Quentin Tarantino recently ignited a firestorm when he disparaged Paul Dano, casting him as "a big, giant flaw" in the film "There Will Be Blood." However, Dano's co-star Damian Lillard took exception to Tarantino's jab at his own acting abilities.
Speaking candidly on Bret Easton Ellis' podcast, Lillard made it clear that he was not a fan of Tarantino's remarks, describing them as an attack on someone else who might be more vulnerable. "It hurts your feelings, it f**king sucks," Lillard said to the audience, sparking boos and murmurs.
Tarantino claimed that Dano doesn't possess any unique qualities that set him apart from other actors in his class, which includes Owen Wilson and himself. The director even suggested that someone like Austin Butler would have been a better fit for the role.
Lillard disputed Tarantino's assertion, stating that he wouldn't dare insult an established Hollywood star like Tom Cruise. "He wouldn’t say that to Tom Cruise. He wouldn’t say that to somebody who’s a top-line actor in Hollywood," Lillard said.
Simu Liu and Alec Baldwin have since rallied around Dano, praising his talents on social media platforms. Despite Tarantino's comments sparking controversy, it appears that many in the industry are standing by Dano, recognizing his impressive acting abilities.
