Oakland rolls out speed cameras at 18 locations across city; 60-day warning period underway

OMG u guys!!! ๐Ÿคฏ I'm literally shaking with rage and frustration thinking about those poor souls who are going to get fined for speeding in Oakland ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’จ. It's not just about the money, it's about lives lost because of reckless driving ๐Ÿ’”. Mayor Barbara Lee is right on point when she says traffic safety is public safety ๐Ÿ™Œ.

I mean what even is the deal with the warning period?! ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ 60 days is basically a lifetime in today's world where we're all glued to our screens ๐Ÿ“ฑ. I hope people aren't going to be stuck with that ticket for months on end, just waiting for it to expire ๐Ÿ’ธ.

And can we talk about how convenient this system is?! ๐Ÿคฏ No surveillance means no creepy Big Brother vibes ๐Ÿ‘€. Plus, the reduced fines for low-income residents are a major win in my book ๐Ÿ™Œ. I'm all about making sure that everyone has access to resources, not just those who are already struggling.

I wish Josh Rowan was on TV talking about this because he sounds like a total hero ๐Ÿ™. "Speeding is a choice"?! Girl, tell it to me again ๐Ÿคฃ! It's not that easy, you know what I mean? We need to make driving safer for everyone, not just the ones who can afford to get tickets ๐Ÿ’ธ.

Anyway, I'm off to rant some more about this and hope you guys are as passionate as I am about road safety ๐Ÿ˜ฉ.

I think this automated speed safety camera program in Oakland is like, super necessary ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ’จ. I mean, traffic violence has been on the rise and it's heartbreaking to hear about families losing loved ones due to speeding. The idea that drivers will receive only warnings during the 60-day warning period is a good start, but we need to make sure these cameras are implemented in a way that doesn't disproportionately affect low-income residents ๐Ÿค”.

I'm also curious to see how the data collected from the cameras will be used and shared โ€“ it's great to hear that it'll be confidential, but what about transparency? We should know more about the effectiveness of this program and whether it's really saving lives ๐Ÿ’ก. One thing I do like is that low-income residents won't face harsher fines ๐Ÿ™.

It's also interesting to see how Mayor Barbara Lee frames traffic safety as a top priority โ€“ I think we can all agree on that ๐Ÿ˜Š. But what about the role of law enforcement? Should they be involved in issuing citations or will it solely be the DOT? I'm not sure, but I trust Oakland is doing its due diligence ๐Ÿ™
