? 🤦‍♀️ It's just one stupid mistake that led to her death. But on the other hand, those ice rinks and roads in Texas were super treacherous, so yeah maybe she should've been more careful. Ugh, I don't know...

omg this is so sad 🤕... like 16 and already gone, and from a freak accident too, it's just not right... sledding in Texas? that's crazy 🎿❄️... I mean I get it, kids wanna have fun, but can't they be more careful tho? 😔... and the fact that there were like 28 deaths during the storm is just heartbreaking 💔... my heart goes out to Angle's family and friends, she sounded like an amazing person 🤗... mental health support for the school is a great idea, it's not just about honoring her memory but also looking after those who are hurting 😊... RIP Elizabeth 👋

😔 this is so sad, I cant even imagine loosing a sibling or friend like that... those kids were just having fun in the snow and its senseless 🤦‍♀️ 28 people died already and there could be more 💀 i feel bad for her family and friends who are going through such a tough time 🤗

🤕😱 I'm still in shock reading about Elizabeth, it feels like just yesterday she was out there killing it on the soccer field 🏆💨. I mean, who knew sledding with friends could be so deadly? It's crazy to think that a rare Texas snowstorm turned into a tragic accident 💔. The whole thing is just heartbreaking, especially for her family and friends who are still trying to come to terms with this loss 😢. As they say in the movie "Booksmart" , it's like, 'this is why we can't have nice things' 🤣. But seriously, my condolences go out to Elizabeth's loved ones, may she rest in peace ❤️. We're gonna miss seeing her shine on the field 💫.

🤕😢 This is just so heartbreaking! I mean, who needs a snowstorm in Texas, right? 🌨️ It's like Winter Storm Fern was just waiting for an accident like this to happen. The fact that Elizabeth was with friends and it seemed like a fun day out turned into tragedy is just devastating. My heart goes out to her family, especially her mom who's still trying to process this. 💔 As someone who loves sports, I'm still trying to wrap my head around the idea of a talented young athlete like Elizabeth being taken away from us so suddenly. It's a harsh reminder of how unpredictable life can be. 😕 The fact that this incident is not an isolated one and that we're seeing more and more cases of kids getting hurt or worse in snowy conditions just makes me want to stay inside and wait for spring, you know? 🌸 But at the same time, I'm so grateful for the outpouring of support from her community, Wakeland High School, and all the people who are paying tribute to Elizabeth's memory. 💖 She may be gone, but she'll never be forgotten. ❤️

🤕 can you imagine being 16 and still getting taken out by a snowbank? 🌨️ it's crazy how quickly things can go from fun to fatal. i mean, i get that texas winters are rare but come on, sleds aren't exactly designed for high-speed chases 😂. anyhoo, condolences to elizabeth's fam and friends - it's totally senseless when young lives are cut short like this 💔.

I'm so sad to hear about Elizabeth 🤕 she was like 16 and had her whole life ahead of her... sledding accidents can be super deadly, especially when the ice is all thin and weak... it's crazy how that Winter Storm Fern affected Texas, all those people lost their lives 💔 at least now we're talking about raising awareness for safety precautions on the slopes 🏂💨

I'm so sad to hear about this young girl Elizabeth Angle 🤕💔 she was just 16 years old and had her whole life ahead of her. It's absolutely devastating that something like sledding with friends could turn into a tragedy 😱 it's all too common for kids in the US to get hurt from icy conditions during these winter storms.

And you know what really gets me? The fact that this incident is being taken so seriously by medical experts who are saying "this is ice we have here" 🚨 it's time for us to take action and make sure our kids are safe, especially when it comes to extreme weather conditions.

My heart goes out to Elizabeth's family, friends, and the Wakeland High School community 💕 they're going through an incredibly tough time right now. But even in the midst of all this sadness, I'm seeing so much love and support for this young girl who lived life with such strength and spirit 🌟

omg, you guys, this is so not a coincidence! first of all, it was snowing in texas, which is like, never happens, right? and now this talented teen dies from a sledding accident? i mean, what are the odds? 🤔 i'm not saying it's the storm's fault or anything, but seriously, how many kids have to die before people take notice?! 😕 and then you gotta see that she was sledgin' with friends and hitchin' a ride in a jeep... that's just reckless behavior if you ask me. 🚗💨 and now the school is all like "oh, let's do a moment of silence" but what about the underlying issues here? like, why are kids sledding in the first place?! ❄️ is there something more going on beneath the surface? i'm not sayin' it's a conspiracy or anything, but... 🤷‍♀️

ugh this is just great another kid dies doing something stupid and now the whole school is traumatized lol the parents are all like "she was such a bright light" yeah sure she was a promisng soccer player but not smart enough to sled with her friends in a jeep what's next gonna be a bunch of kids dying because they can't even handle a lil snow in texas?
