Lottery for Independence Blue Cross Broad Street Run runs Feb. 1-13

Philadelphia to Experience Mass Participation as 47th Annual Broad Street Run Approaches

Registration for one of the largest road races in the country is set to open on February 1st at midnight and will close on February 13th at 11:59pm. The event, which marks its 47th year, promises to attract over 40,000 runners, with a sellout expected once again.

Runners can secure their spot through a lottery system or by running on behalf of one of the many charity partners, including the American Cancer Society and Students Run Philly Style. A registration fee of $65 will apply, after which participants will be notified via email in early March.

The 10-mile course, which starts at Broad Street and Somerville Avenue, will conclude at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. Spectators are encouraged to line the route, with a family-friendly activity area set to feature at the finish line. Medical staff and police will also be present along the course to ensure participants' safety.

Notably, this year's event falls during Mental Health Awareness Month and coincides with the city's 250th anniversary celebrations. The Broad Street Run has come a long way since its inception in 1980, which saw just 1,500 runners take part. Last year, nearly 33,000 people crossed the finish line.

The date for this year's event is set for May 3rd at 7am, with officials anticipating another sold-out crowd.

omg what a huge race πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ‘€ so many runners gonna be there that's crazy! do u think its hard to get in cuz they have a lottery system and stuff? i wish i could run but im too out of shape lol. charity partners tho that's really cool, 65 bucks is kinda pricey tho. did u know its part of mental health awareness month? thats so important πŸ’•. gonna be a lot of spectators though, like how do they plan to keep everyone safe? and omg may 3rd is almost like spring break already πŸ˜…

I'm curious to see how people feel about registering for a lottery or running for charity πŸ€”... Some folks might be stoked to get in on the action and crush that 10-mile course, while others might find it kinda annoying that spots are limited πŸ’Έ... Others still might just think its awesome for the city to do this event every year and bring in some tourism $$... What about you? Would you want to register for the Broad Street Run, or do a charity run instead πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ’•

Ugh, I'm so over how they're selling out this thing every year 🀯. I mean, who needs that much pressure to register? Can't we just make it more accessible for everyone? I know the lottery system is in place, but it's still super competitive and only benefits those with a strong network. What about the regular folks trying to get in on the action?

And don't even get me started on the $65 registration fee πŸ€‘. That's outrageous! It's already crazy expensive just to participate, let alone for charity events. I'm sure the American Cancer Society and Students Run Philly Style are awesome orgs and all, but can't we find a way to make it more inclusive? Maybe offer some discounts or scholarships for underprivileged groups?

Anyway, I guess it's good that they're raising awareness about mental health 🀝. It's still crazy that this event has become such a huge deal. And yay for the Philly Navy Yard finish line party! But can we please just make sure everyone gets to cross that finish line, no matter their skill level or financial situation? πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

I'm kinda hyped about the Broad Street Run but also a bit worried lol πŸ€”πŸ’¨. I mean, 40k runners is a lot and I hope they're prepared for the crowds and safety concerns. The lottery system can be pretty competitive, so I wish them luck to those trying to get in 🀞. On a more positive note, it's awesome that the event supports charity partners and brings awareness to mental health πŸ’–. And 250 years of Philly celebrations? That's something to look forward to! πŸŽ‰ May 3rd is gonna be lit! πŸ”₯ Let's see how they handle the sellout this year... 😊

the broad street run sounds like a big deal πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ! i'm all for charity runs and supporting good causes, but $65 seems kinda steep to me πŸ’Έ. maybe they're gonna have more charity partners this year tho? also, 40k runners is insane 😩 how do they manage the logistics and safety? and oh yeah, mental health awareness month is a great idea 🌈. the navy yard finish line sounds like a cool spot too πŸ›οΈ. anyways, i'm sure it'll be a blast for those who can make it, fingers crossed for the lottery winners! 😊

omg can't believe how fast broad street run has grown from a tiny event to one of the biggest in the country 🀯 it's amazing to see how far they've come since those early days but now its like the whole city is coming together for this massive 10-mile run πŸ’¨ and i love that they're incorporating mental health awareness into the event, it's so important for runners to prioritize their mental wellbeing especially when training for a big event πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

I'm so hyped for the Broad Street Run! I mean, can you believe it's been going on for 47 years? It's insane how far they've come from those early days with just 1,500 runners lol 🀯. And now, over 40k people are gonna hit that course? That's crazy! I'm all about supporting charity events too, so the fact that you can run for a good cause is a major plus. May 3rd is like, still super far away, but it's already feeling like an event πŸŽ‰. The Navy Yard finish line looks lit btw...

πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ u guys think they gonna solve mental health issues by hosting a fun run lol i get it its cool to have a charity event but do we really think a 10mile run is gonna make a huge difference? πŸ€” also what about the actual participants, are they prepared for this kinda event? i saw some of the training vids and some people were already struggling πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ btw when did they decide to hold it during mental health awareness month tho? was that just a coincidence or was there actually some thought put into it πŸ’
