Indonesia's new capital, Nusantara, in danger of becoming a 'ghost city'

OMG 🀯 i'm literally dying over here thinking about this new capital Nusantara πŸ€” its like they were so hyped up on building a utopian vision for Indonesia 🌟 but now its just a bunch of empty roads and buildings πŸ˜’ the funding is gone and private investment too 😩 what was joko widodo thinking lol πŸ˜‚ its like they wanted to create this ghost city in the middle of nowhere πŸ•·οΈ and now locals are suffering because of it πŸ€• construction workers are getting less overtime and lower pay, fishers can't navigate through traffic, and indigenous people are facing environmental disasters πŸŒͺ️ like what were they thinking?! 😲 its so sad that nusantara is starting to feel like a tourist destination instead of a real city for the people πŸ™οΈ

πŸ€” I'm totally bummed out by the state of Nusantara, Indonesia's new capital... It's like they took all these fancy designs and green intentions, but forgot about the people who actually live there πŸŒ³πŸ’š. I mean, three years in and it's basically just a ghost town with empty boulevards and not enough funding πŸ’ΈπŸ“‰. And on top of that, we got reports of mangrove forest clearances, construction workers struggling to make ends meet, and Indigenous communities still dealing with flooding issues... 😞 Not exactly the utopian vision I was sold on 🌴.

What's even more puzzling is why they downgraded Nusantara from a "political capital" to just a regular city πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. It feels like the project's momentum is gone, and instead of pushing forward with sustainability goals, it's being kept under wraps 🀐. Like, what's the plan now? Are we gonna stick with this half-baked concept or go back to the drawing board? πŸ“

I get that Indonesia has some serious economic and infrastructure challenges to tackle, but can't they at least try to make Nusantara work for its own people first? 😊 It feels like a missed opportunity to show off what sustainable living could look like in practice. For now, it's just this beautiful, yet empty space that everyone seems to be whispering about 🀫.

πŸ€” I'm not surprised at all, stats show that Indonesia's population density is one of the lowest in Southeast Asia πŸ“Š (only 143 ppl/kmΒ²). It's crazy how a project like Nusantara can be touted as utopian when the land itself is so vast and sparsely populated 🌳. Did you know that Indonesia has over 17,000 islands? 🌴 We're talking about an entire country with more than twice the number of islands as the US! πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

And have you seen these numbers on construction worker overtime hours? πŸ“ˆ 60% of them work more than 10 hours/day πŸ•’ (compared to the global average of 8.5 hours). That's a lot of time spent building infrastructure, yet we still see this "ghost city" struggling with funding and private investment πŸ’Έ.

What's even more concerning is the environmental impact 😷. With over 2,000 hectares of mangrove forest cleared in just two years, it's no wonder experts are warning of ecological disaster 🌴. Not to mention the Indigenous Balik people who have been displaced by construction projects πŸ‘₯.

I'm not a fan of Singapore comparisons either πŸ˜’. Did you know that Singapore has a population density of over 8,000 ppl/kmΒ²? That's more than 56 times higher than Nusantara! 🀯

I'm a bit worried about Nusantara, you know? I mean, I get why they wanted to build something new and futuristic, but it just doesn't feel right when you see all these people struggling because of it πŸ€”. Like, what's the point of having a city if nobody's living there or working there? It's supposed to be this utopian vision, but so far, it's just a bunch of empty buildings and roads πŸš—.

And I'm not even going to get started on the environment 🌳. 2,000 hectares of mangrove forest cleared in two years? That's insane! I've seen videos of those forests being destroyed, and it's heartbreaking πŸ’”. And the Indigenous Balik people who are living near Sepaku River... they deserve so much better than to have their water supply ruined and flooding made worse by a dam πŸŒͺ️.

I guess what really gets me is that all this money and effort were put into building something that might not even work out πŸ€‘. And now, it's just sitting here, empty and quiet, with nobody knowing if it'll ever come alive πŸ’₯. I just hope they can get their act together and make Nusantara a city that benefits everyone, not just a bunch of empty showrooms 🏒

OMG u guys I'm low-key worried about Nusantara 😩🌴 like how did a utopian vision turn into a total ghost town 🀯? Β£2bn to Β£700m is wild!!! πŸ€‘ and environmental groups r all over it, like what's going on with that mangrove forest?! 🌿😩 I feel for those locals, construction workers & fishers who are getting robbed of overtime & livelihoods πŸš¨πŸ’Έ And the Indigenous Balik people, it's like promises were made but never kept πŸ’”πŸŒŠ Sepaku River dam? That's not cool at all πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ

I guess Prabowo Subianto just shifted his focus, huh? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ Not sure if Nusantara will ever be more than a tourist spot, like a shiny oasis in the jungle πŸŒ΄πŸ’Ž but idk man... πŸ˜”

πŸ€” Nusantara is a bit like a super cool Instagram photo shoot – all shiny and new, but nobody's really there πŸ“Έ. All that funding & planning gone to waste? Unbelievable. It's like they thought building a ghost town was a good idea 🏠.
