Philadelphia to Experience Mass Participation as 47th Annual Broad Street Run Approaches
Registration for one of the largest road races in the country is set to open on February 1st at midnight and will close on February 13th at 11:59pm. The event, which marks its 47th year, promises to attract over 40,000 runners, with a sellout expected once again.
Runners can secure their spot through a lottery system or by running on behalf of one of the many charity partners, including the American Cancer Society and Students Run Philly Style. A registration fee of $65 will apply, after which participants will be notified via email in early March.
The 10-mile course, which starts at Broad Street and Somerville Avenue, will conclude at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. Spectators are encouraged to line the route, with a family-friendly activity area set to feature at the finish line. Medical staff and police will also be present along the course to ensure participants' safety.
Notably, this year's event falls during Mental Health Awareness Month and coincides with the city's 250th anniversary celebrations. The Broad Street Run has come a long way since its inception in 1980, which saw just 1,500 runners take part. Last year, nearly 33,000 people crossed the finish line.
The date for this year's event is set for May 3rd at 7am, with officials anticipating another sold-out crowd.
